Glad to here Strucky is OK. Sounded like a nasty off. Get well soon Mate!

All right TB, I’ll make a start on my RR.

I was hoping to leave work at 3 on Friday arvo to make the riders briefing and have a couple of relaxed beers. It was not to be as a major drama with an installation for a colourful Kings Cross “identity” meant I didn’t get away till 5.30, but at least I wasn’t sleeping with the fishes, although it looked close at one stage.

Anyway, all hot and flustered I threw my leg over my new Tenere. The twin Barratts barked in to life and I scorched up the road for all of half a k before the usual traffic snarl slowed me right up. Rose Bay, Double Bay, Harbour Tunnel, Pacific Highway all choked with traffic. The sun beat down, the breathability of my Klim jacket was severely tested as I cooked in my own juices. Finally hit the F3 (or whatever they call it these days) at 7.30. This was going to be a long ride.

But least I was heading up to an OBT ride, the new bike purred along at 120, no problems. A bit of air through the jacket and I was much happier. I was really looking forward to testing the Tenere out and catching up with “another set of your mad mates” as my wife calls OBT’s.

But it WAS a long ride. It got dark and then darker. My gps was showing me all sorts of strange directions to get to Breckenridge. I decided to ignore it try and remember the way from last year. I couldn’t remember wether the turn off was after Taree, before Kempsey, did Kempsey come before Taree or was it the other way round. The Pacific Highway is quite a lonely place in the dark when you have had the day from hell and just want to get where your going. Australia is a BIG country, but finally I saw a sign for Wauchope and knew I must be close.

Finally made it to catch the last minute of the riders briefing and neck in double quick time the six pack I had the foresight to buy on the way.

I was pretty tired and hadn’t even started the ride proper yet!

More to come after I have eaten my dinner

What a belter of a week end.

Thanks to TB and the crew, especially Trailraider and PTW for sweeping my arse, especially the last hour on Sunday.

At least I gave PTW a good belly laugh at my attempt on Jacobs Ladder. Must be on record as the slowest descent ever. Elegant it was not.

    Ride report to follow.

I have been preparing this for the 12hr race at Bathurst next week end and we are testing tomorrow. So work has a priority at the moment. I know that it has nothing to do with the ride but some of you may be interested…….

Hey Usi, what time you leaving?

I’ll be leaving Rose Bay at about 3.

Might see you on the Pacific Highway like last time, except I didn’t know you were an Old Bull then!

Thank you, Your Royal Highness. I’ll do what Eags has suggested and try another Supercheap branch. The local one to me is more of an assisted workshop. The staff can barely speak. And as for the local Bunnings…. Oh Christ, don’t get me started!

    Cheers James

James, I might have to do some family stuff tomorrow, having spent most of the day playing with the new toy.

But we’ll catch up for a ride soon, hopefully with the very studly Eagle, a man so good looking rumour has it he works as a gigolo in the Newcastle area.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black TB. If I am punching above my weight (which clearly I am) then you are up in the stratosphere. Having said that I haven’t always been bald and 53.

Anyway, back to more important matters.

Picked up my reworked Tenere from TB today and to say I am a happy camper is an understatement.

I have spent most of the afternoon ripping around the trails near home (short loop around Garigal national Park) and then on the twisty blacktop out to West Head and back through Akuna Bay.

Two things became immediately apparent. The suspension is fantastic and well worth getting done. A big thanks to Nick at Teknik for fitting me in at short notice. It is so smooth through stroke and the bike is not trying top spit you off all the time.

Secondly, the Barratt twin pipe enables the bike to pull from much lower down in the rev range. Riding back from Tamworth with the standard pipe the bike was not very happy at 3k and under. It seemed to lug a bit and you had to work the box a lot more. Now it pulls like a train and keeps going. I even noticed that the top end was much better, in that in will pull quite hard from 110k to 130. Not quite like the Tiger obviously, but pretty good for a single. Thanks to Jason also for getting the pipe to Nick. (This is starting to sound like an infomercial).

And did I mention the sound of that thing. Oh my good lord it sounds good!

So all in all well happy with the bike. It had a tall screen on it which I have taken off and reverted to the original and it is actually more comfortable with less buffeting. A centre stand, heated grips and some power outlets and she’ll be finished.

Big thankyou to TB, who co-ordinated the work by Jason and Nick. Looking forward to next week end mate!

Now, as I might have mentioned before. Tiger 800XC for sale. Lightly used, always garaged, never dropped (ahem) blah blah blah……
