Back on topic, does anyone use a pressure washer to wash their moto boots?

Yep, I spray ’em with CT18 then hit ’em with the gun.

The subject title has been altered :)

Kylie; please dont try this on public roads (not that you would) there are oil slicks and inconsistent road surfaces which make this very dangerous – we need to organise a track day and we can put the DRZ up against the motarded beemer :woohoo:

Boony, steel will last but an alloy sprocket will weigh 60% less, I have weighed them.
Look at the DID X-ring chain too, they have a fair bit less resistance to movement, and they come in gold colour which really suits the DRZ.

Welcome Silver_STR you’ve come to the right place, ADVrider is a good forum but this one is much more suited to finding local rides and the members are happy to help out with any questions or issues you might have.
We have a few members in your area so if you get keen for a ride post up an expression of interest in the “organise a ride” section, ‘Central NSW rides’.
I am sure someone will be happy to lead for you.
I might even venture up that way one day, I believe you have some excellent riding areas there, I have only ridden a few Trials comps in the New England area in years gone by.

    Cheers, Beemer.

Do you get a run on it since you have a BMW?

    Mate!
You have to be part of the elite yachting royalty to even get on board it at the dock.
This is the Yanks latest boat for the next Americas Cup.

I’m uploading a very inspirational video for all the DRZ lovers (I am still one).
Check the Suzuki forum tomorow, it will take a while to load up.

On the issue of pillion pegs Kylie if you look at the bike about you can see it’s got em. The DRZ400S and SM both come standard with pillion pegs but have brackets on the rear subframe for them to bolt to. If ya could find a set of the pegs and ya know someone who is handy welding aluminium shoundn’t be to hard to fit a set.

Have ya looked at the DRZ forum on TT, http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=25, guys on here are a bit of SM action, or is it S&M,

    The Pic above is
You cannot tell if it was an E, SM (it has the USD forks) or an S (it has the steel tank).
I do remember reading on TT that the S and SM had pillion pegs and they have extra lugs welded to the subframe.
If you want to do a good job with this project take a bit of time and do it right, you might have to look for a straight subframe off one of the other models.
If you get the lugs welded on the subframe will need to be anodised again to look neat.

The springs are soft on the DRZ so you will at least need to wind up the rear a lot for 2 up. Thats a hassle on the DRZ even with a C spanner.

I’m not a mechanic but I’m thinking if oil did run into the airbox and sortof coated the inside of the carb, then it could take a while for it all to get sucked through and stop smoking, like TB said about the KTM which smoked for an hour.

Can you get hold of a compression tester?

I agree with Jeffro and TB.
But I do add a grease nipple to the steering head and fill it up with grease.
After each wash I immediately grease all the nipples :cheer: so as to push out any water/dirt that may have gotten in (there’s only 3 grease points on the beemer).

But they don’t appear to come in yellow any more. :(

I’m sure you will sort it out!

    Cheers!

    ECKS

I had a yellow one of these on my DRZ.
They look good and weigh a lot less but they dont work so well and water gets in when you wash the bike and pops the globe when it splashed around .

I know the DR is only a 400 but it’s going to have the bling factor so that will make up for it.

Oh man you can spend some money on a DRZ, I did.
Ballards have nice wheel kits for the motard setup, just choose the colour you want.
ThumperTalk.com for heaps more other stuff.

One thing I do recomend is a manual cam chain tensioner to replace the auto one that’s probably still on it, the auto ones tend to stretch the chain prematurely.

I am pretty sure you can get the workshop manual on CD at FleaBay for a good price.

Yeah that boat would be worth who knows how many 10’s of million$.
If one of those stays snapped or something jamms and it flips over…
    Pretty unlikely though.
