I only have one back mudguard and that is a red one off the 1999 model I had.

Plenty of dead XR engines in my shed, 3 I think. all with the same problem. Oil starvation to the cam.

Gday Cole, welcome to OBT, thanks for the intro, as a guess you’d be the same fella I spoke to in Wauchope the other day?

Hey Gordo, welcome to OBT, you’ll gain plenty of mates around here, seeing as though you ride a 400cc Banana. They are the people that secretly would own a XR650 if they had an electric start, so they are all reasonably good people.
    Thanks for the intro.
    Cheers
    Mick.

Could it be less about the braking pressure from one side to the other and more about the brake disc channeling the muck straight up the fork leg perhaps?

Jeffro, you are a thinker aren’t you…

Well Rudy, I will now throw another bike into the mix of the shitters I have in the shed with leaking fork seals. I have 3 bikes with leaking LH side fork seals and another has a leaking RH side seal. The latter being a Buell M2 Cyclone which has the disc on the RH side. So indeed I must be cursed to have 4 bikes with one only leaking seal and all of those being on the disc side of the forks. Weird shit indeed.

I actually have stopped the YZ’s fork seal from leaking, by using the feeler gauge trick and keeping on top of the air build up. It is amazing how much air will build up after just a short ride.

I was aware that most suspension guys dont rate the bleeder buttons at all, so I still run the bleeder screws.

BRP (Big Red Pig) is the world wide name for XR600’s and XR650’s

I am thinking that either screw 3, 5 or 12 has come adrift.

Just did some searching and found a guy who build a 99 RMX250 motard. He had a screw back out of stator which caused a screeching noise. Could I be so lucky it will be this simple?

Before I even read down this far, I had put my money on this being the cause of the noise. I had a similar thing happen to an RD250LC, it made a wild grinding noise untill the screw “caught” and bent at 45 degrees which then stopped it from hitting the stator rotor, hence no more noise.

Never gas a 600 across Moose’s causeway!! The big XR will make you pay…… Of all the km’s I have ridden with Moose, that causeway crash was the most rediculous crash I have ever seen him have!!

Hi Mick, we can hook you up with the right people in the Wauchope area. Next weekend there is a sprint on at the Hastings Valley MCC track. You will need to purchase a day licence ($55) pay your entry fee (around $30) and a membership of the club ( $10 for the day or $25 for the year). Sprint racing is kinda like a pony express only you race against the clock as opposed to other riders. A CRF450R for your first bike is a big ask though, it will be like trying to ride a bag of cats to a newbie. Good luck with it champ.
