As you all know I bought myself a BRP for adventure type riding and for the longer trail rides. I got a really good deal on a 2002 Model (late 01 Build) XR650R I paid $3000 and it came with a spare set of wheels with new Pirelli road rubber. B) The bike had 20000 kms on it but these donks are renowned for their longevity so not really an issue for me.I did however fit a stainless steel re-usable Oil filter and used Penrite HPR15 gas Oil. Anyway here are some photies of the build. I have also purchased a Clarke 16 litre tank and will get a new top triple clamp and fat bars to improve the steering. A Unibiker rad guard was also fitted, great protection but a prick to fit.

No wonder you got it so cheap. It hasn’t got any rocker covers!!

No seriously Ollie, a great bike for the price!! A set of fat bars with 20mm risers and it will make a world of difference.

Like I said at the BD ride its nice bike mate you now have the best of both ;) The offer for a setup day you were interested in still stands. I have a 17 litre tank which if setup geared and ridden easy will get 200 kays but thats it. If you come across a 30 grab it, they are ok to ride with adventure anyway and can give you a more comfortable range, you don’t have to fill it. If you want to try one borrow mine

Cheers Boyz  Thanks for the offer of the tank TB I got a 17 litre Clark tank ready to go for the really long rides (for me  ) I got this bike as an adventure bike and something I could ride to work now and then, the Gasgas is still my single track trail bike. I was looking at 3 different bikes they were the 690 Kato ( I had my eye on the same bike eagle bought about 2 months ago  ) but bit pricey for me , the DR650 nice bike but thought it would kill me if I tried to ride it like I would want but it does have the Leccy Leg.
apart from the Kick starting the XR ticks all the boxes and is still good in the snotty stuff. The extra set of wheels sealed it for me. B)

Top triple clamp, fat bars and maybe a Air hawk seat are the next things to get. Does anyone do passenger pegs for these ? wife and daughter like to get on the back now and then.

Menace wrong hand, the right one is missing the digits the left is my modelling hand

    Oink Oink

Ballards I think do a set that clamp around the swing arm but you may have to beef the suspension if you are two up or your lovely could end up with her knees around her ears

And if you fold them up they will stove the bottom of your exhaust pipe in if you go over any jumps.

That’s if the retread has enough traction to get him up the jump first and being from the navy I doubt he is man enough to jump a tractor  I know it scares me sometimes :P

Speaking from Experiance Mick ?

Dont worry about the retreads TB, they got me up every Hill I attempted on the Birthday ride and I did take the hard options on the Saturday, Sunday was just a survival day

I also did a few jumps on her on Saturday arvo ( actually cased it twice  ) hopefully get it sorted soon.
