Aaron wrote:This thing looks pretty handy. I used the press at work when I did mine. But that dragged me away from home using up precious brownie points.
This looks like something I could keep in my home tool box. Thanks for posting. BTW I was talking to Buzz re this today and he asked if his old hair dryer would do to heat up linkages and the like. I couldn’t see why not just as long as he held it there long enough.
The trouble with using a hair dryer is it heats it slowly, this gives time for aluminium to transfer the heat into the bearing as well. While the steel bearing won’t expend as fast it can and does expand. A heat gun heats faster minimising the heat transfer into the bearing

MrSquiggle wrote:Hey TB,Merlyn is out for this ride, his KTM 990 is still not repaired, they have found the problem though, loose main crank bolt
No chance he will be ready.
No good mate, you would think that they would loan him a bike given that it broke down with less than 1000kms on it and only weeks old and its taken them since the last navigation ride in June to just diagnose it!!!  Shame on the dealer and KTM

Lots of updates and a pre run video in the next 24hrs guys :woohoo: :woohoo:

Unfortunately I am going to have to pull out.I had broken my leg riding in NZ south island mountains late March and so missed out on APC as well as first OB nav ride.
Thought leg would be fully healed by now when I signed up early July .
Below knee bone break is fully repaired, but ankle ligaments and tendons are still well stuffed, swollen and weak as shit, so no riding for me this weekend… bugger!!Hopefully see you on the next one.
Looking fwd to ride reports
Cheers
Greg51Bad luck Greg, there will be more rides mate. Look after yourself and get in on the next one eh. Thanks for the heads up as well
Get well soon

Thanks
JohnnyLittle Johnny all will be revealed later in the week.

Heat it with a heat gun not a flame style heat. A heat gun is all they use at Tekniks all the time disassembling suspension and engine parts

Just wait re fuel containers etc, with regards to fuel there will be a change to the distance between day two fuel stops they wont be as far due to a few changes announced later in the week. We rode some bloody huge hills today (wont be in to route) steeper than I thought possible on a Tenere a few times but they climb  one beat us but, causing a massive change to the route. Just looking the maps now the route we were forced to try (the steep hills) , was caused by the new nature reserve that was the original route.
Still got two steep hills in the route, you will be ok if your take our time
Crash and I are still out with more to do tomorrow, the King has returned to work with the minions
Much more later

Rode it again today

Brief overview of yesterday
Start time will be bought forward to 7am just to help and get everyone in early
Bush saws work
The ride has a few technical sections
There a few decent downhills, if taken in first and treated with respect they a easy
Some of the faster gravel roads have been recently graded and are very slippery
The ride has a lower average speed than the last few
We stayed at the same Saturday night accommodation we are using in the ride last night and it was ok. Good feed and very helpful
Yes there is no fuel, food etc after the morning fuel stop which should you have left by 10am at the latest. Take some snacks maybe a sandwich from the fuel stop.
Pics and more later
