So I was half an hour early into Wauchope, gave the Mayor a ring and he dismissed himself early from work (as if he works) As he said around to his place, unloaded all the gear and had a couple of quick ones and into the pool.
Soon after they started coming into the shed like browns cows

We yaked and yarned and talked plenty of shit. Nate turned up with his wheel in very sad condition. I soon found a few extra problems and had to cut most of the spokes out as they had seized. I saved enough inners and outers so he would have plenty of spares for the years to come.

I spent sometime getting the wheel perfect with my drunk offsider going “that’s ok it’s a f*#king dirt wheel” Anyway I sat and got it spot on. I was finding the going tough in the shed as it was so hot !

Mick cooked a gun feed and it was back in the pool and of to bed way too late would have been later but when I suggested we go back down the shed and get a couple Mick said nah (probably smart )

Next day it was up at 7am and dressed and waiting for Moose at 8am. We fuelled as we left town, the mayor had me worried after his run up the mountain the week before and Moose aka the Fonz I figured would be ok but the knobbies would hold him back, how wrong was I.

The Fonz (if that zipper let go someone was going to lose and eye )

    The Mayor

Of we went, cruised out of town, chatting with Mick through the first little bendy section and get some warmth into the tyres, Moose was hanging down the back. We rode the boring section and as we approached the mountain Mick was giving me a run down when moose went sooting past myself and Mick. So I waited behind Mick for a while and then slipped past him and took of after Moose. My god he was leaning ol Burple on those semi knobbie things it was blowing my mind but with warmth in the soft road tyres I was past him and soon backing it into corners with Mick saying over the blue tooth another big black mark. I found I could lay it into most corners leaving into the corner I was having a ball. I stopped Moose and swapped bikes with Mick, I followed Mick for a little bit and then passed him and rounded Moose up after a while, I found the trailwing tyre on the rear of Micks bike would slide when pushed. We waited for Mick as he was finding the front end of my bike with the 17inch strange, it takes a little while to get used to certainly longer then he rode it and the found brake is unnerving as well.

I lead the guys to the sign we rode via all weekend

We arrived at Gingers Creeks where of course the Mayor was known and we had a smick bacon and egg roll. I decided to lean my plastic chair that had spent too many years in the sun and the leg snapped of down I went

The it rained, it pissed down. We set of when the shower stopped, Moose very quickly set a pace I went with him and slipped past but as Mick mentioned I arrived at a corner and got in a little hot, I had options it was never a drama and reckoned I could have turned it in but it had heaps of run of so I went straight on at walking speed turned around the post and went straight back on the road. The road dried and Moose and I left Mick behind he amazed me on those tyres and Burple as Mick said at his place if we hadn’t of got caught behind a caravan he wouldn’t have seen us for ages.
We all rode within blue tooth distance for the next bit and then Moose got back on my bike, I sat behind Mick saying to him this thing has no BRAKES!!! Anyway once I got the hang of it I sooted Mick into a 35kph corner that we could see around, he thought it was Moose

Moose was waved past Mick went with him and I joked with Mick I would be riding Burple back to Wauchope but Moose stopped down the bottom and we cruised back.

We stopped at Mud n Tar and I got some oil and a filter said hi to Rod. Went and looked at Charlie’s death trap

We got back to Micks had a beer / rum etc a swim. I started jamming rums into Moose, I serviced me bike and converted it back to dirt spec and Mick changed the front mud guard for me. We swam some more and I tried talking the guys into stopping the drinks and going for a night dirt ride that night but no takers.

We destroyed some chickens for a late lunch, Moose got picked up and we had a feed of Thai for dinner. Conner and I played some MX ATV unleashed on the PS2 and the mayor went to bed.

Thanks to Lessa and Mick for letting me stay and Lessa for putting up with all that goes on. Moose for all the safe fun on the hill, no one crashed or ended up on the wrong side of the road or in any drama so that what we want. Moose you are a legend and I had a ball dicing with you, god help me if you had been on something with road tyres, brakes and power I couldn’t have got away at will then for sure.

    Thanks guys

Well to answer the PM’s about my shoulder. It is exactly 3 months since the operation. It has given no real trouble, I had a scare in December when I was getting some sharp pains and had some scans but it was put down to straining because of over doing my exercises
It has pulled up sore after this weekend and made me rethink riding for such a long distance at Chichester. Its not hurting like in December and as relaxed heaps today so I am sure it will be fine

    Thanks to those that asked

Having never really ridden the XR with anything but knobbies,I was having a ball hooting around the corners (Corners that would be at home on a race track) on the trailwings. So much so, on inspection of the tyres when I got home, there wasn’t the tiniest hint of a chicken strip on the rear. :woohoo:

A few things come to mind after saturdays ride

    – The chicken strips as you called them above after the ride with Moose and I looked wider then your tyre

    – You came home with more excuses from the ride then I thought possible (maybe that’s why we spent so much time waiting for you hey Moose )

    – It wasnt your tyres either because I passed Moose on your bike :P

    – I was quicker on that chair then you on your bike that’s why it broke when I had it on one leg ;)

    Now nick off

What a great ride / weekend will get my photos loaded tonight maybe and write a story

On another note my shoulder pulled up stiff and sore this morning but I have worked out it maybe from lifting my bike and other things I did yesterday more so then riding the bike.

Due to increased work loads and time restrictions this year the ride will become a adventure ride when I get around to running it. Any bike can be used but it will be a carry all ride, that is no support you want it you carry it, including camp gear for some of the overnight stays

    To later

Sorry to better explain, after yesterdays ride my shoulder has shown some soreness meaning it maybe hasn’t recovered as quickly as I had first hoped.
