We wont let the truth get in the way of a funny story. Here’s my explaination.

    1) that isn’t a gimp mask, it is a Mexican Wrestling mask, although now you mention it, it does look a bit like one.

    2) It wasn’t at the Sydney Mardi Gras , it was the Wauchope one. It appears that I was the only participant.

    3) Yes, I did get $500 for my trouble,

    4) I did it as a stunt for our local Radio station and Yellow pages. $500 is $500 in my book. If I think back, I could probably think of a couple of times I have done worse for less.

    5) I did the stunt with the full backing of my wife. Connor wouldn’t get out of the car though. :P

Blah blah blah seriously Mick you work for the media who can believe that cover up/ spin

    truth here people

Mick is trying to start his own Mardi Gras, cause as anyone that knows Mick he doesn’t like leaving Wauchope and he so wants to participate  So he has his own mardi gras, that’s why you got 500 dollars best costume (remember only one there ;) ) the rest is a cover up.

I have a set of Asterisk braces, I have had them for nearly 5 years I think. They have saved me once and are worth the around 900 bucks that you can get them for. (you will buy better if you look or put it to say Scott at Sutto’s)

    Saved here

    See here

Crash has a set so they get tested  , Boulder had a big one at Mick’s a few years ago and credits his with saving his knee, Nick has a set and Mal5.1 has a set. Cant help you anymore than that. I spend 6 months researching them and I thought they were the best of the over the counter braces IMO

    Good luck

Cheers Bender, I see they use deutsch electrical connector which is interesting as we have them at work, would make it easy to wire a set on the Tenere. Easy enough that I just ordered a set. I have been holding out regarding lights as we don’t ride in the dark, but there have now been two instances so I have invested

I will be doing a similar amount of riding over the next 2 years and would like the same wear if not more , does anyone think the TCX could do the same as the Gaernes ?

    Nick

I have owned and worn both for two years, I reckon there would be nothing between them. That said I will be buying Gaernes I reckon they maybe just a bit better IMO

I wear a pressure suit with hard plastic chest and back protector it is an EVS I think. I have had it for 6 years. I really wanted chest protection from sticks sticking into you after I witnessed an incident in the Watagans years ago. Back protector couldn’t hurt I figure. The hard plastic has padding inside best of both worlds I figure

Mick I believe you were saved from serious injury at Capertee because of that neck brace because if you tucked your head when it hit the ground first you would have hyper extented it

    My experience is

I have had two pairs and couldn’t fault either. Neither was treated well, truck wash and a high pressure clean at best. The first pair (2006 to 2009 by me included a lot of racing 4 day etc) was then used by a mate for a while and then I got them back and they have been passed onto Chris the pommy back packer.

The second pair looked like they would be as good but were stolen  without the booties do they were no good to the scum.

I now wear Gaerne SG10s (last 2.2 years but they are starting to leak, I wear them adv riding and other so they have done a heap of miles, read lots) and rate them, I only bought them because I couldn’t get the TCXs straight away when I needed them. I will get Gaernes next either 10s or 12s or maybe Sidi crossfires because I can get a better deal then non stocked TCXs

I find pivot pegs reduce the damage to the soles and my boots last heaps longer

There is a group of bikes and support cars going up from Narrabri to the gulf around that time too TB. I think it’s last week July and first 2 weeks August. Don’t think they are going to the tip, just the western side of the cape. They are riding from here and I don’t know their itinerary yet but if you happen to come across an unruly looking bunch they are guaranteed to have rum if you have run out. Last trip they carried the port in 10L jerry cans. Some of the support vehicle passengers are a bit partial to the festive beverages.

Sounds like a fun trip  There are only 4 of us going because we have a chance to access some private property thus we will be able to ride some tracks not open to the public, that and we will spend a day or two at my uncles beach front holiday house at Airlie Beach and he didn’t want to many people there

Has anyone done any of the organised ones up there

    What can you expect??

I haven’t done a pay tour up there Bob but we did stay at Punsands bay in 2004 up there the same time as one of their tours and spoke with some of the blokes doing it. They said they had access to some private property that we couldnt get onto. They were riding DRZs that looked as though they had seen some hard miles but they said were reliable. They had done a lot of the stuff that we had done. They looked well supported and were having a good time. The 2004 ride was one I organised with some mates we had our own tour guide that and we paid his way and provided the vehicle for him to drive. It worked wel and we just told him what we wanted to do and see and the time which wanted to do it. We included days off to watch the Australian GP and Bathurst 1000
If you haven the time etc to organise your own ride etc a fly into Carins and ride would be worth it
