Both Dan and Chris said you cant load a 690 up like we do and ride them where and how we do with the stuff we do because you will break the back of them  I know I asked the question cause it looks ok The twin tanks only hold 9 litres more fuel than a standard 690. The fairing looks good but ;)

They come standard with rear pegs so KTM must be reasonably confident that if you throw your misses or kids on the back the thing isn’t going to snap in half a mile down the road. With the added bracing of the pannier racks i would think 20 kilo of gear should be no drama. As a matter of fact my 690 carries less weight with me and my gear then your 530   [/quote]

The quote you have used above Deano is from two KTM salesman, the people that sale them why would they say it if it wasnt true  . If you think it will carry 20 kilos over hill and dale do it. Fact is they are known for not having any subframe strength same as an XR650 for example. If you need to make it personal like your last line to justify whatever knock yourself out champ!

Nicks racks needed extra bracing and remember Mal doing some extra welding to yours right after buying it.. Yes the bike was fine for the weight but there was some bracing done to the Big Tens..

Mine has never had any frame welding, Mal modified the home made racks they came with mine read the story in the 10k thread. Nicks Barrett racks and mine had braces added to the racks to stop side movement, further to that I told them from the start they would need bracing but they didnt agree until Nicks broke. They are now the same as the racks on Eagle’s bike

Sensitive lot you KTM guys

Look forward to your new KTM thread Krusty

Ummmm I am sure Mick has repaired the rear and or braced his. The sales people are saying the rear of the bike won’t take it

BTW Krusty the thread title should be blue, red and yellow shouldn’t it :P

6mm is what I need. Three are metric thread but the forth is a self taper that some wood duck put in there in the past. Nothing is ever easy when dealing with older bikes!

You will find the “wooduck” also put them in other fairing mount lugs. That bike is full of surprises  BTW the “wooduck” in question lives in Bundaburg QLD

And your welcome re the plastic screw idea wooduck! :P

I know this may sound silly but try and get some plastic, yes plastic screws. If you use plastic screws, when you go over the hangers or hit the screen and it does happen you dont smash the new screen, the fairing its mounted to and cut your throat

The teneres use plastic screws, yes I said plastic

I have some spares I maybe able to give you they look the same size from memory B)

Looks good Mick, it may pay if you take it back for a tweak like you said on the phone to have the top lip curled up to kick the wind up and over at the end ;)
