Mmmmmmmm seems confusion reins around here at the moment.

1.I know what gearing suits me in what terrain.

    2. My question was should you change the rear or the front sprocket to gain the required gearing.

My DRZ feels absolutley sweet for me running a 14 front and a 50 rear.
yes I do gear down for extended rides in tight trails and go back to standard for long open rides like an adventure ride.but for general rides like on the weekend it 14/50 for me on my bike for my riding style.

I will be changing the rear sprocket as of now when the gearing neads changing purely for wear reasons.

    Cheers

Boony thats a great idea mate as well, be very interesting ;) If we PM them to you can you add them up and work them out and STM with the others?

    TB

everyone pm me the ks traveled just to get to and from your ride locations for the said weekend.
Please put the number of riders in your vehicle for the trips because they will count as well.

IE: Tamworth to wauchope = 300ks, makes it a 600k round trip and with bollocks in the vehicle with me that makes it a 1200 round trip for 2 riders.

I’m very confident you should run the largest front you can get away with. I don’t see how torque multiplication is really a factor here. Changing to a bigger front sprocket and adjusting the rear sprocket so that you have the same final ratio does not effect the ‘torque multiplication’ in my opinion.

Torque multiplication is more commonly referred to in the truck and performance car world when specifying/adjusting/operating torque converters. Torque converters are most commonly used on vehicles with a automatic transmission.

After my ride with Aaron today along the local stock route,I now have found the gearing that suits me, and yeah I will be keeping the 14 on the front and only change the rear sprocket when need be.

    Cheers
