AnonymousYes, I know, we saw a couple of blokes pushing their bikes down the road, we were laughing and taking pictures
April 9, 2010 at 2:56 am #175602Unfortunately it pains me to report that Mal’s Throttle problem has come back and it appears that it was a throttle cable problem (new cable bought for the event) Subsequently the problem has caused Mal to DNF…… so his A4DE is basically over.

Bad luck Mal.
April 9, 2010 at 2:58 am #175603Awww crap! Man that must be hard to face, bad luck Mal and crew you deserved better guys

AnonymousGeez, Mal even changed to a new throttle cable as he had concerns about the original, apparently they are very thin.
That well and truly sucks. Still at least you can sit back and enjoy it now Mal, you can still look forward to the final moto as well, that always looks fun.
April 9, 2010 at 3:37 am #175605Similar to the KTM guys at Baja this year. They fitted an aftermarket stator sourced from a reputable company to handle the increased draw from the lights and it failed.
“We needed a bigger stator than the stock KTM 530 XCW stator to power the large lights required for the late night riding, but ours purchased through Ricky Stator in the USA failed when the solder broke on the wiring, stopping the bike at the 242 mile mark – ending our Baja ride with major disappointment,” said Williscroft(team manager).
“When we pulled the bike down to determine the problem, our disappointment intensified when we found it wasn’t mechanical, but rather the solder had broke on the wiring of the stator purchased through Ricky Stator in the USA. We needed a larger stator to the standard one on the KTM 530 XCW to support the larger lights required for night riding, but this one recommended let us down. “

AnonymousI don’t think the cable was an aftermarket one, just a new one to replace the original used one, I guess with the idea that it’s less likely to cause a problem having not been used.

Rum time
April 9, 2010 at 6:12 am #175610Still a top effort Mal, it was mechanical failure out of your hands, not rider error or lack of Prep or teamwork or any such other human issue.
You did well, and go go go To the other two lads still going.
