April 8, 2010 at 10:37 am #175535First day done and dusted.
While the tracks themselves were not hard on a normal days trail riding the fact that you never really got a break from the hills or singles made it very taxing on the body and mind.
I was extremely nervous this morning to the point I nearly spewed in my helmet. I also came of the bike in the first 10min. Just had a brain fade going through a large puddle at around 60km/h. Busted the right hand guard and tore off the valve on my hydration pack and then dumped all my water on my leg.
I then binned it again on my own special test after seeing Gotchya and saying hi. Not your fault Gotchya, it was another brain fade.
There was one mother of a hill that I have done a few times on trail rides, but not with 20 other bikes all trying to get up at the same time and as fast as they can. I spent 20min on the hill after hitting t he wall pretty hard. I had a good hard chat to myself and finished the hill.
I started to calm down a bit and just set a comfortable rhythm and forgot about my minute and concentrated on finishing the day. Medogrocket caught up to me after having a flat and we sort of stayed together for the rest of the day. I really enjoyed the afternoon riding with a good mate in the A4DE. Thanks Tim.
My service team of Donna and TB were just champions all day. I came into the first control with nearly man tears and shaking. These guys calmed me down sorted all my issues with hydration and hand guards. They were always there and had heaps of words of encouragement. It was easy to find my crew as TB would jump up and down in the middle of the track.
All up it was a hard day and I just made it in before my hour was up and now I’m aching all over.
Ready for tomorrow now. :woohoo:
April 8, 2010 at 10:49 am #175537Epic reports by all concerned.
If this sort of quality journalism continues I will be able to cancel my magazine subscriptions.

Quote:TB also reported that Medogrocket was last seen leaning over his bike after the final stage looking very “busted arse” and not too keen to continue on.You were close TB, I had my head down because my crew just told me that the last special was closed due to a crash, very disappointing

Day 2 Schedule is up,,,,,
April 8, 2010 at 11:22 pm #175555Mal5.1 almost DNF’ed before today had begun, something had gone amiss with the throttle and his slide in the carby appeared to be not working, so he failed the cold start test. With only seconds to go, before the sweeps where to head out they handed his card in. TB waved his magic wand by twisting the throttle back and forth violently and the slide freed itself and the bike started 2nd kick so they grabbed his card back and Mal took of just before the sweeps.
So both Mal and Medogrocket got away this morning. More updates during the day.

go hard boys
April 9, 2010 at 1:42 am #175590Can anyone give a summary about what the cold start test is other than the obvious?
April 9, 2010 at 1:58 am #175597
AnonymousYou just start each day with your bike off, it’s not allowed to be started before hand. Most of the decent boys will have their bikes starting first kick.
I remember last years it was impressive to see so many bikes starting after the chilly night they had endured. I also remember some people struglling with it big style.
You have to cross the start line within a certain amount of time once you been told to start or you pick up time penalties

You will get time penalties for failing the cold start test but if you push your bike the first 20m you will not incur penalties for the distance part as well.
