all stuff that should not happen but most was fixed under warranty i am not a good enough rider to ride a xr650 through tight scrub fast have tryed and failed to BIG for me.i have spent 50 on front sprocket seal and spacer 20 on shims steering head dearings ?back wheel bearings20 but will need to spend heaps more soon also money on tyres only problem with this bike is its to fun to ride and never wont to go home.

Yeah that’s good mate that they looked after it and you, look I am sure its a great bike to ride and that fact that it always gets you home is very important and they are fast! But when out of warranty I would hope its sorted or could become costly.

I cant ride fast in the tight stuff.

Do the 4 day mate, will help where I can, I did over 500cc four stroke, to many and to many fast guys in over 35 trust me, over 500cc four stroke is the go.

Will PM ypu my phone number give me a ring whenever and we can chat about the 4 day and leave bikes out of it!

The 530 engine only holds 600ml of oil in the crankcase. You only have to drop the bike and you loose a bit out the breather each time and next thing you know you only have 200ml or so in the case. Not good on a high revving RACE BIKE.
He would need to check the oil at least and if he has an after market sump guard on it, you have to all but remove it to see the sight glass. So at that stage he might as well drop the oil when he is at it.

And they are a good thing, 600ml in 530cc engine, they are thinking of the customer there for sure

Good thing you typed that TB, it would be hard to say all that with your tongue in your cheek.
You gotta remember too, TB They are Quote, “Race Bikes” end quote.

Wasnt tongue in cheek Mick, its been trail ridden not raced

But as I said before, if thats ok by the guys that own them great I have no problem if they are happy

the work times on bikes worrys me a bit i am not a very fast machanic just poke along at home doing oil changes air filter changes etc have to pull bash plate of to change oil.my ktm530 is not pably the bike of choice for orange but fun to ride good for dubbo but

Work times shouldn’t a problem if you practice, you will have to do a tyre at Orange I reckon as its rocky rocky rocky it places, tyre change again isn’t a problem with practice. Cant the bike do the whole four days without a oil change? Its only 600 odd kays, you are not B Grabham are you? Mine didn’t get an oil change during the 4 day, you would do it at 500km normally wouldn’t you, whats a extra 150 really?
Bike of choice, don’t listen to all the wankers that say its to big, to heavy, when I did the 4 day on my 650 most of the wankers that said those things had never done it, are slower than me on their lighter bikes, do it do it.

Will answer some more of your questions soon white rocket

done the valves bit of a drama untill told to cut 5mm of tank mount bracket and use 5mm longer bolt when puting it back together had the crank seal leak transfering oil got it back from ktm and the oil pump seal went trasfered oil other way than cam chain tensioner got rattly ktm replaced it but the new one is stuffed now i think from the rattles pulled it out the other day and freed it up rattles stopped went for a ride rattle come back. time for a top end rebuild starting to use oil. also repleced front spocket seal and bush

This is a good thing is it? Let me read it again, so thats good is it? You guys are happy with that thats good then.

Oh by the way my XR650 has done 3 + years of solid trail riding, racing including 4 days, hi speed hi revving long events, stuff knows how many hrs of trail racing, long rides (1000km weekend jobs, 11 hrs a day in the seat things, and my list of repairs are besides oil changes and air filters is

    Nothing!

I pulled the engine out because I over-tightened the sump plug and cracked it, had it welded cost $60

I would think its done over a thousand hrs, easy, and before Moto craps on about the sump plug anyone that is grown up knows that’s not the bikes fault

Good things those KTM’s, but really if you guys are happy that’s all that matters and I am happy

Ps Curlyman.check the footpeg mounts on your bike..sometimes they have a touch of weld or slag to upset the mating surfaces, file/grind them flat..or you could experience the snapped footpeg syndrome..snapped peg/ swollen knee and ankle..if not broken. it seems to be a bugbear of Husky TE 610’s for a few years???

Tiny keeps breaking foot pegs, wonder if this could have anything to do with why.

    Chris

Tiny has never broken a foot peg Chris, the bolts break because of the poor design and Tiny’s, well, not Tiny!
