You’ve set the standard, Chris. No-one’s working on my bike until they’ve proved they’re fit and have dressed for the occasion!

Seriously though, I’m glad I saw this post before hauling off that fishtank hanging from the forks and put an Acerbis on. I know it’s been a while, but can I run a question past you?

Earth is an easy pick on my Acerbis but is there any smarter way to tell which contact is which on the end of the globe than to plug it in and see what happens?

The globe’s a 12v 35/35; what I know about electrics could only get me into trouble but my guess is I’m not going to weld the front end into a solid mass by getting it wrong (famous last words?) The globe only goes in one way and the whole shooting match looks like this:

I soldered up a couple of connectors, hit them with cable-labels and shrink-tubed them together, so swapping them around’s not going to be a problem, but for all I know I might pop the globe if I get it wrong first time. They don’t sell these globes on every street corner so any advice would be appreciated!

Replacement ‘mantlepiece’ options are looking a little pricey still, so I’ll run up some cardboard templates for the clock brackets and run up a drawing or (.dxf file) then get a sheety on the case. Any gotchas you can think of?

    Cheers

Curious to see how they go on. Got to be cheaper than a new radiator and a lifetime of pushing.

I spent years in IT, mostly fibre-optics, routers etc. I bailed a few years ago (the on-call finally got to me… ). I’m now a full-time Industrial Design student working in bookshops.

The dyno work was done commercially in WA. Can’t praise the work enough – the same guy worked miracles on my SR500 cafe racer. If anyone can recommend a Melbourne bike dyno shop; I’m interested!
My mate’s 300 with the unplugged exhaust and Staintune header only reached 23.5 but the maximum power figures don’t tell the whole story, do they? Good to know that it’s running the best it can, though.
Fork springs (in transit), MX Retreads, then the kit!
The valves replace the screws on the fork cap. As the oil heats up and off-gases, pressure builds up making the action a little stiffer than planned. Rather than pulling out a screwdriver between loops, you just pull the bike up on the stand and rear wheel and give each valve a quick push. Two mouse farts later you’re away.

I’ve ‘remodeled’ a radiator – looking forward to your photos so I can see if they’ll fit the new shape I came up with! The Tech4s went through the paint ages ago – what else do the frame guards do?
    Cheers, ‘Nuro’

Thanks Chris, I’ll be taking you up on that! I think I can see what yours had for breakfast up that Staintune – mine’s still wearing the 20 kilo kazoo… Straight off the bat, do you reckon a KDX speedo would work? Waiting for a legal/cheap/light clock before I put the Acerbis light on. Will check out TT… Happy to see some green, myself!
