I’m over manufactures ‘space cadet’ opinions on how we should maintain our bikes.
May have to build a black XR400 and rejoin Old Bulls as a born again XR owner.
What the hell is going on here!! XRs are taking over the site.
Welcome c-e-l. Sounds like you have the XR all sorted. You’ll enjoy a good laugh and great rides on here.
Mick have you been sending out secret messages for XR owners to come and join?
I didn’t think there was this many XRs left in the country.
Welcome to the capt furious.
Be careful when you meet the XR owners as they might just try and dry hump your leg. That’s how excited they get when another XR owner shows up here.
Enjoy the site mate. There’s heaps of info and heaps of good blokes on here.
We”l have to hook up for a ride as I live not to far from you.
Here is a few vidoes from the final moto.

Quote:you guy’s are pissed at the lack of info, i bloody rode in the thing and cannot find out my final result, hopefully this will be posted up asap. Tough but fun event and very well organised, specials were great, disappointed some had to be cut due to various reasons, thanks to all the people involved well done!!You were No.1 at 3am this morning mate while we were watching the David Knight DVD..
I called last drinks not long after that.
We went to help clean up parc ferme and some of the special tests at 9am.
Day 4 was over pretty quick for me as a restarter. We had to have our bikes at parc ferme by 8am and they sent us out first for a quick 3 lap race at 10am to cut the track in a bit. This provided lots of amusement for the spectators as we slipped slided around corners taking out the bunting tape and I nearly high sided myself. But it was a great track and a credit to Geoff Ballard for the design.
Donna took a couple of vids of me doodling around the track and when I finished I grabbed the camera to take some shots of medogrocket and a few other guys.
Huge thanks to the Dirt Doctor Racing team (medogrockets team) for their moral support and the splash of fuel on day 3. You guys and my supports team were always so enthusiastic when any of us turn up at a control and nothing was a drama. I have really enjoyed the experience and will hopefully get in and do a few local events this year.
I know I have said this before but the event was really well organised and a huge thanks to the Oyster Bay and Central Tablelands Clubs for setting the course and all the behind the scene stuff. As a landholder of one of the special tests we couldn’t have been treated better by Rick, Lyn and Chris. Nothing was a drama for them and all our questions were answered. All the officials and sweeps that we seen out on the course were always happy and on for a chat and that helps settle the nervs for a newbie like me. Thanks guys it was a top effort.
Here’s a few pics for the final moto track. I will up load the videos tonight.

Random pics. Check the track. :woohoo:
Day 3 had some awesome tracks and was more on the endurance side of riding for me anyway. There was nothing really technical I just couldn’t cruise on the open sections I had to keep pushing to stay on the minute. Even though I was only a restarter I was riding to the times sort of. Donna and TB were very casual as well. I would turn to a control early and TB was playing his DS and Donna was sowing. I had to beep the horn to get them out of the car.
The tracks were mixture of nice flowing pine singles to very tight pine single to nice open flowing (typical) Sunny Corner rocky sections. Through in some fresh singles straight the side of some hills and your arms are in for a big day. My arms started to get lazy half way through the second loop and my head started flooping around so I back off a bit and had a quiet word to myself. Then I got back into because I knew the sweeps were on their way.
The event was very well organised and guys setting the course have done a great job. I heard the guns really enjoyed the course as well.
Us restarters get to have an early run on the final moto today so that will be fun. :woohoo:
Donna and TB had a chance to take some photos videos and I will post them up tonight.

Quote:The worst part is that I hadn’t even got to the hard part of the hill yet. It is just the lead in to the hill. You can’t really see it but just above the bike is a flat road to cross and a very steep step you have to get up to get going on the hill. Was thinking about that and worried I didn’t have enough revs to make the climb when before I knew I didn’t even have enough revs to get on the road. Then the usual story, thought I could make it if I just hung on a bit longer. Got to the pound of no return and the front starts coming up. Didn’t get on the clutch fast enough and the rest is history. Worst thing waqs I had just put new bars on after a little incident at Nundle the week before and I thought I’d bent them again. Rode around all day with the shits about having to explain to the missus about two sets of bars in two weeks. When I got home I loosened off all the triple clamps and it sprung back to normal. The good news is I’m there again tomorrow to reclaim my glory. Hopefully a better result.
Everyone has a story like that. Mines on youtube somewhere
Good luck mate. You’ll nail it this time.Bundyroy wrote:

Do what floats your boat at the time Blue. I driven a tractor that big before so I can’t comment on super low range, blades and rippers  .
TB seems to peddle his around ok and if watch the Dust to Glory a thousand times you’ll buy one tommorrow.
Well , my timed event is officially over. TB and Mick have posted what happened. Thanks guys.
After we got it going this morning I had forgotten all about it and the bike was going well. The tracks were relativity easy but time to do them was short, so you had to set a fast pace to stay on your minute. I was coming in with about 6min to spare and feeling quite good.
Then when I got to time check 4 and TB filled the tank there was fuel running out the carbi overflow and we checked the throttle. It was sticking again and I hadn’t noticed. I dicked around with it under TBs instructions and we got it sort of working. Then after about 1km of single track through the cut down pines I come over some small cut down pines and give it a rev to lift the front over and throttle sticks wide open. Luckily I was in 2nd gear and out of the band, but it was heading for it rather quickly. I hit the kill switch and a mate (Rob) that DNFed yesterday that was following me pulled up and we started pulling the cabi out. We couldn’t find anything wrong and pulled the throttle mechanism apart and found nothing wrong there either. Time was getting away and Rob had to go before the sweeps turned up. I put the bike back together and it was still not working. I rang TB just as the sweeps turned up and said go and hand your card and get the bike fixed up for tomorrow. It was very disheartening handing my card in after all the work TB and I have put in.
I rang TB back and organised for them to come back to the control and so we could put the old cable back in. Well did I get treated like a rock star when they got there. I parked the bike in the shade and my excellent team went to work. Donna grabbed the chair out and said sit down and started feeding and watering me. TB (god love him) did what he does best and got straight into fixing the bike. He already had the spare cable out for the next control and in a matter of minutes had the tank off and the cable out. He wouldn’t let me do anything and it was nice to just sit and watch. When TB was finished the throttle worked like new.
Getting the Rockstar treatment
So we headed back to Parc Ferme where Donna sorted a restart for me and TB and I watched the guns come in did their service and change their tyres. I then changed my rear and run the spanner over the bike. Then put her to bed in the lock up and headed over to see how Medogrocket was going.
So I still get to ride with a time card tomorrow, just don’t get any points. Also get to ride a DNF final moto on Sunday morning so that is ok.
It’s been great to run into a heap of Old Bulls at the 4 day: MickP’s an official at Parc Ferme, Whiterocket stayed at home for a couple of nights while he was officially all over the course (thanks for the waves of motivation Whiterocket), Gotchya has been up here sweeping and waving me on with encouragement – thanks mate, SB250Y and Badbowie dropped to chat while I was getting the rockstar treatment today, BIG thankyou to Mike from Muckoff for giving me a hand at service on Thursday afternoon, another BIG thankyou to Daniel from Suttos for organising a set of Barkbusters for me on short notice, Fireman is here as part of the crew for the team “Dirt Doctor Racing” – thanks Brett (and the Dirt Doctor team) for all the advice, support and words of encouragement, Medogrocket is here and still doing well in the ride and keeping within his time – it was great to ride with him yesterday and will always be a great mate. TB caught up with RiderY today from Wauchope who is going very well.
On a side note – While I was getting the rock star treatment on the side of the road, the lead riders came into the time check and a KTM rider waved and yelled “HEY MAL5.1 AND TB” as he rode past. I couldn’t get the number off the bike and TB and I could only assume that it was Dick Dastardly the sneaky bugger as he has mention that he was riding the event.
First day done and dusted.
While the tracks themselves were not hard on a normal days trail riding the fact that you never really got a break from the hills or singles made it very taxing on the body and mind.
I was extremely nervous this morning to the point I nearly spewed in my helmet. I also came of the bike in the first 10min. Just had a brain fade going through a large puddle at around 60km/h. Busted the right hand guard and tore off the valve on my hydration pack and then dumped all my water on my leg.
I then binned it again on my own special test after seeing Gotchya and saying hi. Not your fault Gotchya, it was another brain fade.
There was one mother of a hill that I have done a few times on trail rides, but not with 20 other bikes all trying to get up at the same time and as fast as they can. I spent 20min on the hill after hitting t he wall pretty hard. I had a good hard chat to myself and finished the hill.
I started to calm down a bit and just set a comfortable rhythm and forgot about my minute and concentrated on finishing the day. Medogrocket caught up to me after having a flat and we sort of stayed together for the rest of the day. I really enjoyed the afternoon riding with a good mate in the A4DE. Thanks Tim.
My service team of Donna and TB were just champions all day. I came into the first control with nearly man tears and shaking. These guys calmed me down sorted all my issues with hydration and hand guards. They were always there and had heaps of words of encouragement. It was easy to find my crew as TB would jump up and down in the middle of the track.
All up it was a hard day and I just made it in before my hour was up and now I’m aching all over.
Ready for tomorrow now. :woohoo:
