Chuck in a Shorai battery from Sutto’s and shave off 2kg.

And you will lose more weight push starting your bike because the batteries are suspect IMO  Well the one I had kept going flat and finally failed. I was supposed to be twice as powerful as the standard one

    But yeah it was light

Seems when I choose to share my hard earned knowledge someone clutching at straws knows better. :(

I would think clutching at straws was a little hard ;) Lefty is Adventure riding a 450. Not a CRF but a 450. It could also be said that as you have stated on ADV rider an advantage you had when you did the Safari was that you rode a GHR customer bike and didn’t have to work on it thus reducing the actual mechanical input that you had with the bike. I do respect your opinion as you said you have done the miles and other haven’t. It could also be said ADV riding is different to riding a safari.
You may not know that Lefty builds race cars and rally cars for a crust and is a very knowledgeable person with an opinion like you

    Just saying is all :)

    Hey there Bols!

A soft/comfortable seat is a must. Reduce the vibrations through the handle bars, rubber mount, maybe some weight in the bar ends would help to reduce the vibes. I still need to try this. (TB suggestion) Or better still a set of flex bars. Soft Rallye Grips. Screen for wind buffet, good head light in case you get stuck and require to do some night riding, not ideal but better than a std candle. Pivot pegs are a comfort thing.

    More Later,

    Cheers Lefty

CRF’s have rubber mount bars standard, they twist at the the smallest hit

Screens are not needed, I even ride a naked sport bike, Screens are for softies & over rated IMHO

A set of Rallye foam grips maybe, although a few people think Renthal Dual Compound Kevlar grips are better, especially if you don’t like bulky grips.

A Set of Fastway F3 pegs are the go, can be run at standard height or 10mm lower. Much better than the mini bike pegs that come on the CRF.

Lots of options there Bollocks, try what you can as opinions as like arseholes everyone has one
Actually everyone that I have seen fit a screen that we ride with like them, I have soft grips and Nick has hard ones Lefty rode his bike to Baturst and got pins and needles Nick doesnt everyones different  . I like pivot pegz I also have a set of fastway pegs but prefer the pivots like SB doesnt like pivots.

Take it all in work it out for yourself, listen to those you trust and ride like you (in your case a crash test dummy  )

If you’re anal about bike weight Bob this will hurt, 129kg according to Yamaha’s own specs. Thats with 7 litres of fuel. Your current WR will be a fair bit lighter than that even though it carries more fuel. 129kg will surely make the new WR the heaviest 450 on the market.

It will also be interesting to see what the race teams do, I think most enduro teams at the moment are running the YZ. We’ll have to wait and see if they go for the WR or stick with the lighter YZ.

A lesson learnt last weekend is claimed bike weights mean nothing Scotty. We used Leftys digital race car scales and weighed all the bikes there and the results in my opinion arent even close to what they are printed as.

Actually 129 kilos with 7 litres of fuel is OK Spuds 06? steel frame was 130 neat full of fuel. Even if you add 4 litres of fue to the 2012 WR it would only be 131 odd kilos and Lefty 450 weighed 129 full of fuel

A cush drive is a great idea for sure, although I haven’t purchased one yet for the Kato 450 and have had no problems at all with the gearbox in it, however I will in future.
From my experience with a dual purpose enduro/adv bike would be a soft/comfortable seat is a must. Obviously adv gearing is a must to reduce engine speed and get better fuel economy.

    More Later,

    Cheers Lefty

All good ideas there. The cush drive is a must a 450 gearbox of any make will not last long term fast open running. It was a lesson learnt by the big teams when 450s started at Yellow Mountain, Finke, Safaris etc
I think with enough mods they will do alright. For me the jury is out as to engine life for a 450 as they arent designed for long periods of high load and tall gearing does create that as well as soft ground, head winds etc. That said if you only do the odd ADV rides, maybe not the big west ones keep the loads down umm. Just my thoughts Leftys is proving otherwise thus far

Interesting choice for long rides though,,, CRF450
You will be tired after a long day  More ready for a cold beer or twenty I suppose :woohoo:

The Cush Hub is a must, will make a big difference and give you more life from chain & sprockets too ;)
    Good Luck

Since weight seems to be a big issue about the place if he has a padded arse why we he be more tired than riding a ktm 690 ???

Ha ha so right Bob   but then Eagle is normally home before lunch :P
