Well folks,
I have bitten the bullet and ordered a Ralle-Moto RM2 steering damper. Vaughn recons I should have it towards the end of the week.
In the meantime, as I also need them for the Ralle-Moto RM2 steering damper, I installed 30mm SW Motech handle bar risers. In short, they are great and give me a better reach, especially when riding standing up as I no longer have to have a slight crouch. I tried them yesterday over a 200km ride and felt very comfortable.
Here they are fitted:

I will try to do a similar post to TB around the fitment of the Ralle-Moto RM2 steering damper. That said, I have never heard of an “easy out” :S so it may be an interesting experience
Cheers TT
Hi Pedro,
I bought them from Repco. They are Narva units (I am not sure how much I paid for them but it was not much). I also bought separate blade fuse holders and wired them up with 5A fuses each (I don’t need that much and will change them to 2A when I get the chance).
Here is a photo of the blade fuses.

Fantastic write up Nickj!
Thanks
I think this is going to be a great ride out. Do you plan to camp over the 3 days?
Cheers
A great idea STM! I like the bit that it stays with you if you get separated from the bike.
Hopefully I never get separated from the bike but if the SHTF, then the SPOT should keep on plugging away regardless and somebody looking can send in the cavalry
Thanks for the 1 foot tip, I measured mine and it is far enough from my Garmin GPS, so its all good, more by luck than judgement!
Cheers.
Hi Choot, thanks for this post, I will get this for my Ten as well. I have been holding back as I did not feel the need to change my handlebars to a thicker unit as required with the older damper.
By the way mate, are you happy with the handle bar risers fitted to your bike (I have been thinking about them as well 😆 )?
Cheers
I picked up the bike from Teknik’s on Friday after having a “Greg spec” fitted
In short, I am very happy with the result and the bike now feels much firmer and certainly does not dive as much under braking. It also feels coming out of corners as if there is more direct drive under acceleration. If you plan on either loading up your Tenere or to go serious off roading, I recommend this upgrade as a fantastic investment.

I guess we have the two extreme measures at play here; regular commuting in Sydney traffic (my worst consumption), country touring 2 up (my best consumption) versus your trail riding figures obtained by a lot of throttle plays and full range gear shifting I assume. Either way, these things are fantastic on fuel!
Oh and I suspect that you are right about the cush drive thing TB. Apparently they don’t last long when you ride it proper
TB, that sounds like a plan in the making.. kinda, like a long winter ride to test all the cold weather gear out
Almost a dumb and dumber sort of ride
I may just join you!
Cheers,
Jan
Thanks mate, I will make sure to mention it
I actually think that we are going to duplicate your setup as my riding is also a compromise between me riding single (most of the time) or with the boss on the back (weekends) with some luggage to fully loaded for longer trips (occasionally). Your comments and reviews have been duly noted! cheers, Jan
Sorry folks, for whatever reason the photo did not load and created a duplicate posting
You can see the photo here in Photobucket
Hi folks, no story, just a quick pic of me and the Tenere:) It is going to Teknik’s tomorrow for the full suspension overhaul to beef it up a bit. As you can see, we normally travel 2 up and can add up to 30 kg of luggage. All up extra max weight (rider, passenger and 30 kg of luggage) is around 180kg (still 10 kg shy of the max limit of 190 kg). That said, the suspension is suffering when loaded up so a visit to Teknik is going to sort that out!
Thanks Eagle’02. The tyres are still the originals and are OK for now. I have done a couple of rides in the State Forrests around North West Sydney and whilst not proper for high speed off road usage, they seem to be an OK compromise between my commute and occasional weekend longer rides, including some off road rides. I will upgrade to something different when the time comes to replace them (not sure what though). Cheers.
