Before Old bulls there was a small but distinguished group of mates that shared the same passion, dirt bike wrestling.
These very intelligent and sophisticated gentlemen were known as the crash bandicoot recovery team.
There was
Billy,(splash)
Johno (flash)
Pete (crash)
Boony (flip)
And a ring in (col) billys nephew in law or something)
Once per year they ventured out into the wilderness or the closest pub for an outing.
The year was 2010 and the venue for the outing was to be the pristine riding grounds known as the cells river area.
The lads set sail early on Friday morning with the rodeo utes, cruiser ute and the crapadoor Ute loaded to the gunnels on their epic dirt bike wrestling weekend. As they were belting along the Oxley on route to dirt bikers version of heaven one of them whom shall be known as Boony had a thought! Betta give that micknmeld character a ring and invite him over for a bit of ride before he heads of to vic to watch some young blokes throw a bike in the air and catch it again, ( no biggy, I do it all the time).
201ks from home these 5 pull into a place they will call home for the next 3 days.

Camp set up and bikes unloaded new tyre on crashes KTM and it was time to explore them there hills whilst the camp biatch (flash) started on the fire duty and getting lunch ready as per the set menu. He had no bike so he volunteered to cook for the camp for the weekend.

The crash bandicoot recovery team has one tradition and that is the first one to have an off (bars must touch the ground) has to eat a can of mystery contents, proudly bought for the trip by Mrs Boony.
This alone is good incentive to stay upright, however the first off camber wet greasy log seen crashes bars touch the ground so the rest of us could breathe a little easier.

We rode the first day getting a feel for having absolutely zero control of ya bike on a downhill fire trail made out of shiny, wet, red clay,(who do we talk to about them making then trails out of that stuff).
We get back to camp and there’s lunch and a roaring fire waiting for us, tough job but someone has to do it.

Lunch was superb and then we refueled the bikes and off we set again, don’t ask where we went we just went and rode and rode, didn’t want the day to end.
Back at camp by a set time cause the camp biatch had set a designated dinner reservation. Broke out the bevies grabbed a chair and kicked back wondering what the poor people were doing.
The ring of knowledge was burnt out early and the farts sacks looked inviting, off to hotel de canvas I went.

Wakes up in the morning to the sound of rain on the tarp over me ute and thought GREAT that should make them ice skating rink like trails out there really interesting. Bacon and eggs finished we were padding up as flash says his off to meet some friends at gingers creek shop for a cappuccino and off he set. I said to the boys lets do the the coffee loop, didn’t get an argument from no-one. We set off p the access road and I settled into sweep when I seen the brake lights on all the bikes come and then they started shaking their heads, through the fog came Micknmeld on the trusty 6 fiddy. I introduced him to the crew told him our plan and we were off. The access road is just a normal 1 vehicle wide trail but somehow it turned into a race track when Mick went past me on a corner when the narny threw a rock at the fiddy. We went down to the ore stamper then up a trail I call the switch back track for reasons you need to see to believe.
I felt a bit chuffed when the mayor of wauchope told me he had never ridden this sweet little single that leads us to our coffee stop.
We headed back to camp along some rather good trails that if you can ride (counts me out ) you con screw on the throttle and have a ball.
Back at camp I made sure mick had enough fuel and said our farewells.
We rode everywhere and back for the rest of the day and even went for a quick 20k ride Sunday morning before we headed home. Thanks to me mate for making this ride a great outing.
As for Mick , mate huge effort getting there and home in them conditions but as I said, better than sitting at home scratching ya arse wondering, hey.Boony
