Just for the information of the keyboard warriors out there..

I have been at work since the original post, and after the second post was made (the morning of picking up said tyre) I picked up the tyre that afternoon, yes I was charged $20 for fitting and yes the workshop staff were helpful.

I was told at the POS that the cost would be $45 for tube, and $25 for fitting, I did not confirm that was what I paid however, I have since confirmed that yes $34.95 was debited from my account..

I do not want a refund, I do not want a discount or anything else, it was a miscommunication between myself and the dealer and I am happy to leave it at that (I have since pmed the dealer he has my contact no and can contact me if he wishes).. The entire point of an internet forum is for members of the general public to voice there concerns or issues for discussion, it appears that a number of members feel that the price charged was reasonable and there was no issue with the service costs, I’ll cop that..

A number of you felt it was a personal attack.. it was not.. in future I’ll ensure that all my post in no way reflect negatively on any sponsors, sponsor affiliates..

Thanks (unless some of your offended by recieving thanks…)

Now I have calmed a little, I usually go through a different bike shop which is unfortunately located 1 hour south of port.. I made a decision due to having too much on my plate prior to the weekend to use a local dealer, I will not name the dealer as I am sure a number of people use them and are quiet happy with the service they provide..

I did not request an “ultra heavy duty tube” and if I requested a super special michelin or bridgestone HD tube I would expect to pay for it, I did not receive any “high performance” tube, I received a heavy duty tube in a black box which was not a brand I have heard of..

I understand that the bike shop needs to make money, I get it, but forking out $70 has done nothing but left a sour taste in my mouth, the whole reason behind the original post is to bring to light what Joe bloggs has to cop when he walks into the local bike shops..

At the shop I regularly use, I normally get a discount, and fitting is a case of “dont worry about it” this in turn leaves me walking out of the store feeling great and wanting to go back in, (hell I have been traveling back n forth to Taree for 2 years now) I’m not saying that you should do that for every consumer that walks in the door, but at least offer a cheaper alternative..

The sport is expensive enough as it is, if I was a bloke coming off the street to get my tube fixed and a bike shop hit me with $70 for a puncture alone (I shudder to think what I would have been charged if the tyre was still on the bike) I would be jaded, this in turn would lead me into looking OS for parts (hello rockmtnatv) or accepting that I cant afford the sport and selling my bikes.. Neither is good for the motorcycle industry

I for one have learnt my lesson, I will travel 2 hours to get my gear fixed at Taree Motorcycles and will not set foot in the above bike shop as I would much sooner travel then get f#@ked in the arse again

Unfortunately I’m working this Sunday so wont be there, Any old bulls keen to have a crack at mx should make there way for this one, the track is loamy and a lot of fun, its a great way to try mx without the high pressure race starts B)

From experience with riding with guys husq-grenades, Id recommend a tow rope and a little can of wd-40 and a rag (when its wet the plug hole fills with water, use the dry rag to soak up water + WD40 I have resusitated 3 x 310s now) plus 11 and 13mm spanners…

Fingers crossed it all gets cleared up sooner rather then later, There is a pretty good flat track scene around the area too Razzle, with oil circuits at Old Bar (near Taree) and Kempsey, so much so I’ll probably invest in some motard wheels for the CRF until the mx track gets the all clear..
If your really keen I can take you out with the KTM to explore some nice technical stuff ;)

I did a lot of riding in the area, from the mid 80’s to around 2002 (grandfather owns kempfield NE of trunkey) Theres not a lot in pensylvannia, mostly fire roads however as you get closer to copperhania NP we used to have a lot of single trail cut in (about a 60k loop), I’m not sure if its still there, I last rode it 2005 so it was still open and clear then (I think a couple of locals use it regularly) the ride down to hells hole used to be a cracker, lots of erosion ditches and fun climbs I think its all nature reserve though so I’m not sure of the legalities riding down there… For memory theres singles near the sugarloaf mine as well.. Good luck

in reply to: Learning to MX again… which bike please #225871

Id love a 300 2 stroke, but theres not much chance of getting the coin to stretch far enough to get me on one..

It cost $100 for the day, and that covered the day license and let me ride two classes for the day (C grade and over 300 class), and if your like me and haven’t raced for a looong time its a lot of track time.. (racing got harder on the body I think)

Mick I still havent discounted the old husky, I could pour some coin into the suspension and make a hell of a race bike out of her… too many options…

in reply to: EVS R4 neck brace / support #222993

I have had an EVS R4 now for about 2 months, my views

    GOOD
    Lightweight
Not noticeable when riding 90% of the time
    Locking system works well

    BAD
In tight snotty situations where you have to duck your head under obstacles you cant duck as low as you think you can (I have broken 2 helmet peaks ducking trees at pace…)
In a heavy crash the load seems to be placed squarely on the muscles either side of your neck/ shoulder blades, I have walked away with bruising but I’d much sooner have bruises then snap my neck
If you use the supplied straps it pays to remember to take your camelback off before the neck brace (have been tangled up a few times at service stations.)

IMO for the price people would be mad not to have one, I have honestly found the only people that bad mouth the braces tend to not have one themselves and generally dont see the sense in spending $$$ on other safety equipment (knee braces, helmets over $500) I would much sooner be out of pocket for few weeks then spend my remaining life in a wheelchair should the unthinkable happen

If you ever need a guide around the singles in kiwarak pop me a pm, I used to spend a bit of time down there and still sneak in a quick loop whenever the chance pops up (in laws live there)
