Just wondering if anyone has a good way, or utensils for cleaning all the crap (lube n dirt) out off your rear hub from ride to ride without pulling the weel and sprocket off all the time.
Cheers Teza.May 3, 2013 at 10:09 am #241021I just use a 2 inch paintbrush in the area after I have sprayed the bike with CT20 (Truckwash)
Gets it looking clean pretty quick Tez

May 3, 2013 at 12:26 pm #241023CT 18 and one of those mag wheel brushes if its filthy enough, normally the truck wash cleans them off pretty good by itself. That’s on the rough cast husky hubs.
May 3, 2013 at 1:05 pm #241034Ben doing a resto on the RMX and she had about 10 years of built up grime dirt and lube on the castings
I let it soak with a High strentgh hit of CT18 then I give it a go with cheapo “5 star” mag wheel cleaner and got into it with a stiff Nylon brush. I then hit it with my little hand held steam cleaner and they come up pretty good. Lot of work tho :SOllie
May 3, 2013 at 10:07 pm #241036Not worth doing IMO

CT18 cleans it good enough
Cheers
MurphMay 3, 2013 at 10:34 pm #241024Tie a bit of old shoe lace around the hub and it will get cleaned as you ride along  it used to work on the old dragster anyway.

Cheers Teza.May 6, 2013 at 9:46 am #241073You can buy a product from any welding supplies trade shop or Supershit Auto sells it, it is called Aluminum Cleaner or Brightener, it is water soluble and brings mill or cast finish aluminum up like brand new, it is quite strong so be mindful of eye protection and gloves. It can react with some cheap Aluminum so try it on a inconspicuous spot first and you only need to leave it on for no more than one minute and hose it off with water. I have been using this stuff for 15 years as a metal fabricator and on all my bikes and its good stuff
May 6, 2013 at 10:13 am #241027I run a cable tie on my hubs, similar to the shoe lace thing, makes the hubs lovely
