The worst part is that I hadn’t even got to the hard part of the hill yet. It is just the lead in to the hill. You can’t really see it but just above the bike is a flat road to cross and a very steep step you have to get up to get going on the hill. Was thinking about that and worried I didn’t have enough revs to make the climb when before I knew I didn’t even have enough revs to get on the road. Then the usual story, thought I could make it if I just hung on a bit longer. Got to the pound of no return and the front starts coming up. Didn’t get on the clutch fast enough and the rest is history. Worst thing waqs I had just put new bars on after a little incident at Nundle the week before and I thought I’d bent them again. Rode around all day with the shits about having to explain to the missus about two sets of bars in two weeks. When I got home I loosened off all the triple clamps and it sprung back to normal.

The good news is I’m there again tomorrow to reclaim my glory. Hopefully a better result.

You have to cross the start line within a certain amount of time once you been told to start or you pick up time penalties :)

Your bike doesn’t have to cross the line under it’s own power. You will get time penalties for failing the cold start test but if you push your bike the first 20m you will not incur penalties for the distance part as well.

Those rocks look familiar to me. Seem to remember a couple of quality hours spents going through, around and over most of them.

Good photos Ecks. Stop working so hard and keep them coming.

Just out of interest. How many km’s/hours did your bike have on it when the pin came unpressed.

Glad it helped Busy. I am in no way a mechanic, just keep an ear out for any problems associated with any bike I own or any bike I’m looking at. There’s been a lot of ktm’s with the pin attached to the magnetic sump plug. It happened to a mates 300 and by the time he got the pin out it looked very second hand from hitting the gears. Haven’t heard of ktm covering the issue under warranty either but haven’t really asked either.

Glad to here the bikes back to normal. Hopefully I get to meet you one day and we can swap bikes for a while. I’d really like to try the 250.

Not sure about the 250 but I’ve got an 09 300 and I thought the speedo ran off a watch type battery and was totally seperate to the rest of the bikes electrics which would mean that a dull display is not related to the bikes issues. If it’s not going into band properly then maybe it could be the pin on the power valve actuator has come off. Again not sure if the 250 has this issue but the 300 definitely does. The pin is a press fit and can come off and fall into the transmission. Has there been any issues with gear changes. If so this might be a sign the pin is floating around in the transmission.

If it sounds like it could be a possibility watch this to see the fix.

    TB,

If the basket fingers are notched can they be filed down or is it a case for a new basket. Do they tend to notch on the outer finger or the inner or both.

The bolts on the springs. Do they get done up tight (ie. hard up against the threaded stems) or do they get done up to point where the springs are compressed to a certain tension.

Thanks for the post. It helps me heaps.

Yeah, I’ve got nothing TB. If it was the next day then Krams comment may have been on the money. Stomach was a little unsettled after Saturday night.

I think I was practicing to be an alter boy or maybe just getting the look right in case I ever want to ride a BMW adventure bike.

    Ps Great report –

Marty’s not bad on the up hills either, or the flat for that matter. Pulled up outside Dave’s gate. Dave goes well too. Was a bit slow on Day 3 for some reason. I think he was getting pins and needles in his hands.
