From where I was sitting it was just over 4 km.
Yeh Ross, lap it up. We all knew you cheated – we just can’t work out how ???

It looks to have been a blinder (even with the showers)
As you will probably see, I had a run down there today with GavB
Actually did some of the same trails plus some moreCheck my pics of Flat Rock Lookout today mate  Great weather , looks like we were blessed,,,,sorry
Can`t wait till the next one TW, so I can get amongst it.
CheersHi Eagle,
Good to hear that there is still a valley below Flat Rock.
All we saw on the day was mist. We were lucky with the weather on the day as we only got drizzle just as we pulled up at the lookout (of all places). Some of us put on spray jackets, only for it to clear once we had left.Austblue wrote:
Quote:What GPS did you use to log the trip TW? I’m pretty convinced I need to pick up a 60csx so I can track the rides with you blokes and head back out there to learn them myself.I have an etrex Venture – entry level price range. Any gps that has track logging will do the job Austblue.

POST CLOSED 10:10 pm.
says who what do you own this thread are you the thread police think youre big dog go bed now kids ha ha ha ha now the threads closed v8 supercars rule bathurst rules i rule tooheys rules boondog loves bald eagle blackberrys rule
Apols for upsetting you Squirrel.
Not wishing to come across as the Thread Police, but by the organiser declaring a thread closed, it is a way of informing those attending that there will be no last minute change of plans to the ride. It saves the organiser and the attendees having to check the post early the following morning.
If there is a change of plans by one of those attending, the organiser is only a mobile phone / text away.
Will rethink the wording next time.
I am in the process of putting together a bit of a slide show, and a video of the rolling race. In the mean time here is a report with some of the pics.
The group got away just after 9:30, after having received a call from Ross that he was enroute, but late.
With an easy run to the back of Mt Warrawong, the first technical section was encountered. Poor Ross make it down the drop OK but came undone just as he got to the bottom.
Dakar Hill was next, with most taking it pretty steady.
And then there’s Champo.
Coming out onto Watagan Road we then regrouped at Lynch’s Fire Trail. Along here the hill climbing skills were tested, with all making it up unassisted (well done RacyTracy).
Regrouping at Cabans Road we rested, had some sustenance (beef jerky and snakes), and mentally prepared ourselves for the rolling race.
TW thought he had won the race with the others riders pulling up just short, but he was beaten by Beemer and Champo, with Ross claiming the bragging rights. Rumour has it he eventually came to a stop in someone’s backyard in Millfield. I’ll post some video of the race later. (no pics, only video)
Following the race it was then straight to Flat Rock Lookout, where we took in the view of Quorrobolong valley through the mist.
It was here that Ross showed us his riding style that wins rolling races.
Arriving at Bowmans Road it was decided (well TW decided for the group) that all should have a go at the grade 4 single track, that was initially planned for just Champo and Justo. I don’t think Al will ever follow me down new single tracks again.
There were three sections of technical stuff – a rock step descent, a rutted descent, and a creek crossing. Although some of us were a bit out of our comfort zone all had a go, with assistance being offered as required.
Onto the rutted descent, Champo was keen to conquer it in the opposite direction. After his third attempt he admitted defeat (amongst the expletives). We were impress with just how far he actually did get.
The creek crossing was next, unfortunately where Kylie did better on the drop in than the climb out. Again there was someone there to help.
Coming out on Old mill Road it was then back to the cars, where Ross was presented his prize for the rolling race – an embroided shirt donated by Singleton Motorcycles.
The route:
Hi all,
Just a quick note. Bit pressed for time this evening. Will post a ride report and some images tomorrow.
My main concern was the heavens opening up and spoiling the day, but that was not to be. A little drizzle at Flat Rock Lookout towards the end of the ride was all we saw, just enough to spoil the view of the valley below. Trail conditions were perfect (except for the slippery rocks on the grade 4 single trail
).
Thanks to Champo for sweeping, and to Wikdbeemer for leading when required.
Thanks also to all those who braved the weather. Good ride and good company. (Wikdbeemer you left Old Al off your list – better edit your post before he notices  ).
Didn’t meet up with The Bill nor plus 1.
btw That wasn’t TW lying down in Champo’s pic. Proud to say he had no spills today – must not have been working old yella hard enough.
Thanks for the track condition update Ollie.
For once dust WON’T be an issue, particularly for the sweep rider. He will have to find something else to whinge about!

POST CLOSED 10:10 pm.
Weather update:
According to the current forecast they are forecasting late showers (1mm) for Saturday:
refer http://www.weather.com.au/nsw/cooranbong
The ride is still on – I’m not a fan of riding in the rain but it would be a shame to cancel only to find the conditions are favourable. Looking at the radar map throughout the day Newcastle has been copping it but not some much on the ranges.
Besides there are a couple of riders who are keen to meet up with us.
Will understand if people decide to pull out at the last minute due to an unexpected change in the weather.
If you have not turned up at the pines RTR 9 am (ready to ride) and I have not been phoned we will expect a rider cancellation. Will PM my mobile to those on the attendance list.
TW
I have a visitor staying from the Central Coast, and have been informed that it was blowing a gale down that way this morning.
I always pack a hand saw, but another one or two may come in handy.

Quote:That’s a bit rough – If you’re reading this, the bill – I think everyone here will agree that police presence at our riding spots only helps the good guys and from what we shared via PM it certainly seemed like that was your approach. I understand you probably can’t be too open about things on here but I think if you introduced yourself a little it’d help people understand that you weren’t here to be big brother watching us. Personally I thought that was pretty clear by the fact that you told us you’d be up thereCheers.
Welcome aboard again The Bill plus 1. I never was too good at cryptic crosswords. :S
See you somewhere on the day.
Being an Old Bulls ride, pls make sure your bikes are road worthy – never know who we may bump into up there.

I should be their, I will be riding from Maryland to the Pines. I will be coming in from Freemans water hole, if I don’t get loss.
Cheers RossSee you then Ross. Will have fuel for those like yourself. (I had almost given up on you).
Hi Austblue,
Have added you to the list.
Of course you are welcome. Unless a maximum number has been stated for a ride and that number has been reached, then all riders are welcome to put their name down.
see you at The Pines (maybe).
Hi, The Bill plus 1.
Welcome aboard. Pls confirm if we are to expect you +1 at The Pines.
Also let me know on the ride when you will be leaving the group thanks.merlot wrote:
Quote:can you advise best option to get to pines coming from hornsby? i looked on google maps and watagans rd looks nearly as far as wollombi :X ..am i right to go through central mangrove or yarramalong? thanks…russThanks TB.
Here are some instructions Russ:
The Pines Camping Area
From the South (eg Sydney) take the Morriset exit from the F3 freeway, follow the signs to Cooranbong.
Turn Left at Cooranbong onto Martinsville Road (the Fire Station is on the corner).
At Martinsville, turn Left onto Watagan Road. Turns to dirt.
Follow this road to a T-intersection. Turn Right onto Watagan Forest Road.
Follow Watagan Forest Rd until you come to a sign saying The Pines on the right (it might say Old Olney Camping Area or something like that), next to a picnic area. It is at an intersection with Wollombi Forest Rd/ Walkers Ridge Rd joining from the left.
There is another entry to the parking area 200 metres further along on the right.
