Thanks to all for the advice. I bought a Dakar 2002 with 53ks for $6800. 4months rego.
Just needed the bike quickly for in 3 weeks we are heading to the corner.
This one has the original BMW panniers and rack system, tank bag and ABS and heated grips.
Pretty much ready and set to go. full service history and pedantic owner. Never dropped. Straight as can be.
May need a rear tyre as the one on it is maybe a bit road oriented.

Thanks again to all those who messaged me.
The next topic I post will be in regards to a good route out to the corner.

Thanks for the advice and link.

I just checked out those two BMW’s. One has 81k on it and he wants $7900. Tell him he’s dreaming….It must be an 03 or 04 perhaps? or just mint condition.
The other has 115k and he wants $6000 more reasonable price but so many k’s and 2000 model first of them from what I gather. So far away from me. Freight is $600 to get the bike to me and how do I know if its any good?
There is a mint 2000 model in Brissie with 13k for $7000. I need saddle bags ($680) and NSW rego )($600) do $8280 for a mint one with 13k on the clock.
Thats what I want but I only want to spend $7000 tops.

Just have to keep on looking.

    Hey guys
Still looking for that BMW 650 Dakar. Would consider a gs but prefer the Dakar. Off up to Brissie tomorrow to have a look at a couple. Anyone know of a good one available please let me know. The cash is burning a hole in my pocket and its only three weeks til we head to the corner…..

Is that an LC4 with a left footed kickstarter? If it is then it’s no good to me.
Mate had one . Good thing on the road and the dirt but I am too fat and lazy not to have a button….

By all means keep me in mind. My mate just got his BMW 650 gs Dakar today off Ebay. Now he’s looking for panniers and some other bits n pieces…
I am dragging the chain a bit… really dont want to take my WR450…..Camerons corner is just too far…

I pm’d you. I would describe fully set up as maybe having saddle bags and possibly already have the suspension beefed up a bit to carry a load?

Thanks go to Bollocks. Very quick off the mark….thanks for the contact details. Spoke to Tamworth Bikes and Bitz? There indeed was a great bmw 650 gs dakar. Matt knew a guy who had one. It sounded great. Spoke to the bike owner. He sold it couple of days ago. It sounded perfect too.
Panniers and rego. Ready to go….Bugger.

Thanks for the info. Do you think the road is interesting enough just sticking to the main track? or is it worth trying to get off the beaten track?

Just my two cents worth but I just stick the number plate in my camelback so its visible through the mesh.
I only ride in the bush anyway.
The rego is mainly for the insurance thing for me.
Both the personal accident bit (the greenslip)(in case you run into another rider)
and the motorbike comprehensive insurance require the rego thing.

If the cops ever did pull me up I guess they might fine me ?

Lost a couple of plates on the old CRF450X.
Easier to keep the plate on my back.

    Anyways, happy days.

Awesome, I look forward to the write up. 4000kmm? that won’t be very far in the future with Camerons Corner coming up…

I certainly like the look of your Tenere all kitted out.
    Fuel economy sounds impressive too.
I’m assuming it’s comfortable as well.

Thanks for posting your opinions mate.

Hey lads. This thread is Music to my ears. Just bought the 2010 WR450 and have 300kms on the clock. Was planning to do a few trips on the new bike. That Camerons corner ride looks good….

    Last bike was 05 CRF 450 X.
Had the Honda since new. Rebuilt top end twice .I think the manual says every 100 hours so thats when I did the first rebuild. $$$$ouch. (I wouldn’t know how many hours it was when I did the second rebuild as the electronics had long ago shat themselves…)

The WR seems a lot smoother ride. It is more powerful out of the box than the Honda was but then again it’s 5 years newer so it should be better.

Seems like all the guys I ride with are team blue. Their bikes never seem to stop.
I was fighting the change and being one of a rare breed of team reds.
Gave in and got the team blue with a free pressure washer and pit tent for $10500 inc GST.

Now my kids and I are all team blue.

    Hey guys
Just happened to notice the snake banter.
I am sitting in my office which is where my kids keep their snakes. We have a banded childrens python, two olive pythons and two other Het (part Albino) Darwin Pythons. Then theres the carpet snake and a few sundry lizards and geckos and the like.

Nothing venemous mind you. Just harmless slithery things. We get them out each night and handle them. Pretty cool once you get used to it. They do have a tendencey to strike at you when they are young and they do draw blood but nothing to worry about. My 14 year old son thinks nothing of it.

On the farm we used to own we always had to move a big carpet snake out of the choook shed. I would grab it behind the head and drag it out and throw it down in the bush. Next day it would be back. It would only eat the eggs not the chooks luckily.

Oh yeah, there was the time we were riding bikes in a group and camping out west. The lead rider ran over a big carpet snake. He stopped and grabbed it (in full motorbike gear and all so feeling invincible).
He took the snake back to camp and released the thing into a tent. Some mate hey…

The snake didn’t like riding on a KTM. It grabbed him a few times before he got back to camp.
    Crazy bastards hey…

That sounds like a good loop. I might have to try and come along one day.
So tell me Nick, are you going to ride the DRZ400 from home to Camerons corner?
I wouldn’t think of riding the blue bike that far.
Possibly trailering it to the good stuff then going from there.
You’re going to have to change the tyres aren’t you?

Rode New Italy with the tin lids a month or so ago. We must be crossing the same tracks sometimes.
It’s a small world. We think we are a few of the only ones that go these places and then find out that they are as common as anything.
One guy told me last week that a couple of guys got fined at New Italy $1000 each. Unregistered bikes and where they weren’t supposed to be.

Hey STM, thanks for that. Now I know sort of where I am at site wise a bit anyway.
I have done a couple of runs from Woolgoolga to Taylors Arms. Ever done that one?
Do you know Todd and Dave from Coffs Trail Tours?
