The Mekon is kind of a navy guy – I am ship’s captain with CSL Australia on large self unloading bulk ships.

I rang my local dealer last week and secured a new KLX450 at a good price, then got my wife to hand the deposit over – gee I love that woman!

For those who came in late………. The Mekon is a little green bald guy from Venus who featured in the comic strip “Dan Dare” of my youth. He is an evil little character and floats around on a little boat shaped chair.

Am posting this on the introduction thread as well –

The Mekon has been around a while – 53 years and long time road rider, but only in the past three years has taken to dirt bike riding.
Currently ride a 05 KLX250 which has been upgraded to 300cc, dynojet + full Staintune system. Around 10kg stripped from the bike and I think she is a pretty good dirt machine, ie at least as good as a DRZ400, and can almost keep up with my mate’s WR450.
I live in Bowral NSW, and ride a lot around the trails off Wombeyan Caves Rd, and also at Belanglo State Forest.
I have just bought a new KLX450R. I am away at work right now, and will take delivery when I get back home in three weeks.
How did I hear of this forum? Someone must have sent a p.m. to every Australian on the thumpertalk forum – that’s how I heard.
Look forward to seeing some of you riders down in the Belanglo forest.

I am new to this forum, but not to the KLX

I have a 05 KLX250/300 and have used a number of different gear ratios.

I am now settled on 13/46 with a 108 link chain.
This gives me the most options to change ratios without a new chain.
I can run 13, 14 or 15t fronts with this back sprocket.

That said, I have found the best ratio for trails on my bike (remember it is a 300) is 13/47.
It will lug slong in third gear at slow speeds on this ratio – my bike has a few mods and very good low down power.
