With the compression thing I was mainly talking about raising the compression above standard,(makes a big difference, you can remove the spacer out of the head gasket, 3 piece)
Ollie
I did a search on the Airstriker and Mainjet website was on top o the list. I plan on giving them a call tomorrow to see if they have stock. At this stage i’m just looking to get it running nice not looking for more power, yet. Been a few years since I’ve ridden a smoker so will ease myself into it. The more I look at it the more I think I’m gunna like it lots and go the full hog on it.
Yeah, sorry Tez I only come across this bike a couple days ago. It wasn’t really advertised mainstream. I knew Ollie was sniffing around it and if I didn’t act fast he wouldn’t be able to resist much longer.
Thanks for the tips Ollie, The 38mm air striker is on top of the shopping list and as for the suspension, once you have owned a bike that has the Teknik treatment it would be hard to go back. The fork and shock are no doubt long overdue for a service so may as well get the works while they are apart.
I plan on pulling it down and checking the reed and power valves. Seems to still have plenty of compression so i’ll wait and see if it needs a fresh top end yet. Pipe and muffler with be on the shopping list if the budget can stretch it and all the ADR gear with end up on the shelf in the shed.
Teza, I just sent you a PM. Maybe we can talk a deal.
Jeffro, I’ll watch your recovery with interest. I injured my shoulder a couple weeks back at work. Dr reckons rotator cuff tear. I had an ultrasound today and will wait for results.
Good luck mate.
Last time I was in Thailand I got to experience what it’s like to ride a XR650R.
I am guessing this is the link http://toursintheextreme.com/ I have been looking at bike tours of the area both road and dirt, ever since I was there last year. Will get back there soon for a ride but as the other half will be coming with me it will most likely be more road orientated.

The flying freckle looked very uncomfortable when asked to compare the link vs PDS and gave a very diplomatic answer.
Overall, what I took from that is the link is easier to setup and works better over a wider variety of conditions which is what you get when riding off road. Link will come to EXC range it’s only a matter of time. Maybe they still have contracts with PDS parts suppliers.
I still want a 350EXC.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.
Seriously though I am surprised they stayed with PDS when the SX (4T) range has gone with linkage. I would happily lay down cash for the 350. I would just need to change the plastics. No way I could live with the colour.

Who Bruce, thats a nice vintage model you have there. Look it still had a kick-starter, a steel frame and is that a carby I can see in there? What’s up with the header pipe? It looks like a pregnant guppy. Have you retrofitted the rear suspension and brakes? Surely a 2003 model would have come with twin shocks and drum brakes. Come to think of it I think I once seen one of these models on a Steve Mcqueen movie I saw years ago. I bet it’s hard to find parts for.
Bruce we all speed, and we ALL get the fines (dame speed cameras). This year mine CTP may have gone down a bit more because as of this Easter long weeked, I now have a full compliment of demerit points for the first time in years.
