Sorry for not phoning you yet Steve. I have been flat out with grape harvest which is running 6 weeks later than usual due to the weather conditions and heavy crops, which I hope are all processed (made into wine) by the time our ride begins otherwise things may become even more interesting however we can’t hold the ride up as I am sure plenty of people already have enough headaches… who needs wine…. let our adventure begin!
– HOWEVER –
The beginning of our ride is coming up quick and the number of riders registering for our send-off ride is amazing, much better than what we originally expected. Thanks for the support and encouragement. If you would like to meet with us at Byron Bay on the 14th and 15th of May 2011 be sure to register so that we know how much beer to put on at the Beach Hotel on the Saturday night!

Hi Steve,
Did you not get the details that I forwarded to you? I forwarded you our details the other night via email. I have not got any prices back from you yet on the steering dampers. I will phone you as soon as I get a chance, hopefully later today. We are running with soft luggage although open to suggestions, check out one of our videos –

Hope to speak to you soon.

Thanks for your assistance
March 18, 2011 at 2:16 am in reply to: Ride with us as we start our adventure across Australia #198320We had our suspension modded at MPE, don’t ask me what they did but I was impressed by the results. I have only ridden the Tenere briefly thus far as the bikes are up in Brisbane and I am in SA. The first ride I had of the Tenere was as if it was going to wallow and tank slap all the time and last ride I had which was after MPE worked wonders it handled like it should, much better, stiffer and positive. Like I say, I am not sure what they did as I did not organise for the work to be done but it worked but was not cheap. The bikes even seemed to stand taller which was a problem for me as I am a short arse…. The less head-shake the better in my books.
I will check out Adventure Moto’s details but can you tell me which damper you have?
Thanks,

It needs updating as I have done heaps more I will be posting 20,000 kms on a Tenere in under 12 months

Great read Trailboss, we were looking at fitting steering dampers but have not yet, are they worth the $$$, which would you suggest best for our purpose?
Thanks,

Read about the ride here… http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=604513&highlight=Philth or get the DVD which was filmed by Phil.I am not taking away from what you guys are out to achieve but let’s give credit where credit is due eh fellas!?
The difference is that for most of the way we will not be riding along public, made roads, we are traveling along the 26th parallel as closely as possible once we get to Haddon Cnr other than a ride up to Alice to see the Finke Desert Race and to meet with local icons of the outback.
If you go to our website you can see a copy of our itinerary which is much different to what has been done before by other adventurers.
Phil and Tubboat did a great job of their ride and have a lot of knowledge of the outback to pass on and even though I have not had the chance to meet them personally I believe they are really genuine guys.
They do deserve much respect for the ride they conquered….
March 17, 2011 at 11:07 pm in reply to: Ride with us as we start our adventure across Australia #198307Great looking bike, I would have liked to put an aftermarket pipe on our bikes but unfortunately it is a matter of $$$ which we have little if any spare. We are very thankful to Motorrad Garage and MPE for helping us set our bikes up to the stage that they are at.
Have you been on any long distance rides yet?
March 17, 2011 at 10:44 pm in reply to: Ride with us as we start our adventure across Australia #198303Hey Nickj, I see you have good taste in bikes, I have a DRZ400SM (2006 model) and will be riding one of the three 2010 model Teneres across AU.
What mods have you done to your Tenere?
Cheers,
What was the super tenere like to ride, here I am thinking the 660 is heavy enough…
Yes – GOLD!!!!
So how many of you guys live within traveling distance to our send-off point?
Dusty wrote:Good onya’s for having a crack. It’s the aussie way. If we all worried about what people say we’d never get on a bike or take any risk at all. I’m planning on doing some big trips with the missus on an adventure bike as I get older. Just me and her riding off into the sunset. :cheer:Hey Dusty, like I say in my signature…. let your dreams become adventures which is what we are planning to do as well. I must say that your desires almost sound a little romantic 😆
Thanks for the encouragement guys and looking forward to meeting as many of you at our send-off as possible.

Trailboss wrote:Welcome, you guys are riding the 3 Teneres right? Saw your story on ADV you guys seemed to get a pasting there actually :dry:TB
Yeah true but will the same be happening during our adventure and after our adventure when we start telling people what we achieved during our journey??? I am looking forward to meeting the different communities along the way, seeing the scenery and the beautiful colours of outback Australia and getting to meet and interview some of the riders, drivers and officials of the Finke Desert Race just to mention a few of the many things we have planned.
We are progressively getting some good backing / sponsors behind us which we have worked bloody hard to get with many hundreds of hours posting submissions and speaking to managers, ceo’s etc of many many companies whom we are still seeking.
Our adventure is not going to be easy as we are planning to ride a very different route to what previous adventurers have traveled….. straight across Australia…..
Very open to constructive criticism but please remember before anybody makes senseless criticism; what adventure are you taking on.
Looking forward to the advice that the more experienced riders can give us.
Cheers,
