How are you finding the seat? I sat on one the other night and it leaves my original GasGas 07 seat for dead as the hardest plank…

Better than I was expecting, just as good as the seat of the old DRZ.
The “lounge chair” feel of the DRZ is from the suspension and dead weight, not the seat being soft.

I dont know about engine mapping but, it comes with a “power chip” which is just a plug with a wire loop (bridge) that gives the full 51hp, without it out hp drops by 10.
BJ and I have cut the loop and extended the wire so we have a switch on the bars for rabbit or tortise modes which will be handy in the wet so the bike can be tamed for the conditions.

The electronics seem to be all sealed black boxes so I don’t know whats possible for tweaking but also think there is no need with the 14t front sprocket on.
This bike was after all, designed for enduro racing and is pretty much ready for that out of the box.

Exactly yes, that’s why it’s so good.

Actually I have very fond memories of my XR270

I plan on giving my honest opinion and thoughts and am looking forward to using the electric leg and working out am I really missing out. I have just picked the CRF450 and will give them both a service and some setup on Choppers.

    So,,,

    What’s the verdict?
I had trouble choosing between red and blue so I went white & black.

In hind sight, here is a small bitch… The LCD speedo is Grey back ground with black numbers, which to my aging eyes a bit hard to see in a quick glance. I think the KTM orange background with black numbers on the 530 is easier to see.
I know it is nit picking but it is just my thoughts as an old bull.

The back light colour of the speedo can be varied from red > orange > yellow but you dont really see it in daylight + it goes off when the bike goes to sleep (15 secs).

Hey Wikd, have you got your bar risers in the forward position or the back holes? The two bikes were set up differently and I prefered the back position of the bars.

    Yes the forward pos.
I am tall and it’s best for me.

Yeah 140kmh on a long straight, private access road.

Did the over-rev warning come on?
Apparently if you sit at 120K/h for 10 secs after the warning comes up it gets logged in the EFI computer and when BMW plug in to the bike they know you’ve abused the bike and warranty gets voided.

The std 15 tooth front sprocket is too big for single track, better with the 14 and the bike is torquier off the throttle, much nicer :P

Hey Wikd, nice bike I like the look of them alot, bit of a change from the zooki I’d say too.

    Thanks Blue.
It is a good one and like comparing apples and bananas with respect to my faithfull DRZ.
This bike is almost perfectly setup out of the box, just add bashplate, rad protection, handguards and well, that’s about it.
BMW certainly do things differently from the others and I must say that so far it is all good.

2 years (unlimited Km) warranty is what really sold it to me.

The rear suspension setup is very good, climbs sh!tty hills easily and doesn’t seem to bottom out at all yet.
I’ve also heard the bike wheelies very nicely too with even progress to the balance point.

It will be interesting to see what Husky produce in the future now they are owned by BMW, watch that space…

    Me too.
I have met people who have had trouble with BMW and equally as many who swear by them in the highest regard.
    Me? dunno yet…..
