I think they are meant to be on the outside so they don’t get pinched or squashed between any foreign object that may get in there and the spinning wheel. Not sure about the brake line but the speedo cable has always been on the outsiden on mine.

I thought on the outside they can get damaged by sticks, rocks etc. They should be routed around to the back of the fork leg as well so the leg protects it as well. But you know about thought

Just got of the phone with Gab an Old Bull (and my step father) he has suggested a couple of things for the trip has he has spent a bit of time out there.

He recommended visiting Mundi Mundi Plains lookout 10mins past Silverton it has a view called end of the world.

He also pointed out a different route out of Menindee which would take us out through Kinchega National Park around Kinchega National Park and Lake Menindee and then back up to rejoin the orginal route

    Cheers Gab

TB what made you chose the asterix brace over the others avalible??

I wear a Thor knee protector but although they are very comfortable and I have had plenty of offs with no knee injury I’m not sure of the rotation prevention so I have been looking a knee braces and their seems to be a lot out there and huge price differences.

What’s your , now first hand, thoughts?

Nick as you said with knee braces you can spend 2k a leg or 150 a leg. I don’t think you get the protection from a cheap pair. I spent 6 months doing my research as I had a cheaper pair and wasn’t convinced they helped at all. I bought a pair of asterisk braces and recommended them to Mal5.1 and Boulder who have them now.
They aren’t the cheapest around or are they the dearest, they offer great protection are super comfortable (in fact after the poker run I wore them around in Mick’s shed for nearly 4 hrs after we got back without noticing) I never notice I have them on when riding or walking yet feel safer when I realise I have them on. They offer heaps of adjustment and after seeing the aftermath of Boulders big crash where he broke his left hand brace (parts are easily obtainable) and listening to him speak about it convinced he would have seriously injured himself without them (he does have a niggling injury from it) I was convinced. Now from this experience and listening to a orthopedic surgeon at the hospital emergency ward say without my brace on I would have been up for a artificial knee replacement minimum  200kgs of bike smashing your leg into the ground.

I tried a few on and they were the most comfortable and they I feel offer better retention on your leg then pods for example and the likes that just have 4 straps that secure then around your leg. Because when push comes to shove I want them where I fitted them not moving around my leg. The parts are available, they are strong and even after this my brace is undamaged and ready to rip.

All just from my experience and opinion

My orginal write up when purchased

Mick there is not drain bolt there in the frame like an XR for the oil to be carried in the frame tube. So the question you just asked on the phone relating to the drain hole in the bash plate you own, answer is I would say its not of a TT but a XR like the guy that gave it to you said. (How do I know he gave it to you, cause you would be to tight to buy it  :P ) Could be a XR500 that was different to the 600’s you had as was the real early 600’s first two models from memory

(Where is the IT add mate so I can post it??)

Link here doesnt mention it, interesting specs though eh?

Well here are part of one of the reports as such

Some retropatellar discomfort (they aren’t f*#kin kidding  ) very large haematoma ligaments appear intact
No fracture is seen on the right knee with maintained joint spacing with no patellar malalignment. There is a soft tissue density demonstrated anterior to the patella within cutaneous tissue likely representing prepatellar bursitis
No significant knee joint effusion to suggest internal derangement
Impression of the mild patella alta
    No patellar malalignment

    Blah Blah blah :P

I am not sure and can’t see the doc to tomorrow but I think it means because of my Astrisk knee braces I dodged a bullet here BIG TIME :)

I cant recommend the Astrisk braces enough, they have proven themselves for me beyond my expectations. The only thing for me that is good as the protection they offer is I never notice I am wearing them ;)

Subject: DIARY OF A POMMIE IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA . (“Pommie” – English immigrant.)

August 31 – Just got transferred with work from Leeds UK to our new home in Karratha , Western Australia . Now this is a town that knows how to live! Beautiful, sunny days and warm, balmy evenings. I watched the sunset from a deckchair by the pool yesterday. It was beautiful. I’ve finally found my new home. I love it here.

September 13 – Really heating up now. It got to 31 today. No problem though. Living in air-conditioned home, driving air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this. I’m turning into a sun-worshipper.

September 30th – Had the back yard landscaped with tropical plants today. Lots of palms and rocks. No more mowing lawns for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

October 10th – The temperature hasn’t been below 35 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least today it’s windy though. Keeps the flies off a bit. Acclimatizing is taking longer than I expected.

October 15th – Fell asleep by the pool yesterday. Got third degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed three days of work. What a dumb thing to do! Got to respect the ol’ sun in a climate like this.

October 20th – Didn’t notice Kitty (our cat) sneaking into the car before I left for work this morning. By the time I got back to the car after work, Kitty had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stuck to the upholstery. The car now smells like Whiskettes and cat shit. I’ve earned my lesson though: no more pets in this heat.

October 25 – This wind is a bastard. It feels like a giant fuckin’ blow dryer. And it’s hot as hell! The home air conditioner is on the blink and the repair man charged $200 just to drive over and tell me he needs to order parts from fuckin’ Perth ….

October 30th – The temperature’s up around 40 and the parts still haven’t arrived for the fuckin’ aircon. Been sleeping outside by the pool for three nights now. Bloody $600,000 house and we can’t even go inside. Why the hell did I ever come here?

November 4 – Finally got the ol’ aircon fixed. It cost $1,500 and gets the temperature down to around 25 degrees, but the humidity makes it feel about 30. Stupid repairman.

November 8 – If one more smart arse says ‘Hot enough for you today?’ I’m going to fuckin’ throttle him. Fuckin’ heat! By the time I get to work, the car’s radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking fuckin’ wet and I smell like baked cat!

November 9 Tried to run some errands after work, wore shorts, and sat on the black leather upholstery in the ol’ car. I thought my fuckin’ arse was on fire. I lost two layers of flesh, all the hair on the backs of my legs and my fuckin’ arse. Now the car smells like burnt hair,
    fried arse and baked cat!

November 10 – Weather report! It might as well be a fuckin’ recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny, Hot and fuckin’ sunny! It’s been too hot to do anything for two fuckin’ months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week.

November 15 – Doesn’t it ever rain in this damn fuckin’ place? Water restrictions will be next, so my $5,000 worth of palms might just dry up and blow into the fuckin’ pool. The only things that thrive in this hell-hole are the fuckin’ flies. You don’t dare open your mouth for fear of swallowing half a dozen of the fuckers!

November 20th – Welcome to HELL! It got to 45 fuckin’ degrees today. Now the air conditioner’s gone in my car.. The repair man came to fix it and said, ‘Hot enough for you today?’ I had to spend the $2,500 mortgage payment to bail me out of jail for assaulting the stupid fucker. Fuckin’ Karratha! What kind of sick, demented fuckin’ idiot would want to live here!

    December 1 –

    WHAT!!!!

    The first day of Summer!!!!

    You are fuckin’ kidding!
