I just said that with the heat a current a 4 stroke produces I think (I know)a better quality oil would with stand temperatures better, an better quality would mean more costly! Here is the piece I wrote

I use Motul 5100 10w50 and change it around 500kms or after a big weekend with Chicken it maybe 1000kms, its quality oil and can do the 1000 kms standing on its head. Temperature is the big killer for oil breakdown.

Have a nice day

Cheers Mal, if sunny corner is the weekend of the 20th it wont be that weekend then , great input mate. Also cheers for the offer of a hand thats great from someone that hasn’t even been to one of our rides, champion

OK just spoken with Tom from Louee
In September we have a choice of three weekends but have to decide soon
So for the next week lets think about these dates and post your thoughts / preferences
September
Fri 11th, Sat 12th and Sun 13th
Fri 18th, Sat 19th and Sun 20th WILL NOT BE THIS WEEKEND
Fri 25th, Sat 26th and Sun 27th
Again if someone would like to help in the organisation of this event or take over from me it would be appreciated as I have a far bit on my plate that time of the year

Quote:I agree with Tb 100 hrs of top line thrashing out of a top end is way impressive, lately I’ve been rethinking this whole air filtration aspect, years ago we had essentially sealed airboxes that where restrictive and hard to get at, but abd a big butt too, we hardly ever had any dusting issues. We used to open the airboxes up on the sides to allow better flow (ala RM125s with 2 ” holesaw holes in sidecovers at every meet)and still didn’t have too many problems.
Now many airboxes intake from right where the dust is thick and while this is great for flow and H/power does make life hard for the poor old filter. Maybe a snorkle system like some roadies have may be better, as I have lost count of how many rides I have been on where a 4T starts nor start on the starter as the valves start to recess, usually these blokes are riding mid-pack and the filter has allowed some fine fine grit through and Voilia instant top-end job.what I am trying to say is there must be a better system out there.
Bruce
Yeah Bruce, if you have spent sometime around the top line guys and see what the bikes and engines go through you would realise that 100hrs racing from any engine is real good, if you let go of the brand issues you would agree, also no one past comment regarding the Yamaha team swapping cylinder heads after 400 odd kms of racing at the condo 750
Yes I believe air boxes are an issue, since I modified mine I hardly get an dust in the filter.

No its at the Waratah sports club

Which begs the question”why dont more bike run external Oil coolers”
Ollie
Are you saying that would be a good thing or are you disagreeing about heat affecting oil?
I would only be guessing Ollie, but I would cost would be a consideration and who is going the be the first manufacturer to put an oil cooler on there current 450 so people can say they have a heating problem. Why does a DRZ650 have a big oil cooler hanging of the side of it? See the manufacturers recommend quality oil so the heat is not such a problem.
I will see if I can get Fathead to explain a little about the heat and HP that a current 4 stroke experiences when they get hot.

This is Gold, Mr Blue you are the man, I cant add a thing to what you have said it is gold mate, gold and so true
