Quote:thankyou very much for all the warm welcomes.
i really do hate to be a stick in the mud, but a regod bike really isnt an option for me.
we have 2 cars, one my04 astra i finished paying off last year which i gave to my gf,
and a my10 lancer vrx i just started paying off,
if i was to get a regod bike id be riding it to work, missus driving one car to work, and the other car just sitting there except for on rainy days when id drive instead of ride. probably a waste in rego, and if i was to sell one of the cars my missus would have to drive me to work on rainy days, and thatd be a bitch considering we work conflicting work hours.one of the positives of getting a new bike was when the girls got used to the chinese bike they could start riding the bigger bike too, and the thought of snapped off blinkers and smashed headlights isnt pretty.
i understand what you mean about the fines, when i was young one of my mates got caught on a bike, fine was a bit over $1k if i remember correctly.
seems i have alot to think about, seems like you cant even have fun in the bush on a bike without getting screwed by the gov these days.
either pay reg or pay fines, either way your a slave to them.
i thought being out of the city areas, the cops might be a bit lax.its hard enough deciding what bike lol, let alone deciding whether a reg bike or not.
99% of the rides here are rego required (non negotiable) and if you read the about us tab up the top will you will understand better what we are about. Hope you have a friend with acres or enjoy the drive to a ride park. Good luck with what you choose but there is plenty of fun to be had in the bush with rego bike as its heaps cheaper than paying the fine once

Good luck, I cant wait to see the finished product mate. Drink plenty when you do it I reckon would help

Quote:Captain,Any reason why you chose a mob from NZ. I’m not being critical or starting a OS vs Oz war but for something that is specialised and a one off would have thought local people would have been much easier. I know at the end of the day NZ is practically Australia anyway but was just wondering if they were seen as better quality or much cheaper cause the NZ dollar is crap or if there was a specific reason.
They do look the goods though, I must admit.
I like them as well they look the part
but I did wonder why NZ as well? Can I also mention that Tee n Cee do great work, are in Penrith make very hard wearing products, look the shit and are a great supporter of OBT
PS Good luck sticking them on I hate that job

Quote:so just to add to my confusion if I trailer the bike to nundle, is the ride a dirt loop back to nundle over 2 days ? only got the CRF450X so not setup for adventure style riding. Trailer up and back might be the go for me :blush:Sneezy
With the exception of some singles around Gingers Creek both routes will be very much the same and include a lot of adventure style riding. You cant do Nabiac to Nundle in a day through singles even if there were that many singles for the route (and there arent) Mick will do Gingers to Nabiac as he has done some of that before and thats adventure style
I just spoke with Boony and to quote him “its as much adventure as your end but with some singles around Gingers” He said they were coming home from Nabiac up Nowendoc road and its a major dirt road.
The Nabiac weekend ride the original ride was listed as an adventure ride I think it still is
Sneezy there is a two day ride at Hampton in Jan that would suit you and your CRF better, lots of singles, pines, the whole smash Pub accommodation, watch for it to be posted in Dec

BTW who after they are told (I dont know why I bother) and reads that they need a puller to remove the taper mounted flywhell trys to flog it off and stuffs the end of the crank? I know you have bought a new crank but that crank could have had a rod kit pressed it and be reused. Imagine if the engine spins a main in the future and destroys that side of the crank, you would have had a spare

Quote:Handy tip number 1.I saw this in a magazine some time back. It saves you from buggerising about working out what bolt goes in what hole when rebuilding.

Nice handy tip Mick

Handy tip number 2,
When its suggested to strip the engine before you order the parts because you could need more parts? (3rd gear was given as an example wasnt it? ) then you will only need one parts order, no extra freight or waiting for extra parts
Then tip 3 doesnt matter
Handy tip 3 most importantly
STOP RINGING ME AND SAYING YOU HAVE JINXED ME AGAIN LIKE YOU HAVE DONE TWICE NOW WITH THIS BIKE you rang and asked advice LISTEN next time   Bring it up to Coffs and we will go through it with a fine tooth comb over a stubbie mate and maybe we can educate just a few of us
Will be a good prop to show the peeps how a gearbox works and shifts actually

Quote:Now that it is a necessity to clean my carby I have been thinking and have a couple of other questions before I commence. With the mixture/air/idle screws or whatever they are called is there a need for me to take them out as part of the cleaning process. If so, in order to make sure I put them back right do I just measure the number of turns from fully screwed in to the current position. Should I do that anyway just to know where things are set.
Yes mate count the turns and write it down, perfect
Wash it all I use petrol and blow everything out with a blow gun on the compressor.Take your time, clean is your friend

Quote:I assumed the Sydney boys would be adventure biking the trip. I gather this assumption is wrong and you will be dirt biking it.We will be adventure style riding out of Windsor, into the Watagans, into Newcastle and up to Nabiac. Dirt, fire trails, twin trails and I will throw some singles in to show the Tenere can do anything (singles will be and option)
There will be a thread for the Nabiac ride etc that has a better name. Boony the name makes me think of a drag race, or the likes but not a 3 day ride weekend

TB
Are you planning to travel to tamworth and ride down with Boony’s group or ride up from Sydney with the Sydney, Central Coast and Newcastle group jarrodl?
TB
Welcome, Ollie and Dusty are on the money IMO, the only other thing I suggest would be a
2nd hand TTR250. Cheaper get some experience, be sure its what you want and then you will have
more of an idea when yhou buy your dream bike whatever that maybe. A TTR is electric start very low maintenance and a little more grunt then a 230.
If you are keen on a 230 I recommend the CRF after seeing what Kat’s as doneTB
Hey Boony, if you have a support vehicle you may need to throw some swags or tents on mate. There are limited cabins at Nabiac for the saturday night and if you guys have a support vehicle then its easier for you guys to carry your tents / swags. I will camp as I have a light weight setup but there are others that dont was my thinking
If you bring 10 from Tamworth and 6 or so come from Wauchope and I get 10 from Sydney, Newcastle and the Central Coast well it will be a huge night at Nabiac. I will ring the Caravan Park and museum tomorrow and get things happening
I will also start a ride thread later (with a better name  ) and we can combine them like the ride gatherings with area threads

It will be huge :woohoo:
