Good ride guys.
For such a large group the day ran smoothly – a credit to the organisers, and to the riders sticking to the plan.
Yes the dust was a problem but it was to be expected I guess based on the dry conditions and the number of bikes.
The ‘two corner man’ system was a top idea as it gave an opportunity to meet other Old Bulls and to catch up with the ones you knew. Here are some pics taken at the pub during lunch. Looking forward to the action shots taken by our trusty official photographer. I’ll get in early here and give him a big thanks for his work (and by doing so he may even delete the embarrasing ones of me
).
Arriving at the Wollembi Tavern
The view from across the road. It’s a very popular watering hole for Sydney road bikers.

Guys,
I’ve had my eye on a particular tyre of late, but not so sure if it will fit on the DRZ.
Informed opinions appreciated.champo35 wrote:

and it’s amazing that google has street view out on one of the tracks
Good try Champo, but watch me get out of this one …
I put it to Roger and Tracy whether they were willing to have a go at the climb, else I would take them the easier way around. Tracy told me that she was getting a lift up the climb with you, and Roger was undecided, so I took him around. Mate, if it wasn’t for Roger I would have shown you guys how to do the climb on one wheel! 😆I grabbed that particular section of google earth trail to see if anybody mentioned ‘Hey, I don’t remember that section of track, doubling back on ourselves at the dam’. Good spotting Champo.
Street view comes in handy when sussing out tracks. Remember where we waited for Al’s bum bag? I mapped those tracks along the top of the ridge last year using Google earth and found the turn off at the tar using street view. Very powerful and handy tool (as long as they keep it up to date).
Yes, I saw TB’s footage of you guys double-up on the climb. Most impressed. I have trouble with just me on the bike, let alone a pillion! Certainly some skill there that I often find lacking.
ps (Al don’t read this bit) remind Tracy to check out the photo of Al in the Ride Gatherings post for this ride.

Which GPS do you use and how do you overlay it to the maps? I am very keen to get a setup for myself so any info would be great.Cheers
s t m,
The Trailmate web site does it all for you. You upload the GPS file to the site and it auto maps it. Couldn’t be easier. I have a 12 month old Garmin etrex Venture (entry level), but older models work just as well. Credit here to Rogerdodger – last year some time I did a ride with him (similar route to what we did here actually) and unbeknowns to me he logged the ride and sent me the link to the Trailmate site. I was impressed so I got myself a suitable GPS. I notice the web site is Garmin friendly, but most models are catered for. Roger’s Garmin is a few years old and it works fine on the site.
What’s more impressive is you can use the Garmin software (Mapsource) to view the track using google earth. Gives a lot more detail. a snap shot is below.
This is why John Liddell and other bike tour operators ban GPSs from their rides.

Good ride Al.
Good weather, good route, good company, and always good to put a few faces to a few OBT riders.
Here are some pics:
To play the route on the map, click here to open the EveryTrail web site:

(wait for the map to fully download then click on the play button)TW

Quote:Al, I’m in the local RFS and we have been handed maps showing how the NPWS are going to fence the areas.
Most fire trails will be maintained but all the single tracks will be fenced offHi Old Bloke,
Is there a web site where the general public can view the proposed fencing?TW
Hi Al,
Just checked the calendar and I’m free, so I have marked it down. If you get along with the weather gods it should be a top ride.
With all these new fences going in it sounds like a good opportunity to update my mud maps of the area.

Thanks guys for the compliments re video.
Looks like I can’t post them anymore on Photobucket as this one was rejected due to music copyright. I’m not real good behind a guitar, so Megavideo it is. Apparently heaps of videos on Youtube are being doctored by this new music copyright detection program (its name escapes me for now) such that you can play the video but the audio has been muted. No doubt others will be changing to another web site to host their videos.
Ollie, Rogerdodger’s KDX – he must certainly look after his bikes as it’s 1989 model!
No Eagle, 26 June was a Friday. It was a shift worker/retiree/work dodger/dole bludger ride.
btw Frank P and a mate were there on the Thursday doing a Watagans ride. I was invited along but if I had gone I would have had to bolt on the training wheels for the Friday ride. :laugh:TW
Good report Mal, and good pics, especially this one.
It’s definitely worthy of a caption. Insert here …..
See how it works Dr Mutley ….. you dangle a little bait ….
Welcome fellow DRZ jockey.
We should organize a DRZ ONLY ride. That should give the others something to whinge about.
