micknmeld wrote:TB always has 2 GPS units, just in case one fails. After that you break out the trusty old poor mans GPS. A Map.
Neither GPS failed, sometimes you just need to get a map out to get your own bearings if that makes sense. Its like the GPS is telling you one thing and you internal compass is telling you another
micknmeld wrote:Day 3Gotta give it to TB, if he cant fix it, it is stuffed. Here he is doing his best to fix Pete’s back wheel after it broke 11 spokes from continued abuse.
I did fix it  it is straight and true its just that Pete was offered Pezz’s bike for the saturday loop. It was a mission relacing it short 13 spokes but  (two broke as I was working on it
) the idea was to get it mobile and it is if it was all he hadTB
Scotty wrote:Would be interested in a report on the Big Ten TB. They do look like a nice beast. Its Steve’s bike and we have named it Elle (as in like Elle Macpherson) shes old, looks sexy and is a great ride  the last bit I can only vouch for the bike part. Its very fast and lots of fun
A detailed write will follow soon I just have to get my Tenere ready for the APC 4 day rally in less than 9 days and jam some work in as well

Bundyroy wrote:Do the cars do the the same track as the bikes? The years I have raced it Bundy there have been two loops, a west and an east. Cars would do the east day one while the bikes do the west and swap over the next day. Or cars do the west and vise versa
The second day navigation is easier as the car tracks have well and truly marked the track, (although some intersections can be confusing where they have turned around and around  ) the down side is the dust and bulldust created by the carsTB
I asked Hanna when I was at the retreat if I could use some of her photos on OBT and she said yes

I would like to thank the following on behalf of OBT as we (OBT) were asked to help with this event. We lead, swept and provided support vehicles and trailers. The guys and gals below were asked along to help, some got to ride but they knew they had a lot to do
Clare for driving Boulders 4×4 towing a trailer, being on the radio and always smiling
Boulder for sweeping and helping with bikes etc evening after the days riding was well and truly over and carrying a radio
Deejay was always helpful, towed a trailer behind his 4×4 picked stuff up for peeps and was always super helpful very helpful on the radio when we were leaving a stop and when I was left on my own stopped on long plain rd :cheer:
Lauren Deejays better half for coming along, helping Deejay was great having her along
Pete the postman wolf carried a UHF radio which was super helpful and was always lending a hand when required and had a sweep to give Kram a break
Kram carried a radio, swept and carried tyre levers and displayed patience all ride as the sweeps sometimes travelled very very slowly
I had a great time, being asked to lead this ride was special the 3 days driving around down there pre running and checking the route was fun. Watching guys like Andy get out of his wheel chair and ride all day was amazing how he made it through sections he did not to mention how FAST he was  Pezz on the big 460/4 getting along (well until Pete broke it
) was awesome.
It was a very busy weekend even when the riding was done fixing bikes, getting stuff setup and doing bits and bobs but so worth while and again thanks to everyone that pitched in and helped.
I fixed a postie (twice  ) BMWs, SR, XR, Steve’s 4×4
, exhaust on the super Ten, racks on a GT. Rode Pezz’s 460/4 pre Pete breaking the mascot bike
we traveled some beautiful trails and tracks and some very awesome fast tracks on the way home including Long Plain Rd which is always a fav
I kept running out of rear brakes on the Tenere because the fluid is ten plus years old  and boiled as soon as you looked at the brake twice  I had to cool it a few times but it added to the adventure like Micks shockI enjoyed the big Tenere, thanks to Steve for lending it to me

Crash just got of the phone to my brother regarding Ben as he was out there helping. Jack said he hit the Roo up at about 160 odd he was told  The back injuries are the biggest worry he also has shoulder and hand injuries apparently. Jack said he was air lifted and that his brother retired to stay at the crash site
I am sure Sb can add much more as he was there
Well done to Geoff Udy as well winning the auto’s ex bike racer and a bloody legend

An update on Chris and his travel partner after they left us at the scrapheap ride taken from her FB account
DAY ONE: the container we kept the rest of our oil in leaked all over Chris’ rutsack. Then we ran into a roadblock on the mountainside that forced us to backtrack for another hour, which turned into two because we were now short of petrol …and the town we backtracked too had construction going on at their station. Since the backtracking took us a total of three hours now, we’re left driving at night two inches from a cliff’s edge filled with kangaroos. You remember Chris doesn’t have headlights, right? We see six of them plus two dear in the next hour. By this time we’re driving at jogging pace so it’s not so bad, but you can bet your bike I never peeled my eyes off the side of the road after that.
DAY TWO: A LOT better than day one…but then Chris’ motorbike gets melted pretty badly back around the exhaust. The right back indicator is completely gone, a good portion of the surrounding plastic, and a nice chunk of the rutsack, which… lead to everything inside it catching fire (remember the oil?). Since we lost the tent, Chris decides it’s a great idea to drive to Melbourne tonight (instead of tomorrow like we “planned”)…in the freezing rain. With no rutsack to hold up my backpack, I had roughly 40 lbs (20kg???) to carry the entire way and no way to adjust myself. Poor Chris Hall took the majority of the wind and rain, but my jacket acted as an air vent so neither of us fared overly well. Nine hours we rode that day so we’re both stiff as a board by the time we hit Melbourne.
She signed on for an adventure
Welcome Mick, sounds as though you have started at the hard end and can now work your way back to a nice grade 4  well done champ
