We have done 583kms in the last two days on the trusty NX, cant keep a good Honda downFirstly some photos with text then high lights and low points
I promised Sal a river cruise but she wanted one of those boats, never happy are they

We fueled at Wisemans, not knowing that 23.3hrs later we would be back there fueling again

We would have stayed dry but I took a wrong turn from memory and we spent 10 mins back tracking and got wet, was nice arriving at the D’s to have the auto roller door come up and the valet park our bike, our wet clothes taken and and dried and shown to our room, the oriental suite

Whilst I was in the auto area as they call it at club D I noted Dan’s private test bikes that he practices on

We then moved the bar area

It was here we witnessed the Valet/ cook/ cleaner or as he is really known Kylie’s Biatch start the cooking but he had to be replaced and he didnt like it

So Kylie had to do the job herself, cant trust a lackey Kyles
He was then asked to light the fire, but he has been to the Moto school of fire lighting as you can see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeXGYjV4p7o
Kylie then went out to the shed and held court

Who is the man in this house hold I ask you?

Eagle looks on as he wife was out the shed also

Champo and Tracy awaited dinner as you do

So Kylie after flogging Dan with a phone book finished dinner herself, what a host

Eagle bolted before he copped a flogging, but I think Mrs Eagle had taken notes when in the shed with Kylie

We just stared at the bikes and thought about tomorrow

Dan was issued final instructions, god how many times did we have to repeat ourselves
The next morning we headed out to Freemans to fuel and listen to Gav B’s story which I will let someone else tell
But first we had to wait for Kylie’s biatch to finish his work

We assembled at Freemans

Tryhard (Joe) won the award for the dirtiest bike to turn up, sorry no prize just the shame of it

Worst tyre to turn out for the ride Tryhard (Joe) sorry no prize just the shame of it again

I also noticed a stalker taking pictures of me taking pictures

We left and rode out through the watagans till we got to the start of the St Alburns rd, we stopped for a break and oven baked goodies, Kylie’s Mars bar slice

I then had the lead and side tracked the tour for a little trailboss tracking, we went of road down a sandy 4×4 track that saw at least one of our pilots hit the deck on to an old convit bridge ruins

That stalker was still around

Kylie wanted to get up on the structure so she called her Sherpa

Princess D then held court

And the plebes stay on the ground

Champo doing more blue steel
Left and right

We continued to Wismans Pub, Kylie had arranged it so we could watch a downhill / cross country mountain bike race and the bridge to bridge, we parked at the pub
SKY CAM VIEW

SKY CAM VIEW Zoomed

We, Salina and I had the best day / weekend
Thanks to Kylie for the accommodation and feed, you do amazing work with very little help, if any thanks (ha ha Dan)
No really you guys are the hosts with the most

Highlights in no particular order
Being welcomed to the D’s
Getting our wet clothes dried
Mrs Eagle`s Damper Dip
Dinner / BBQ
Hanging with the Eagles (all of them)
Kylie’s baked goodies
Laughs all night
Hassling Dan
Watching Dan light the fire
Getting up in the morning and finding all the visiting riders bikes turned around and ready to go
The rain Dan had organised had settled the dust, but he only did half a job as by the pines it was dusty

Using the blue tooth communication devices with Sal all weekend was awesome
Great lunch at Wisemans
Great Company
Turning Dan’s bike of and him trying again and missing twice
Turning fuel taps off (champo started it orange)
There is so much more but it wasnt my ride, cheers guys
Great work guys, lets do it again

This is it for me
your first question needs more information for an answer
Ideas.
1. As proposed, ask for voluntary donations but check, no, double check, the legal ramifications of a registered club asking the members for donations to keep the club going.
We are a regisitered not for profit organtion, we spent the money doing this Al it is all legal
TB
Thanks Al
last post was sent before this one but I stand behind evrything I saidIdeas.
1. As proposed, ask for voluntary donations but check, no, double check, the legal ramifications of a registered club asking the members for donations to keep the club going.
We have Al
Look at the social ramifications of some members donating and some not. Maybe causing divisions?2. When they need money to keep going cricket, football and many other clubs run the famous Aussie Chuck Raffle at the local pub. Have you looked at running raffles on OBT? Maybe start a thread asking how many would like to participate in regular raffles and work it out from there. Something like a Michelin X11 trials tyre would be a desirable thing to win
. Don’t know how you would run a raffle electronically though.Well its not really a fix then is it, it could be tampered with, we already had one competition questioned and we had a non admin pick the winner
3. Pick a start day and have a yearly fee for everyone, no exceptions. Pay one year in advance. A low fee or one a bit higher including a tee shirt. You would lose members but those you would lose would not contribute anyway so no loss. Once again you could canvass members via a thread to see what they think. So if they dont pay they are out?
Actually, just thought of something. Instead of a voluntary “donation” how about a voluntary “fee”. Something along the lines of “the yearly fee for participating in OBT is $30. This fee is purely voluntary but will help in the upkeep and financing of this website which is run on a no-profit bases by volunteers”. I said basically that in the very first post
4. Threaten to send Menace around to anyone who won’t cough up some money. Worked for the Mafia!
Just some “off the top of the head” ideas. Gotta be some smarter that me people on here. So lets see some more ideas.

Quote:With regards to donating. It seems simple dosn’t it. But here is something that happened about 2-3 years ago.A DBW Christmas weekend ride was organised in the Watagans on the Saturday and Sugarloaf on the Sunday.
The Sunday ride was organised by Mudrat (Glen).
He thought it would be a good idea to collect money at the Sunday ride to benefit the Westpac Helicopter, something we might all need someday. So he went to the Westpac base (or rang them, cannot remember which) and told them of his idea to hold a raffle at the ride. That’s when the bullshit started. To cut a long story short the crap he had to go through just to run a raffle and donate money to the Westpack Helicopter was so bad he gave it away.
We had the ride, no raffle, and the Westpac Helicopter got nothing.
Now this might have nothing to do with asking for donations for the web site but things arn’t as simple as they seem. They never are.

Nice story Al, sorry but here it comes firstly no offence as I want to go on the ride you are planning and am not planning to upset you directly or anybody else
Its a couple of bucks, stop with the glass is half empty, it is half FULL!!!!
Its started easy, it has been easy until you started with this might be a problem, and that may not work and this may not be simple. If I did that 11 months ago we wouldnt be having this cluster f@#& would we? I / we listen and we learn and we f#$&ing try our guts out, and if you have a problem come to the table, but bring an idea to fix it.
If its a problem we will deal with it when we get to it, or we will listen and learn
I will send the donations back and throw my hands in the air, and someone else can give it a try, I have had to give up my believe in karma a week ago because some low life who isn’t happy with what I do kept taking it, if they didnt seem happy with what I do, so why stay on the site, I just wanted to give something to the sport I love, I wanted to make a difference so it will be here for my boys I wanted others to see the tracks and experience what I have
Give me solutions not just picking at what I do
Those going on the wisemans ride I will see you tomorrow
This is not the opinion of all the OBT Admin team its mine, I am sicking of ringing to ask what they think!
TB
Honda XR600, won more Safaris then any other model respect it for what it is you heathens
TB
The green lights are gone, donate if you wish again there is no pressure (never was) and only I will know, still PM me regarding your donation and you will still receive a seal saver if your quick enough and over the threshold, but tell people you bought it or to mind their own bees wax
Am doing the best we can

Quote:This is a good site and good resourse for rides. On the two rides I have participated in the people have been tops and the help given appreciated.(Even though they took me down bloody Hitchcocks:woohoo::laugh:)I don’t mind chipping in with a few dollars soon as I work out how to transfer the money! But…………………

One concern I have with something like this is the chance of an “us and them” syndrome building up over time. Some might want to stay on the site and participate in the rides but don’t want to give money. So what the answer then How will you treat them. I dont see a problem, should we then have a special section, maybe a tee shirt oh cant do that either, so whats the answer
After all it is voluntary and is their choice to give or not to give. thats right thats how we are treating it arent we?

You are already singling them out by marking the donars posts with green dots. The words “tight arses” have already been mentioned. So what should we do with that person for having an opinion
I understand the need for donations and nobody should be losing money for keeping a good site like this going but be careful just how you handle it. So the better idea is what, we are trying, but give us s better idea
You have a good tight knit dirt bike community on here at the moment, don’t do something that will divide it.Maybe a yearly fee for all might be a good idea. Or even a “Club Mud” idea where the fee payers get extra rights on the site might be the go. DBW has problem in this area already and we arent them Then you either pay for the extra rights or you don’t. what extras to you recommend Al?
I fully realise that the more you get into this the more complicated it gets for the administrators on the site. The simplest way is just to stick with the donations. Just in my opinion there are dangers lurking that you need to be aware of.old al
Ideas then?

Quote:I agree with the thrust of this thread and if donations are needed then I am in. But let me act as the “devils advocate” for a moment. OKThis is cut and pasted for the original post by Trailboss.
“If you wish to PM me and let me know its done and through or you can remain nameless, it doesn’t matter no one will know besides us Yes thats still true
We will in the future have a paypal tab on the site that you can make paypal donations at any time but for now we will do it by bank transfer
All donations will be remain private” and they still are
I already know who has donated by the green dots so I take it that you can say “no green dots for me I want to remain nameless”. Has anyone done that yet? Yes 3 members
I know that those thanking for the seal savers have donated more than $50. So when on a ride and walking around the trailers whilst suiting, how will you know if they purchased them or received them for donating them, we have sold and given away plenty before now haven’t we Ollie?
Another thing reared it’s head as I was thinking about the site.

What are the legal ramifications of asking for donations to run a web site? Have you looked into it? Do you have to provide a reciept for the monies? Do you have to provide a balance sheet at regualar intervals? Yes we as a registered club with the tax dept have all sorts of legal stuff to do bass statements included are you offering to helpAs your site grows so will the percentage of discontents and whingers grow.(I am not either by the way:P) That is the way of things. Small seads don’t necessarily grow healthy trees. The saplings have to be nursed and tended to produce the best plant.
These are just some thoughts of mine to throw into the ring for discussion. This is a top site and is, by your own admission, growing rapidly.
Be double sure you are on the right track with what you do. I wish only the best for the site.

Whats the best way to do it then Al?
