First up Ollie, I would get one with a built in battery, the vibration on bikes causes shut down problems in units which take disposable batteries.

Then decide if you want colour or B&W maps, I recomend colour for more detail.

Also do you want the ability to load non OEM maps?

I have a Garmin GPS60, a basic model with B&W screen and no maps, just trail and POI map like screen. I really only use it on the boat now, but it came with the Garmin mapping software which is very handy for recording the tracklogs and viewing them on Google Earth etc.
The 60 series dont have a strong reliable bkie mount bracket unless you go for an expensive aftermarket one.

My other unit is the Garmin Quest (not Quest 2), it has built in battery, water proof, colour maps, talks to you and computer, loads non Garmin maps if you want can plan off road routes using your own waypoints (point to point) and has handled being on my DRZ quite well with the motorcycle mount.
Note the Quest 2 does not have the ability to load non Garmin maps.
Only problem with the Quest is the small screen size.

Note 2 the Quest has been replaced by the Nuvi 500.

Get yourself out to Mona Vale and talk to Brian at

GPS OZ he is very helpfull.

Also, I have read on ADVrider that the colour magellan units have slightly better off road detail in their maps.

I have the MSC damper too and very happy with it.
For the BMW it is an under bar mount which replaces the original bar mounts but you loose the bar position adjustability, it’s the same as the centre mounting holes.

The whole setup is good and adjustable easily on the fly.

Two other good things, MSC are a local company at Mangrove Mtn, and they service the dampoer every year for free, you just send it in to them.

I cant find their website but Call Mark or Simone on 02 43741655

    “kit-up” – “jeans, trainers and a hoody”

Thats phooly not sik Moto – you should know better.

Good to get out and have fun though.

I once went riding on Fraser Island with a mate, we both had new knobbies but no steering dampers but you learn quickly to sit way back and steer it like a boat with the engine revving away.
My little XR270 handled it well especially on the hard open beach but the inland tracks were continuous hard work, soft sand and you cant get enough speed to plane over it, you just have to plough along in the 4WD trenches.

Looking back it was a fun day but I wont do it again

    Good job Eagle, very nice.
You can buy the taper clamps for Bark Busters seperately but I dont know about the other brands if they’re not real Bark Busters.

It will be like a new bike again after the old bent bars and standing up will be much better too.

I reckon they’ll be a real contender in the market over the next few years, alot will depend on how they market the bike. I think it looks to plain for a lot of people.

Like the KTM look or not it’s a big part of the reason they sell so many bikes, BMW and all the other manufacturere need to take a leaf out of their book in my opinion (from the marketing asthetics side I mean).

    I dont know Moto.
The Yamahas look real plain to me but there is a lot of them getting around.
Do you mean ‘marketing strategy’ or the bold new graphics on the bike?

Ha,ha G’day young fella and welcome to the forum.

I remember being an 18yr old apprentice sparky, just, and I used to ride my XL250s to work.
I still dont know how I survived that for 6 months, only ever fell off that bike once :cheer:

We have a fair few members in your area and the Central Coast (I am just near Wyong) so you wont have trouble finding people to ride with.
We are a friendly lot too despite the shananagans that go on here sometimes – most of the time, when you actually meet the members you will see what I mean.

Keep an eye on the Ride Gatherings section and something will come up that suits you, or if you feel confident – organise one yourself, interested members will help you there too.

    Cheers.

Mal it looks like you need to join a Union to help get your priorities right.
I suggest working Monday and Thursdays so you get a couple of breaks between rides and Tue & Wed can be used for maintenance & cleaning the bike etc.

    An email arrived;

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2009 when…

    1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2 You haven’t played solitaire with real cards in years.

    3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

    4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

    5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don’t have e-mail addresses.

    6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

    7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

    8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn’t have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10.. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

    11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12 You’re reading this and nodding and laughing.

    13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

    14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

    15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn’t a #9 on this list

AND NOW YOU ARE LAUGHING at yourself.
