Yeah sorry mate I misunderstood your response then  I would be happy if I could do it on the Mac as it was my plan so the Mac would be my Old Bull / mapping / movie puter you know. I loaded the software there first. I thought with the growing Mac usage there would have been a demand I mean everybody seems to have one now. I wish they could do something on ipads as I love my mini and could travel with the thing would be handy.
How is the Dakota going?

With shonky you must manually copy the bin file to the SD card. It should be in a specific folder name. When I get home tonight I can type out the instructions. I can also load the file up on my Dropbox account if you don’t have the right SD card file as I believe it is different to the one that goes on the computer for base camp. Been awhile but I just done it with my Dakota and have recently rebuilt my basecamp setup with the new iMac. Easy peasy.
It won’t matter as I have just sent him the latest Garmin Topo v5 for his GPS
When you get you Mac sorted Krusty let me know and I will bring me laptop over and show you detail and top line mapping software that I have been given its a unavailable program at this stage. I was given it because of all the navigation stuff I am doing, its mind blowing. I have it on my Mac but again it doesn’t have the detail, the suppliers tell me the demand isn’t there from Mac users so it isn’t as updated

cheers mate… I don’t have a need for anything more than Basecamp.. the response from said supplier is typical.. Mac is too hard no demand blah blah blah.. they are just lazy and do not want to commit resources that cost them money.. I wish people would just tell the truth instead of some bullshit for fear of offending.. sorry rant over…
cheers…
Ok be that as it may Krusty it doesn’t make for a better mouse trap when mapping does it  :pinch:
If they say they don’t do the software because there isn’t the demand and you say that’s not true then why is it then? If there is the demand like I read your saying? Wouldn’t they stand to make a quid?

Cherokee71 wrote:Gday guys and girls, Im hoping somebody may be able to help me out.. I have just bought a Garmin 62s from Dick Smiths (the $299 price was too good to resist) and I use Mac computers. I dont really have access to a PC.I registered the Garmin 62s online and downloaded the Garmin software (Basecamp, MapManager and MapInstall).
I also downloaded ShonkyMaps full topo (the .gmapi for mac versions). BTW ShonkyMaps works fine in basecamp on my computer.
I bought a Sandisk 4gb microSD and formatted it to Fat32.
I have plugged the 62s into my mac desktop computer and it recognizes the 62s and the SD card. But when I try to load ShonkyMaps into the 62s I continually get an error that says something like “There was a problem while installing maps on your device. Ensure that the device is plugged in and turned on, and try again.”
Of course I have disconnected the GPS countless times and made sure it was on, I re-formatted the sd card to no avail, I even tried to install the maps without the sd card in the gps.. No dice.
Any ideas?
Cheers

I got your PM mate, I reckon its the apple connection. I am sure one of the geeks will correct me but as I have stated here before Apple doesnt seem the go working with the GPSs. All the programs I have I have tried on my Mac and ALWAYS end up back on a PC or laptop because the software works better and I do a lot of mapping and GPS stuff
Just my opinion
