I am so bloody jealous…..
But I’ll be on the next one. Amazing what industrial quantities of cortisone can do to an ageing body. Arm is coming good, almost tempted to risk it….
Have a great and safe everyone, looking forward to the ride reports.

I’m out of this ride.
Gutted, but at the moment I’ve got Carpal tunnel so bad in my right arm particularly, I can barely ride to work at the moment, let alone do two days of a nav ride.
I was hoping it would come good but with a week and a bit to go I’m making an early call so someone else can jump in.
Will have it sorted for the next ride though, even if it means amputation.

Another great week end away.
Met Katgirl for the first time and the world shrunk a bit further when we realized we had mutual sailing friends in common.
Smaller group than usual but non stop laughs on Saturday night. One of Eagle’s cousins shat in his drink. A good shot from at least ten metres. It was probably good that the pub closed early as I had just settled in to the first rum and coke of the evening after several beers, and could feel a rum thirst coming on…….
But with no fire to sit around it was off to bed. Well, for some. Tryhard, the master planner that he obviously is, had neglected to bring a tent, sleeping bag or sleeping mat. Now I have heard of travelling light but really….
Anyway, off he went in to the night. “no worries, I reckon I’ll be just under if I blow”. Yeh right, hope you got home safe mate.
So it was Katgirl, Mr Squiggle, James, Eagle and The Glazier (think about it James) that headed off for a really good morning ride up through Yengo and on onwards. All pretty cruisy riding compared to the usual OBT fare, apart from the pace that Katgirl was setting. What is it about women on motorbikes? Why are they all faster than me? Is it because I get all misty eyed at Toy Story 3? Is it because I can’t bear to watch Marley and me? Or is it that as a motorcyclist I make a great rugby player?
We don’t know.
What we do know is that James is improving rapidly as he motored past me several times like I was standing still. Perhaps not the greatest yardstick of off road riding ability, but even so. My excuse was that I had a bad attack of Carpal Tunnel (no, it’s not a sexually transmitted disease, perhaps something you might pick up at the Mardi Gras) making it difficult to grip the bars properly. Yes, I know that is a particularly lame excuse, I promise to think of a better one for the December nav ride.
I tarred it back to Sydney to arrive early and accrue many brownie points with wife and child. I even had the energy to take my boy out for a footy training session and to put the chicken in the oven. (I didn’t dish it up though. There has to be a line in the sand somewhere.) This was in stark contrast to my usual return from an OBT’s ride where I normally slump straight in to bed, groaning with pain.
Thanks to Eagle, Mr Squiggle, James and Katgirl for the company. Another top week end amongst great people!

After a prick of a week at work I’m also hanging for a beer and a ride.
I was actually cold on the bike riding to work this morning. The mesh jacket didn’t help!
What is going on with this weather? Glad you blokes escaped the fires. Scary stuff.
See you tomorrow.
Wigster
I hope all you guys are OK up in the Hunter and Blue Mountains. Must have been majorly scary for a while (though you sounded pretty relaxed when I spoke to you yesterday TB).
Conditions easing a bit today but still no RAIN.
If we are not riding this week end due to the fires I’ve got the week end off any way, so if any one needs a hand ferrying stuff about I’ve got a couple of utes available (though I can only drive one at a time!)
Give me a shout.

All good for me to go for the Sat night. Will have to miss the Sunday ride though. Look forward to catching up with the Bulls and having a few ales.
Let me know where and when for the ride down Eags??
Light beer only for you Ace, if you are not doing Sunday’s ride. (perhaps it should be the other way round).

Jochen Lindt – The only driver to ever be awarded a championship after his unfortunate death :S
Quite a legend amongst the F1 community apparently.Well done Eags, indeed he was and still is, the only F1 driver to win the championship posthumously.
I got his autograph in ’72 at the British Grand Prix (I was 12). I think he was killed a couple of weeks later.
My Dad was heavily involved in sponsorship of motor racing at the time so we got pit passes to a lot of events. It was fantastic to be able to wander past Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart etc. I’ll bet you wouldn’t be allowed to do that now.
I’ve got a photo somewhere of my old man presenting the winners trophy and garland to the winner of a formula 3 event in the early ’70’s. The young man in question…..James Hunt.
Must see that new film about him and Lauda.

I was at Bathurst two years ago, it was absolutely ball tearingly freezing. Looks a bit warmer today.
I bit of motor racing trivia of mine. I’ve got Jochen Rindt’s autograph. Who? Google it!
Lefty, you should know this one.

I’m in. Don’t forget the batteries PTW.

September 24, 2013 at 11:01 am in reply to: The Peats Ridge One Day sort of navigation ride 2013 #250015I decided to turn the one day nav ride in to a two dayer by having a cruisy run up through St Albans to Buckety on Saturday afternoon. It was very relaxing and a complete contrast to the lunacy I knew would be taking place on Sunday.
The opportunity to camp out with the senior OBT’s was too good to miss. Usi and I enjoyed one of the funniest nights in the company of TB, PTW and Lefty. The banter flowed and PTW showed us his amazing dexterity by taking most of the evening to undo a packet of batteries. I think there might be video evidence of the last three minutes. TB got confused trying to order a liver and pineapple pizza and ended up with some spring rolls. The Old Bulls stove was cranked up to provide enough energy to power a small city. And the Knights won (but they won’t beat the Roosters).
So all were up like spring chickens at sparrows fart to commence the ride. A slight technical hitch meant this was going to be a cornerman ride, which worked really well compared to some I’ve been on in the past where riders have been stretched out over 50k. The small group helped and initially the pace was not too hot.
Unlike the past nav rides, where TB springs a horrible surprise in the first 10k to get your fear factor right up there, the first sections were fast gravel tracks. Great riding and where the Tiger is right at home. I was cracking a reasonable pace (for me) and felt pretty good about life and in particular adventure riding.
Wolfy had a nasty off just as we were waiting for someone to come a cropper in the bog hole. I think I even saw TB break in to a trot to go and help, but if there’s no video, it didn’t happen, so I can’t be sure. Hope your leg is OK Wolfy.
As the morning wore on it got snottier and snottier. No major drama’s for me so far and I was probably a little bit over confident at this stage. I had been having a great time splashing through the centre of all the big puddles, like the big kid my wife says I still am.
One pothole was not shaped like the others though. It was about 1.5 metres long and had a really nasty vertical face to the end of it. A fact I only noticed when I was committed to going through it at about 80K.
The front wheel hit and basically stopped dead. I was immediately smashed in the face by my bar mounted Garmin GPS. Then the seat decided it was going to get in to the action and punted me up the clacker with such velocity that it lifted me right off the pegs. For a moment, as I hung in the air above the bike, I was sure I was going right over the bars, like that dude on you tube in “Dakar motorbike crashes”.
But the bike caught me up and I crashed back down, narrowly missing landing on my testicles (now that would have hurt!)
I must admit I was a bit stunned and was pretty sure I had broken my nose and buggered the front wheel. (In fact I had done neither.) I rolled on for a bit expecting the tyre to be flat, but no, it kept turning. Then I started to see funny shapes and lots of pretty colours and could feel the blood dripping down my chin, so I thought I had better stop and sort myself out.
I pulled over and dismounted but the patch of ground I was standing on kept moving around, so I had to sit on it to keep it still. There was a bit of claret but it was Lefty to the rescue with some concerned words, some water and a towel for me to clean myself up. Thanks Mate!
No real damage though. A bloody nose and a few loose teeth, which should tighten up this week (I hope so, I haven’t got many of my own left. They seem to be going the same way as my hair).
Amazingly there was no damage to the rim. Those Excel things are damn good!
Anyway it was back on the horse. And before long were in to some single track. I had an interesting time squeezing between the trees and the fence line with the Tigers fat arse (panniers are not a good idea when the track is only a foot wide). We came across a rock garden with a short steep hill at the end of it. The WR 250 had just cartwheeled backwards down it. Oh Lord, I’m never going to get over and up that! But a quick pre inspection and the removal of some of the bigger rocks (I wasn’t the only one so I don’t consider it cheating!) meant it wasn’t as bad as it first looked. Lefty and PTW came over last and showed us how it should be done.
Then lunch at the Night at the Museum Hotel. The excellent chicken schnitzel tested out the loose teeth. No drama’s, they all stayed put.
The afternoon was an absolute ripper. There were quite a few arse puckering moments on some steep rutted out downhills. Mine and the Tigers least favourite terrain. Some seriously tight bush bashing and some very muddy and snotty track. The blast over the Watagans on good gravel was the icing on the cake, though the fourbys coming the other way made for yet more puckeridge.
Well what can I say, another great ride. Well done to Chicken for being out there after his back problems. I’ve got to admire his balls (maybe later). Thanks to everyone who came and made it a great ride. But most of all thanks to TB, PTW and Lefty for the entertainment on Saturday night. That’s Gold!
Can’t wait for the next one!

The best bit was Pete the Wulf demonstrating his amazing Rubiks cube training programme. So THAT’S how you open a packet of batteries!
RR soon. How’s your ankle Wolfy? You were supposed to crash in the mud hole, not 20 metres before it.

Hope Lefty posts that video of Pete trying to open the batteries   It went for 3 mins and the really funny thing is the video started after about 3 mins had already passed
How is the nose Wiggy  Tough as nails old cheese
Wolfy will have X rays tomorrow :pinch:
TB
Nose is fine, perhaps a tad tender. I was once punched flush on the bugle by a 20 stone Cornish trawlerman who was protecting the honour of his town (it was supposed to be a game of rugby) so compared to that it was a mere flea bite.
Wolfy should invest in his own X ray machine. He would probably save money.

Caddyshack. Greatest movie ever. TB, in a certain light, looks a bit like Rodney Dangerfield.
