As you all know I bought myself a BRP for adventure type riding and for the longer trail rides. I got a really good deal on a 2002 Model (late 01 Build) XR650R I paid $3000 and it came with a spare set of wheels with new Pirelli road rubber.
The bike had 20000 kms on it but these donks are renowned for their longevity so not really an issue for me.I did however fit a stainless steel re-usable Oil filter and used Penrite HPR15 gas Oil. Anyway here are some photies of the build. I have also purchased a Clarke 16 litre tank and will get a new top triple clamp and fat bars to improve the steering. A Unibiker rad guard was also fitted, great protection but a prick to fit.
Ollie
Outlaw 1.6 Bar High Pressure Rad cap needed on the BRP
B&B bash plate from Ebay $65 yipee!!
Adjusted the valves while I had the tank off to fit the UNIBIKER rad guards
Checked and loctited the shit front Bolt of the RH footpeg and greased the Kick starter
Heated grips come in handy at Capertee
Wezmoto braided brake lines
torpedo 7 forged rimlocks are unreal
stealth 48 tooth rear and renthal 14 tooth front sprocket matched to a new EK oring chain
New Sintered front brake pads also fit the Gasser
Quality EBC O/sdisk bracket nice Bling
check the difference from standard to o/s
all fitted up and a plug for a sponsor lol
New retreads front and rear and 280 mm oversize Disk (standard 240mm WTF)
tyre slime and UHD Michelin tubes a good mix for the Turon river RD
Wiring needed some tidying up
Hour meter fitted to help with service intervals
Under gaurd wiring took me all night to sort out but worth it in the end.The standard rear tailight assembly weighs close to 5 KGS !
Twin air filter and a oiled chuck kept the filtration duties up
Feel the serenity Suny corner camp site
It was quite here except Kram was on one side and Tiny the other !!
And a couple More
Bike came with the Barrett Pipe
Devol rear disk Guard better than the standard plastic POS
I put in some standby clutch and throttle cables
shiny back wheel mxretread and wezmoto braided brake line
June 5, 2011 at 5:47 pm #202699No wonder you got it so cheap. It hasn’t got any rocker covers!!
No seriously Ollie, a great bike for the price!! A set of fat bars with 20mm risers and it will make a world of difference.

June 6, 2011 at 9:11 pm #202768nice work Ollie….
you have always been forward at going backwards

too many fingers to be yours mate
June 6, 2011 at 9:40 pm #202770Yes the work is nice Ollie.
But the jury is still out on your choice of bike.
June 6, 2011 at 10:02 pm #202704Like I said at the BD ride its nice bike mate you now have the best of both
The offer for a setup day you were interested in still stands. I have a 17 litre tank which if setup geared and ridden easy will get 200 kays but thats it. If you come across a 30 grab it, they are ok to ride with adventure anyway and can give you a more comfortable range, you don’t have to fill it. If you want to try one borrow mine

but you gave it a pretty good go by the looks of it Ollie.
June 6, 2011 at 11:31 pm #202785Cheers Boyz  Thanks for the offer of the tank TB I got a 17 litre Clark tank ready to go for the really long rides (for me  ) I got this bike as an adventure bike and something I could ride to work now and then, the Gasgas is still my single track trail bike. I was looking at 3 different bikes they were the 690 Kato ( I had my eye on the same bike eagle bought about 2 months ago  ) but bit pricey for me , the DR650 nice bike but thought it would kill me if I tried to ride it like I would want but it does have the Leccy Leg.
apart from the Kick starting the XR ticks all the boxes and is still good in the snotty stuff. The extra set of wheels sealed it for me.Top triple clamp, fat bars and maybe a Air hawk seat are the next things to get. Does anyone do passenger pegs for these ? wife and daughter like to get on the back now and then.
Menace wrong hand, the right one is missing the digits the left is my modelling hand
Oink Oink

June 6, 2011 at 11:58 pm #202790Ballards I think do a set that clamp around the swing arm but you may have to beef the suspension if you are two up or your lovely could end up with her knees around her ears

And if you fold them up they will stove the bottom of your exhaust pipe in if you go over any jumps.

That’s if the retread has enough traction to get him up the jump first and being from the navy I doubt he is man enough to jump a tractor  I know it scares me sometimes

June 7, 2011 at 1:21 am #202798Speaking from Experiance Mick ?
Dont worry about the retreads TB, they got me up every Hill I attempted on the Birthday ride and I did take the hard options on the Saturday, Sunday was just a survival day
I also did a few jumps on her on Saturday arvo ( actually cased it twice  ) hopefully get it sorted soon.

Yep…but not on my 650. It happened on my 630 and it near threw me over the hangers. It put a nasty big dent in the pipe too.
