    Hi again HB,
Sorry about my earlier rant but as I said I am passionate about this subject.
If I didn’t have such a good job I would have my own shop cause I love bikes.

I just thought of something else, now I know not everybody is the same but…….

Customer Service has to be your top priority.
I have quite often paid more and bought things from my preferred local dealer because as I said earlier I think he is a good bloke.
I recently bought a helmet and knowingly paid $53 dollars more than what I could have got it for elsewhere (about 10 mins difference in travel time) but was only to happy to do so.

This guy is only a small shop but takes the time to find out what you like, knows exactly who you are when you walk in, asks have you been riding lately, asks about your family etc and generally delivers a personal service.

I often go in on a Saturday morning just for a chat, even if I don’t particularly need anything I’ll walk out with a tyre or hat or DVD or something just because I was there and want to support them.

Once you sell some bikes and get a database going, email your customers on a weekly or fortnightly basis to see how there bike is going, are they happy with the suspension settings? etc etc.
Offer to have them bring it in and have your mechanic check the sag and play with clickers for free, maybe you should try this tyre etc, while they are there I bet they buy something ;)

Organise some trail rides locally if you can, they wont wear them out if they are sitting in the garage

This thread will go on forever, you are going to get sick of hearing from me

    Hey HB,
You need EVERYTHING in a bike shop
I tell my local dealer all the time….. ” You cant sell what you havent got” ;)

You need to carry as much gear as you can, try to do deals getting it on consignment so the dealer doesn’t pay for it until they sell it.
Blokes wont wait for something these days, they can just go down the road or get it on Ebay, so you need to have what they want
Need to be open longer hours too, even if it means not opening as early but staying open later in the evening, pay some kid to open Sunday morning so you can call in on the way to a ride and pick up a spare plug and lever etc. cause you cant sell stuff when you are shut either.

Sorry I am a bit passionate about this because the shops whinge about people buying off the net but then the mostly give a 2nd rate service and wonder why people aren’t buying. Plus I love to spend money on my bikes, I am sure no one has noticed

Heaps of Tyres, Tubes, Spark plugs, Levers, chains and sprockets, oils, washes, tools etc that people will grab cause they are there.
Take a look at what Ballards does and have some non essential but trick bits there, but if you are going to promote them make sure you have them.
Nothing is more frustrating than going out of your way to go somewhere and buy something out of their add / catalogue and they dont have one
Not only to suit the bikes that the dealer sells either…. why limit your market?

If you do need to order something in make sure you keep the customer informed via email or text, it only takes a few seconds but will get you a good wrap to all his mates

I still buy as much as I can off my preferred local guy, and he doesn’t sell the bike that I ride, cause I think he is a top bloke and he always looks after me, so it would help if you are a top bloke too ;)

Being an Old Bull I am sure you would be B)

Ok so I think its official the supplied instructions are crap.. You would think for the price they would include a how to DVD. Just like that Clive palmer bloke had done in recent weeks 😆 😆

anyway im happy with the way mine are ajusted i belive the boot should be enough to stop the brace from rotating around on my leg. So i won’t be using the tether strap.plus i don’t want to drill a $400 boot and$100 pants. Just my thoughts

    Andy

    HI Andy,
I havent drilled my boots or cut my pants either, I cant see them moving.
I cant get mine to move without boots on and the boots only hold them tighter.

    IMHO ;)

    Hi All,
A ride report from this morning’s ride with Adam at Ourimbah.
I was close to pulling the pin last night as I have the flu and been feeling off since thursday but decided that seeing as I organised the ride I cant very well not show up.
We all met at the designated spot, Dttugboat and I arrived and found Husaberger already there (not that we knew it was him to begin with).
We had started getting ready when Budge and Needlemeyer rolled in. After some introductions we finished off getting suited up and were waiting for Adam.
I received a message from Adam saying that he was just fixing a fuel leak and it wasn’t long until he arrived with Action.
Quick run through the corner man and Adam led off with Action sweeping.

At this point I must apologize for my display of dirt bike crashing early on the ride

We started with some rocky rutted hills that were quite ridable but I was doing my best to fall off at every opportunity.
No matter what I tried I just could not get into any kind of rhythm except when I was on the ground.
I knew what I needed to do but just couldn’t make myself do it
I must of tasted the dirt 5 times in 45 mins and felt like a complete gumby
A big thanks to Action for your patience while I was trying to figure out how to ride a dirt bike

The positive of this was that by around the 45 min mark I had already worked up one hell of a sweat and was actually starting to feel a bit better.

Wasn’t long after that we hit some singles and I was at least starting to find some kind of rhythm and managed to keep it rubber side down for a bit.

Adam continued to lead us around some awesome singles for the next hour and a half or so with a couple of quick snack breaks.

There was a nice loose hill back up to one of the main tracks that was fun as well.
Unfortunately when we arrived here it was time for Dttugboat and myself to depart and head back home. With Adam’s instructions we were back to the car in no time. The other continued on and I trust they had a pleasant afternoon.
It was an awesome early morning squirt and we both had a ball ( well maybe I didn’t for the first bit  )

Thanks again to Adam and Acton for leading and sweeping, sorry about my gumby moments

    TB

    Thanks a lot TB,
While the bike is in pieces I think I will go the whole hog and get some new bling handlebars and heated grips, that Lithgow ride was cold. l am also keen on getting a damper after Plommer rd   and it might as well be now cause I don’t want to dismantle the bike again, not something I excel at

Don’t think Steve still sells the dampers does he?As for handlebars I think I read you got yours at Suttos if so would you mind letting me know what to get and I will do a little shopping.

    Cheers James

Hey james, I had heated grips on a street triple, super convenient but when you sell the bike you have to go again and if it gets really cold they dont really cut it. I just bought a set of heated gerbings gloves and jacket liner for rides like lithgow, much better that heated grips IMO used them on the wauchope ride twice. Little bit fiddly but absolutely great for keeping warm. I think ADVmoto sells heated gear as well. Others may be able to comment on those products.

Not sure Squiggle but do you plug that clothing into your bike cause I don’t even have any power outlets on my bike yet, which reminds me I need to get the GPS hardwired also.

This is becoming a looong to do list :P

Have tried thicker gloves in the past but struggled with the lack of feel on the controls, maybe the ones you speak of aren’t that thick and rely more on the heat

Either way it looks like I shall be paying ADV Moto a visit next week in regard to dampers and see what he has got in the way of keeping my hands warm on the colder rides

After the weather we had in Sydney today staying cool will be more of a concern shortly anyway

    James

You could try some of these Giant Loop “Hand guards” from Adventure Moto, i used them on the recent Nav ride and they do a good job of keeping the wind off you hands
