I see in my future a BMW G650X Challenge, kind of a dual sport, were there any at the show?

BMW did not have the G650X on display. The only one I saw at the show was one of the small trade dispays. They were selling saddle/tank bags and the like. They had a G650X all kitted out with bags and gear. Looked like it had seen some work too.

Probably a wise move. Would not want to be caught out there with a fire ripping through.

Funny thing is Boony I think the tow hook is a good idea. It just seems like Yamaha don’t have alot of faith in the bike making the distance. As for the denim shorts. You couldn’t afford that bike, no doubt very high matainance.

Well I just got home from the Sydney Motorcycle Show and now I’m all depressed. So many great bikes that I have no hope of fitting in my riding budget. Still it’s good fun to wander around, bullshit the salesman and generally dream.

The $18 entry fee is pretty reasonable seeing you get a few shows thrown in for your money but $16 for parking was a down right rip-off. Tip for those planning to go, ride ya bike there if ya can. Free parking for bikes right out front.

There were all the big bike brands there, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Harley, BMW, KTM, Husqvana as well as smaller boutique brands such as Husaberg, Sherco, Victory, and the like. There was even some cheap Chinese brands.

I spent a bit of time at the BMW stand, the new 450 looks flash but I don’t think there are many changes.

I’ve seen these in magazines and a few on the road but they are even more impressive up close. Of all the bikes at the show, this is the one I would have taken home.

Got to see the new YZF450 up close. Very interesting design but at a cost. According to the salesmen the 2010 model is $1000 more than the 2009. If this extra cost transfers to the WR in the future it going to make very pricy.

The new Tenere is a bike I wanted to be impresses by as I can see an adventure bike in my future. I have followed the bikes release and even like the new styling but up close it just looked cheep and fragile. The headlight and speedo assembly look very venerable. There is a metal frame that supports it all but I don’t think this will help much. This is also the first bike I’ve seen with a tow hook at the front. Almost like Yamaha are expecting it to break down. All that and a wet weight 2kg heavier than the BMW F800GS.

There were some Moto GP bike there to go ooh ahh over.
    SydneyMotorcycleShow2009010.jpg
    SydneyMotorcycleShow2009016.jpg

And some fully sic motards, I particularly liked the Husky 610.
    SydneyMotorcycleShow2009015.jpg

But the Ducati Hypermotard would be hell fun to ride and looks horn.
    SydneyMotorcycleShow2009039.jpg

The Honda stand had all the usual models and a line up of their past 3 Safari winners
    Jacob Smiths 2009 bike.

There are four great rides in this photo. :)

    SydneyMotorcycleShow2009045.jpg

There was also plenty of non two wheeled eye candy.
    SydneyMotorcycleShow2009087.jpg

There was also a show and shine with a few choppers and the like as well as many other trade displays. All in all a good day out and well worth the look if ya get a chance over the weekend.

I enjoyed it and it helped justify my long term honda hating.
    Along with being very interesting.

This article has been shown on here before. You all can use it to justify your Honda bashing (no im not a Honda owner) but Honda have the right to make and market whatever they want. If they choose not to make two stroke then so be it. It just leaves a bigger market for those that do.

In reality Honda have given much more to the motor cycle world then most.

I added the series of youtube links for the show but looks like admin are doing something with them.

If you search youtube Greatest ever motorcycle: #1 thru to 10 you will find the vids for the show.

I don’t necessarily agree with the top three but I could see why they might be there. As for the top ten there’s a few bikes in there that I can’t see what they have added to the motorcyling world.

I’d propably have the Vespa in the top ten because for a poxy little scooter there is somehow still something real cool about them.

Not a Harley fan but if I was rich and could afford a large motorcycle collection it would include a Knucklehead.

Maybe we should add what we would have as our personal number 1.

For me it would be the NSR500 GP bikes. Totaly irrational and unobtainable to the public, not to mention I would have no hope of trying to tame one if even in my dreams I was given a chance. I still think these beasts were the untimate race bike and only the untimate racer was able to ride them.

Even though I’m more a 4 stoke rider there was no sound like the sound of the big V4 2T. Luv it.

Always the one to go against the flow here……..

Are you trying to say that because all of India, Asia and Europe are riding these little pussbox cubs around for their economy and reliability and 40 gazillion units sold that they are the best bike…come on guys get it together….
In the automotive world the most units of cars sold is not the best car, ask the Mercedes, jag, Porsche , BMW, ferrari and I am sure there is lots lots lots more….all better cars to drive than pussbox production city commuters that would probably easily top the sales stakes…….now where would the VW Bettle be , the best in the world because they remain unchanged for 1000 years of sales….now arent they a pleasure to drive

Maybe it was the most sold the little cub, but the best….at that stage I would have gone and had a look at my fish tank to get more entertainment.

I am sure there is a more accurate way of determining the Best bike other than sales figures

You only have to ride one to KNOW……. :)

Rat this wasn’t about sales figures and that shows with the 916 at no.2, plenty bigger sales than that.

It was about the bikes influence in the world of motorcycling.

For the CB750 in it’s time it was a mass produced bike that brought to the masses better performance and reliabilty than even expensive custom bikes of the day could offer.

With the Ducati it was it’s styling, this bike brought a new era for styling of sports bikes that most other brands have tryed to emulate.

The cub has simply got more people around the world riding bikes than any other bike in history. It might not be the kind lf riding that we all do but the people who ride them are motorcylist all the same. It’s influence on the masses is simply unchallenged by any other motorcycle.

Add to that its reliability and some off the places this bike has gone, im sure we’ve all seen stories of people doing round the would trips on these thing.

We apraise Ewen McGregor and Charlie Borman for riding around the world on state of the art BMW’s with 2 support cars. People have been doing this for years on posties unsupported.

Look at the big picture. It’s not just about the fastest, sexiest or blingest.

From what I can work out from that thread,I need another resistor? Why the hell dont they come with one or some freaking instructions at least??
    Resistors
    Regulators
    Rectifiers
    Blah blah blah blah.
Man I hate this crap,I have had enough electrical bullshit for one week. :S

Dude thats why I pulled into the bike shop yesterday and got a pair of micro normal bulb indicators that are really small to replace the standard ones on the front of the DRZ that are the size of your average aircraft carrier, me no need a resistor/restrictor/resporator

Boony you may still run into trouble with normal globes depending on their wattage.

The standard big globes a 5W each. The small ones on mine are only 2W which drops the resistance for the lights causing them to flash much faster than normal speed.

When replacing only the rear mine still worked normal but once doing the front to the problem started. Need to add resistor to fix the ploblem. Or do what I did and piss them off alltogether, problem solved.

With that I was also able to piss off the left hand switch block. Just put a small switch on there so I can now turn the headlight off while riding.

Thats a couple more grams off the big banana. Every gram counts.

Scotty, what goes wrong with the territory’s? 2wd probs same as 4wd?

my sister is looking at one for down the track.
    .

XY, mechanicaly not much, the big six goes strong and no doubt will do big k’s no problems. The early territory was based on a falcon chassis and platform that was converted to a 4WD style vehicle. In doing so it seams Ford didn’t put as much R&D into the Territory as they did the Falcon.

It was little things like bad fiiting trim work body work and trimmings and the rear tail gates would rub together wearing the paint back to bare metal. I’ve seen 6 month old Territory’s starting to rust in this area. This is just not good enough for a $40,000+ car.

On looks alone I think the territory is a better looking car than the Prado but if I was buying a car to keep for the long term out of these two it would be the Prado. The Prado would also do a better job off road.

XY, don’t be offended it’s not a Ford bashing thing, I don’t give a crap for brand loyalty bullshit. It’s just prior to my current job I spent 20 years working on cars which gave me a good eye for quality and the Territory isn’t it.

    in reply to: 4wd #160666

I don’t have much experiance with the new model Territory Chris but I have worked on the earlier model and the build quality was shit.

If it was me I would go for the Toyota every day of the week.

in reply to: Alessi to ride KTM 350SXF with Linkage #160231

My question with KTM going back to the linkage is will they be behind the times in linkage technoligy.

It seams most would agree it took them about 8-9 years to get the PDS to work properly and they now have a frame that lets it work to it’s full potential.

Will it take them a few years to develop a frame that works with a linkage rear end again.
