the rookie wrote:cheers for the input mate !it definatly seems to be a trial and error when it comes to brake rotors and seeing what suits, i got my eye on a set of rotors … and yes the front is 270mm

Sounds like you will be able to do a product review some info some pictures and your thoughts new and after a while. Input like that helps everybody, will look forward to it.

dont get me started on cheap brake pads ! made that mistake once and never again !
will look in EBC as well
another question now that i think about it, the adaptor plates for the over sized rotors, are they the same between the crf450 R and X ? like will a R plate fit on a X ? just curious im trying to do the research myself and its doing my head in
Nick of Tekniks fame will know the answer to that. I reckon they are 100% but he will know for sure
He maybe a big quiet for the next few days being that it is Christmas bit I am sure he will chime inTB
Ollie wrote:No probs mate the oversize disc you want is 270mm for Enduro/Trail or 320 for Motard. They are chinese but work well.I put an EBC oversize on my XR650 and its been good as well (bit more exspensive tho)

the rookie wrote:i have been tempted to throw an oversize on the front but im worried that if i do that my speedo wont work ( got one of those vapour tech speedos that run off a sensor and magnetic bolt on the front brake ) dont know if anyone has already found a way around this ?cheers for the info
Maybe able to recalibrate the speedo. Most electronic ones I have had anything to do with have been able to have the pulse count changed

james wrote:Does sound like it was an awful lot of bad luck TB :angry:But,forgive my ignorance does this now mean when you do get your bike back, its good for another 50000 klm or more
Cheers James
Hi James, mate there isnt any real bad luck as such, maybe I made it sound like that but i didnt mean to I am as happy as a pig in shit really
The problem with having one of the highest mileage Teneres around (that model) is that I will be the first to discover such problems. The info I got regarding the bearing on the shift arm was from a high mileage Tenere in england I think on XT660.comFrom here on here I will do 30k put a shift arm in, another 30k and a shift arm in and so on. I reckon its would be good for another 80 + k before it gets torn down again

Mate this thing has been banged, crashed, thrashed, held flat for hrs into towns generally ridden way out side its design parameters  Its a good thing and I believe the best single cylinder all round adv bike on the market that can be purchased new
TB
Well I have shared this on ADV rider in the Tenere thread in the hope it saves some poor other bugger from going down this path. Prevention is better and cheaper than cure
Brian at Team Moto Yamaha who yesterday chased and chased gears for me he is a legend! Sadly we are screwed until the 7th at least. Brian has also looked after me price wise, so guys if you have a Yamaha and need bits even if you cant get there ring him and tell him you are a bull, that Greg sent you he does good work and offers good service. (02) 9421 0696Called in to see Nick yesterday arvo, we put the swingarm bolt back in and it is now able to be moved off the lift stand so its now just waiting.

Read this morning that Coma is out of the Dakar, anybody else confirm or seen this?

Jeffro wrote:Yeh mate, they work fine now. Makes me realise how little riding I did in 2012.Sorry bud  I have been lucky, paying the piper now with the Tenere in pieces

So its stripped, broken 3rd gear

The bearing we thought failed had indeed failed, see the split out case

Sits on the gear stick input shaft

Good news is Nick can do in the the bike if you get it before failure, if you have a tenere ring Nick at 30k and book it in, cost less than 3 cartons of beer

Cases being split

Piston looked incredibility good for 50k

Bore still has cross hatch

Piston is a forged item and measured up with no wear  Some slight wear in the top ring land but thats to be inspected

Heads in great condition, looks good a side benifet or fuel injection

Other than the broken dog on 3rd gear the box and the rest of the engine is in like new condition I am amazed
3rd gear, missing half the dog teeth

As you can see there is no wear on the remaining dog teeth

james wrote:TB is this something completely unexpected for a bike with these klm on it :unsure:Or is this what i can look forward too/dread happening to my tenere
Not at all mechanically minded but it looks rather expensive :pinch:
Yes and no James, I ride it for all I can all the time. If I had known about the bearing in the picture I would have replaced it, Nick can do it in the bike it turns out. $35 and happy days, mine split the bearing causing it to not select correctly and result a broke gear

If you look closely you cab see the split in the bearing outer
