Just a couple of quick questions. For me My XR650R is mainly used for commuting from Hornsby to The city about 60 KM a day. I have an alloy plate installed instead of Original Plate/s.
1.would this mod be beneficial for my purpose or would I be better off leaving it in> Im happy with the power it makes, but dont want bits sucked into the engine Either. Answered it yourself the bits in the engine ids the drama, Nick need say about the one piece ones during the video, PS alloy would worry me more because vibrations and alloy don’t mix
2. How much of a power gain is created by removing the restrictions ? Haven’t measured it cant hurt
3. Do you lean it to the right like Nick said or to the left pivoting on the stand like TB said? Tested both ways, stand to the left works as well and is easier
cheers Ollie
Do it mate easy and worth the peace of mind IMO

Acelotsa wrote:TB, was that the rear tyre you wanted me to try when we were talking at St Albans 2 day nav?It looks good for the Ks
Yes it was the one I said would be worth trying, 130/80-17 Michelin T63. I get 5k out of one and thats the same as a E-09 but have heaps more grip.
Lefty try a Baja front, the knobs dont heal and toe like a Desert front and have more grip than a Rally Raid and the desert and have a wicked edge that fold back over the rim to protect it. Just a thought

They sound like a good thing and not a eBay shit knock off. As far as my experience goes I haven’t had any luck with cheaper brake components as you know I do more miles than most and test the gear so I went through my log books and here is my disc usage lately. On the Tenere I got 29000 and 5 sets of pads out of the original rear disc before I replaced it (worn less than 2.5mm) then used a eBay cheap one no name 11000 two and a half sets of pads it was below 2.5 and warped pushing the pads back
Fitted another OEM replacement from Germany done 9000 and one set of pads same brand and compound pads used since I replaced the first set of Yamaha ones.
The 280mm front (think its 280) EBC that came on my XR did over 42000 including Condos, a4de etc slowing my fat arse down and is still slowing Mick down now days and besides the rivets needing a tune up every now and then was awesome. I have a custom 4mm thick chain gang disc I bought of Brad. Rear disc genuine lasted 38000 eBay special 9000 same pads. Another eBay on there now because all I could get in a hurry genuine new here to go on when rebuilt.
Tried cheap pads once Ollie posted about $11 specials fitted them in Mick’s next day wheel locked up the backing plate on the pad bent!!TB
EAGLE`02 wrote:Great report Left
That rear held up pretty well for the run ,, what do you reckon would have been better on the front ???Cheers
I recommended the T63 rear but didnt talk about the fronts and they are crap, he thought I was talking about both  Sorry Lefty  Rears are good but eh
Reckon the Baja fronts are a good thing, testing one now. Cant beat a Dunlop 952 front ripper just arent road legalTB
