Eagle you left out; “Lucky it wasn’t a BMW because no-one makes a decent radiator guard yet”.
I am still annoyed about punching a hole in mine soon after I got the bike, and all because no strong guard is available for it.
Mal, if Donna is keen we could all finish up having afternoon tea at Tuggerah Westfield together after the ride? Depends what Westfield you are talking about, maybe it’s easier to meet her at Pie in the Sky and she can shop before or after?
Dan, be positive and firm, we need you on this ride.
Kylie, pillion pegs are not appropriate on motard bikes.
All just thoughts running off my head….

Mate, you should take it for a little spin on some dirt and some gravel to get an idea of what it’s like, that little bit of experience could well be invaluable in an emergency situation on a road ride.
As for motard ride etiquette, I think we can use our experience on the Pie in the Sky ride to come up with some sort of protocol we can follow in the future. It will be a good opportunity I think.
Normally on the road I ride with the same respect and safety in mind as when I drive a car but I cant help being partial towards other riders. I hope those who ride with me do the same.I was not intending to have vests or corner persons on the ride, and no rules except for the road rules however, I will be briefing the riders at the start and each subsequent stop/re-gathering to make sure we know where we are going and who to follow, there will only be one ‘fast section’ and I have already thought about where and when to stop and update everyone so there will be no lost riders.
Mobile phones will also be usefull if there are any problems, we will have to make sure we all have each others numbers before we start off, that seems like a must for the new etiquette.Notice I got all politically correct?
Can you ask them if they can do black chrome please Moto?
It’s very hard to find anyone who can do it.I would go the sheep skin until you can get it done professionally.
Might be hard finding a yellow and blue sheep skin though :silly:
Hitchcocks is a bastard to get up, good luck.
Tunks is easy to get down, tricky going up but not as bad as Hitches.
I haven’t been on either for 12 months or so, conditions are probably worse now.OK the 9th it is.
Added Mal to the list and edited the date in the original post.
At this stage I think we will meet at my place, I will PM the details closer to the day.Interesting, I just Googled myself and it seems I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Amsterdam University.
Paul Pennings Prof.OK no worries, what date?
Heads up anyone interested – I have confirmed the date and made other slight changes to the original post.
Please read again the first post and let me know if you want to join the ride, no limit to the number of ridersYes great idea Eagle.
I have been tempted to do a toy run before, now I will have no excuse not toI looked into it for myself but the problem was that although laser surgery may correct my vision, my script is always changing every 2-3 years this will continue after the surgery so in about 5-10 years I would need glasses again, or another laser surgery.
So I didn’t bother.
I wasn’t taking it as disrespect to BMW, but point is a good one.
Personally I think if I was concerned that the serviceing needed to be done by the book, I’d be better off trading the bike in for a new one at 70hrs.
I wonder, if I did that would BMW do the 70hr before re-selling the bike?I haven’t done the bearings yet, I’ll get around to it soon though.
The 16th TB.
Thats way earlier than expectedbut I expect you wont be doing any wheelies.
Well my Beemer is still going well at 140hrs and 6500Km and I never had the 70hr ‘service’ done.
Just a couple of bearings on the idler gear that need replacing now but that is not serious.TB, there was no ‘fine print’ you just needed to read the owners hand book, then load the CD manual onto a computer and read what it says to do for ‘service the engine’, it’s all there.
I did look at the hand book but didnt ask to look at the CD before I bought the bike.I also priced some parts like oil filter and brake pads before I bought the bike, brake pads have since gone up by $33 so they are now $120 for originals, but the originals have lasted a full year, 6500Km and a fair few muddy rides.
BMW says the work should be done by a specialist workshop, this is true because of all the special tools required, I expect only a BMW workshop will have them.
The dealer knows I haven’t done the 70hr and says the bike is still covered by warranty, just not any problems caused by not doing the 70hr service.
