    hi mal.

    my pennies worth.

i tested an 06 250 recently. for a small bike it impressed me. i weigh more than the bike.

i own a 02 640, had a 03 300. my mate that rode it as well, at that stage the mate was going to buy a 450, but admitted the 250 was a surprising package. he has a 2t 360 in the shop and had a ktm 300 before that.

i would like to ride a 310 but that is purely to see what ti was like.

i’d say the 450 and 510 would be a good bike if they were only a few kg’s more than the 250.

as for engine, frame etc. durability i have no experience.

anyway as i said it’s only a pennies worth.

some of the experiences he told of fixing stuff etc. are an eye opener!!!

As far as the thread goes heres my thoughts

As such I am a tradesman, have owned my own business, run workshops and been the manager for a few large companies.

I like you hate paying for what I feel is incompetent trades people. I suggest if you feel you can do it better yourself, do it yourself, if you can get it cheaper elsewhere go there first.

I live my life by those rules, but there are some great trades people out there that care and try for their customers.

    TB

    yep 2nd that. TB

i forgot, i was borne post decimal so i get paid in dollars.:P :P :P

yeah what sucks more is some people’s attitude.

i mentioned to menace that i’m fed up with being branded as lazy.

and that when i mention money is tight they seem to think you expect a hand out.
    not simply some understanding.

    Yeah sure TB, nothing.

i’m on the disability support pension.

i got unloaded from a ct 125 mustering sheep at my first full time job at 17:(

yes no helmet, i did not know i was riding that day until i turned up for work. but on reflection i don’t think i owned a helmet at that time. boss didn’t offer on either.

left me with brain injury/ damage= i suffer from constant headaches and migraines. and more recently was diagnosed with sleep apnoea/ apnea depending on which dictionary you use.

as i’ve said in other threads/posts i’m grateful to those who do pay taxes!

and any mention of my income is for understanding not sympathy.;)

The Bottom line is that it is a supply and demand situation, if we need the supply they demand shitloads of money.

as i said earlier they react like your a cheapskate, but when their rate is 3-4 times what you earn well you have to ask your self if it needs to be done immediately.

when you say you can do it yourself, it’s as if you’re offending them when you decline them the privilege of taking your money.

i live in a town of about 6500, and 1-2 1/2hrs drive from bigger towns/cities.

some of the business owners get offended when you mention that you can get it up to 1/3 cheaper out of town.

one guy was getting parts from another shop and always asked for their best price, he got some discounts. however when the parts guy asked the other one for a discount at his business, he got none.

so the parts guy no longer discounts for the other one.

i told the guy i get my car parts from who is doing me Great deals, not to undercut himself too much. as some parts have been up to $70 less than the competition

i said to him if they only realised that they only need to be able to bring their prices to within $50 + what it would cost to travel to get it. ( if that makes any sense:blush: )

= if item is 1000 in town, you can get it from out of town for 750 but cost 100 to go get it,

in town only need to come down to 875-900 and you would shop in town. simple.

so by my calculations if 1 mechanic dose 5hrs a day, 5 days a week

that’s $875 per week (worker’s pay deducted) for the boss/owner gets just for what? not quite nothing but close enough to it at some places.

so if the shop operates for 5 days a week for 45 weeks a year, 1 mechanic has earned the boss $39 375.00. so multiply that by each mechanic in the workshop.

AND then there is the 32% plus, mark up on all the parts/ consumables they put on/into your bike/car etc.

oh the above was worked out at $70/h charged and $35/h pay for the worker.

    yeah murph,

i don’t mind paying a bit extra for a guy that really knows his stuff! and can shorten the stay of your bike in his shop= it has a problem you simply cannot identify or fix. he has the know how to do it in the quickest time reasonable. without compromising/ corner cutting.
