So with my work finished in Coffs on Tuesday arvo and having handed the King his arse on his own mountain bike tracks, wheel stood past him and yes crashed on the widow maker Coffs was done for me :P (I did go back and kick the widow makers arse as well and in 2nd gear just to clear my head) I trucked north up to the Kings to pick up my Tenere and Moose. My babies locked together, was glad there had been no fighting

I left instructions with the king on how to wash the XR before I returned on Friday night which he didn’t do

Ok to balance the thread here are some pics of the Kings mountain bike, it’s not bad nearly clean

Moose had ridden up from Wauchope and we loaded his DR with my Tenere and headed further north towards Nicks, we needed to stop and get some refreshments and fuel the bikes.
Once at Nicks we unloaded the bikes and checked everything was packed, drank and welcomed Lotsa and Mickp.
Nick had cooked an awesome curry and we eat like it was our last feed  straight back to the man cave and more piss drank and final checks completed.

Ride report for the Tenere ride will be completed soon and a link added here

So when we got back the long trip home started, Kieran my youngest has started playing tennis comp and won his 2nd comp day he was very excited so I promised him I would be at number 3 which was the next afternoon  . Plan was to drive to the Kings and get the XR and travel to the Mayors. The kicker to the plan was to arrive late enough not to get tangled up in the shed party cause they seem to bring me undone  I made record time from the Kings to Macksville where I was to meet Corey and pick up his shock to go to Tekniks. Poor Corey was there waiting and I think wanted a chat but I was on a mission so I grabbed the shock had a leak and launched south. When I got to the donut I felt good so I made the call to go straight through to home. I rang Mick who was a little concerned as I had just ridden nearly 1200 kms in 3 days and then was attacking a 700km drive as well. I had no real dramas, spoke with Eagle, Mick, Nick, Chicken, the king, Crash and others  I got on the M7 about 20mins from home and needed to have a 20 minute snooze ;) Home at 12.20 record time, shower and into bed. This morning Kieran’s tennis was CANCELLED

Now the work starts the remains of a road trip

On the throttle tube there is a 6mm threaded hole underneath at the 6 o’clock position. You will need a long 6mm fine thread screw about 15mm long from memory. as you wind in you will find the throttle wont rotate as far thus limiting the about of throttle the child can get. Maybe fit a lock nut as well, just check if its needs one.

Just look at your Tenere, your wife had me fit one to it so you couldn’t hurt yourself

As far as the training wheels go I cant help as I feel if the kid cant ride without them they will never learn, teach them to ride a push bike first. Besides the wheels get hung up all the time and can kick the bike if they hit something, just my opinion

i agree to go out and ride as many bikes as you can but there might be someones opinion that is outside of the way Aaron has been thinking that might give him a good idea on his next choice of bike
, i thought that was the whole idea of these sites when you post a question like these up

I am sure not one is disagreeing with what you are saying husky I know I agree :) I worded my first reply wrong. Ask away it’s the only way you learn it’s what I tell my students

your right TB it is his choice and you have to be happy with it because lets face it how long has Aaron owned his current yamaha?
but he has put this up on oldbulls to get some opinions for him to make his own decisions

Yeah that’s right, I guess I should have worded it a little better like ” listen to others opinions maybe but make your own” Oh and ride as many different bikes as you can!

call me pedantic but I also replace the grease in the new bearings with a known quality grease to get much better bearing life.

    Ollie

I don’t know if it’s pedantic Ollie, I have tried both repacking and just fitting them and seen no life difference either way. I was also told if you have to pick the seal out to pack it and then refit the seals you have damaged the integrity of the seal

    All food for thought

So my questions before i start are

1 do i need to replace the dust cover? I mean the rubber cover you can see where the axel passes through the hub.

Yes you should because you can’t reall get them out without damaging the sealing capabilities of the seal. Then dirt and crud will shorten the life of the new bearings

2 how do you get the rubber cover out with out wrecking it?

You really can’t, sometimes you can flick them out with a flat screw driver but it does damage them

3 how do you put the rubber seal back when the bearing has been replaced?

Use a Socket that has the same out side diameter as the seal, the outer edge is where the strength of the seal is so thats where you need to hit it in. Sometimes you can just hit around the outer edge with a flat end drift or a hammer on the outer edge but a socket is best.

Its also worth checking the wheel spacers that the seals run on
