in reply to: Huskies 2 year warranty is it lip service #163199

As with any warranty there are requirements to keep the bike under warranty as such

BMW do a 70hr service on their 450 that is worth over $3500 and has the crankshaft replaced

Your Husky Mal has to have its piston replaced every 850kms? or 1000kms to maintain the warranty, cost of that piston I know is being questioned as we speak but even if it’s not the $520 that we think it is now its still and incredible cost every 5 or so rides I think. And that’s only the piston, does it require main brgs or something as well? I have also heard that Husky want the bike servicing has to be done by one of its dealers for the warranty ( I have also heard some dealers wave that requirement)

I was told KTM require the services to be done by a licensed bike mechanic?

These are just examples of different manufacturers warranty requirements. As the length of the warranty for the bike goes up so does the cost of keeping the bike in warranty to the owner, this cost is so the manufacturer can afford the warranty.

Is it a lip service? To my way of thinking its like insurance for the owner and the manufacturer, you pay to have it looked after if there is a problem, they have you pay them in case there is a problem. We pay insurance and never make a claim and end up thinking if we saved that money would we have been better off??

For example you would think the 3 and half K in the BMW case would go a long way towards the rebuild when it is worn out.

If the piston price stays at $520 for the Husky, well I would think a Wisco piston would have to be good for 4000 to 5000kms saving over $2000 towards its rebuild.

Read the fine print gentlemen and read in carefully

Lip service isn’t a good name for it, expense insurance maybe

Whatever it finishes midnight to night we have had a run of donations in the last 12hrs so that’s great we have raised AUD $ 3,530.98

I would like to thank the guys from the site that grew their mo’s for the whole of the month and those that nearly did as well :P  Seriously great job everybody

I would also like to thank the guys from here that donated as well, I would hope next year if we get better organised there would be more people participate and more that dont grow donate and again thanks to those that did

From my points of view that just means a few more bearings I will have to replace.

Yeah right what bullshit that is, you dont even replace your own spark plug / wheels brgs / tyres / steering dampers etc etc etc ha ha ha ha ha ha

With some maintance they dont give a problem mine are still original and I only repack them once a year ;)

Funny you mention that long flat run Mick, on the way back to Krams place we came across two foriegn Lads from Switzerland one was on a Honda V twin transalp and had been doing a world tour. He had already clocked up over 260,000 untroubled KM’ss. ol mate had also won the “rat” trophy from the rally.
    Ollie

Funny you mention that as well Ollie cause I saw a transalp on the weekend that someone had just purchased thats done 110,000kms + and it looks original to me. The bolt heads and joints all look original You hear a lot of Honda stories of big miles like that
I figure Rats 1.2milion kms riding would have been mostly Jap as well eh Rat  And in your sleep
