Well it’s time for me to try this idea as I have run out of cheap genuine cush drive rubbers :( The set in my bike have done 4600 km and is causing a vibration at 4000rpm that will give your feet pins and needles in mins  honestly not even 5000 kms and there are rooted. I cut some rubber pieces today in between painting when the minister wasnt looking  and will try them out tomorrow

Day 3 dawned a cracker of a day in Nundle. I was looking forward to the days riding, because we had a bloody long way to go and because Bollocks always pulls an awesome ride out of somewhere.

The tent was rolled up and I rode across the road for a big breakfast and some fuel for the big Ten. Soon they arrived in dribs and drabs for breakfast and to await our fearless tour guide.

We left and headed out towards Barry station, Deejay and I swept again so as to make sure we did out time at the back as well as the front. There was rocky creek crossing after rocky creek crossing and I soon found myself looking for the next one rather than shitting the gear every time one appeared  It was beautiful country and I will be going back to Nundle to ride this section again real soon. (actually will do the whole three day ride again but in two days instead for shits and giggles)

We stopped at the Packers ranch / property / small country and Bollocks told some bed time style stories while we all sat and listened :) But it wasn’t bed time so away we went for Monnan flat. I said to Deejay I would like to keep going when we got to Moonan Flat so the decision was made on the blue tooth because of the distance we still had to travel through some off what was unknown country we would stand and run. Once at the Moonan I asked Beags if he and Deano were coming, he said bloody oath so they and Lefty grabbed some fuel and we left.

I had a route planned, first left turn was a blow out like all boy scouts I was prepared and the plan B was a cracker. We rode towards the Barrington Top National park while looking at the very very black clouds. We were also going through lots of creek crossings, Eags big kato had a dislike to them and was seen stopped on the far side bank nore than once with a fustrated looking Eags cranking the money taker back into life. We followed the blue line on the GPS and after a few turns came to a locked gate and a don’t go there sign

Back the the last Y intersection and away we went, although this soon lead to another gate. Deejay said lest go up the the shack / container and see if someone was there which we did. Ol mate came out and I had a chat to him, told him where we were going etc. He said bikes come through all the time, actually some had recently and he was worried they may not have closed the gates. I said we would go out that way and check the gates ;)  nice guy eh

We got going up the recommended goat track, up and up and up through ol mates paddocks

We keep going up and the thunder and lighting started and it started to rain so we stopped to put on wet weather gear

    b2c077e5.jpg

    1e9d8b75.jpg

It got dark just while we put wet weather gear on

    fe0dbdf8.jpg

In the couple of minutes I was stopped here taking the pictures and generally pissing around the storm rolled in see how much darker it is, was only two minutes I reckon

    81d9e99f.jpg

We rode in the storm up the hill, through sunny corner style rock farms, bog holes etc it was an awesome adventure in the wind, lightening, thunder and pissing rain. Once up the top and as a worried little birdy had said (an eagle  ) what goes up and up and up must go down. We got to and intersection, we were off the blue line but could see it if I panned out to 3 kms. After a quick chat it was decided that Lefty should go down the hill and have a sticky beak, after all he was on the lightest bike, he has a rekulse clutch and he has had a good life :P
After he went down the hill Deejay and I looked at one another and went “bugger should have given him one of the UHF radios” While I was waiting I rang Nickj, he checked the spot and said don’t go down there it drops 600m in 800 m or something scary like that. He then said turn left, then no don’t turn. There was no way out, or maybe there was  It’s hard looking at google earth bit he did a good enough job to help my next decision. After a long time Lefty appeared 3/4 up the hill, I tried to walk down to listen to what he was yelling but I was slipping just walking. The rain had stopped and I finally worked out that Ledty was giving a thumbs up. Eags was breathing into a brown paper bag  And like him I was shitting the gear, riding a 200 kilo bike plus gear and my fat arse down a hill I couldn’t stand on  Told Eags to ring his family and tell them he loved them   and away I went. Front and back wheels locked more than once with feet out dead engine for most of the way. I did get back on the pegs with the engine running near the bottom incase Lefty had the camera out

Doesnt do it any justice, you can see Lefty getting back on

    72adda9d.jpg

Lefty did a mighty job getting back up to where he did ;)

First 1/8 down looking back up

    9fbbe577.jpg

So we regrouped, I rang Nickj who had been ringing saying yes no yes no  I gave him the name of the farm stay on the gate behind us. He looked it up gave us a location and we headed down the hill on a washed out rough 4×4 wheel drive track. We finally came to a gate and property and rode out onto a decent dirt road. Only drama now was all the rain from the storm was running down the hills and the creek crossings Nick had warning me about were up and running hard. A couple looked worse then they were, deepest was about 3 inches below the seat area. Eags had a whoops into the bank and required some assistance as his leg was pinned ( in the other photo he stuck his middle finger up, proving again he is a dirty bird :P )

    f7c93191.jpg

We had eaten since Nundle (the big breakfast paying dividends now  ) so we shot straight to Hungry Jacks. From there it was a slab to Sandy Hollow we fueled and I tried a track out the back to bypass the 400m section of private land but it didn’t even seem to start. We went around to the start of the 400m section. I was sure you just lifted the chain, Eags didn’t seem as sure so I rang Mickp (he was there in June ) and away we went. There was a track along the commission track that I had seen years ago and I thought it may join up so we turned off and followed it to a creek and what would be a good camping area. We hit a gate ( locked) so we went back, it was a great fun detour and I will use the camp area in the future. From there it was a simple run to the Putty road. Eags and Deano bolted we had thought about doing Yengo but decided against it mostly because that only left us going home through Wisemens and we had come up that way. We would have made StAlburns on dark I reckoned. We slabbed the Putty rd, swapping bikes and having fun. It had been a great days riding, a big days riding with very few breaks. The hill and storm episode has seen us travel 3 kms in and hour and three quarters

Thanks Deejay, Lefty, Eags and Deano for a great trip home. Bolls for a great leg, Moose had also taken us on a great loop to Nundle. Thanks for the track, storm and other remote help Nick

Welcome Squizzy check out the WR250R mate heaps lighter than a DR same maintenance routine they are trouble free and soooooo much lighter than a DR400 great bikes to learn on that will last for years. There a two WRs the F and the R the R is fuel injected and requires far less maintance then the F which is a race version. I used to ride with a bloke that rode one, it flew and he couldn’t kill it. It will suit you and your son better. Try getting a few test rides as well

    Hello all,
I hail from Victoria and i definately qualify for the forum title. I have a klx 450, had it about 6 months now, great bike, probably bit too much bike for my skill level, seem to put it down a fair bit. I have ridden bikes in my younger years then had a lean spell for lots of years with kids, home ,work etc,but got back into it a few years back, started back on a chinese 250, which really wasnt bad at all, lots of maintainance and bits break easy but lots of fun.
I ran the Stockmans rally, with my son a couple of weeks back was tough, really showed up my skills and age, but enjoyed the experience even with my confidence shot to bits.
If i had my time again i would probably get a 250 instead of the 450 but im stuck with it now, just have to improve my skills.Having said that this damm bike really has some go! 😆
Anyway good to be on the forum.

Welcome Millsy, sorry missed your intro earlier mate. You have a familiar story there with the work and kids etc
You will have to catch up with Aido our man in Vic when he gets a bike that is :P

Welcome again look forward to catching up next time I do an Old Bulls ride in Vic

Well I woke at Micks feeling well good  (never happened like that before) we had a late start so it was a fairly casual get ready and up to the take away for a bacon and egg roll, two dim sims and a powerade. (didn’t really know what was happening re lunch so I stocked up  ) we met down outside Timbertown. Lefty checked the underside of my bike out when he pulled up, it wasn’t the last time either on the weekend he looked under my bike when he stopped  I thought he was falling off cause of his short legs, but he said he just wanted to check everything out

Away we went following Moose and watching Puddles, waiting for him to go home :P It was great ride along the mountain ridge for a while there. Deejay and I swept although I had a couple of racy moments I generally behaved myself. Strucky pulled up and said he couldnt change gears, I thought shit that doesn’t sound good but it was only a rock  we crossed a river creek thing with Deejay creating the biggest bow wave I have seen for years :silly: Tip young fellow, shut your visor :P

We continued on, I was getting sore neck muscles from watching Eags. Now for a guy who’s avatar signature says roll in on slow he was at that moment like a deer with no eyes :P He had about 3 BIG moments on the slippery surface and he was going to get hurt  soon he had the mighty Kato under control and we ran out to the Oxley Hwy. When we were away at Camerons there were a few drag races and my Tenere was undefeated ;) But the general feeling from the losers was that my bike was unloaded (yes even with my fat arse on  ) so on this ride I offered Deejay a crack at the title even though this time he was riding an unloaded bike and mine was loaded and had my fat arse on board. Well what can I say, winner winner chicken dinner for the Tenere :woohoo: After that was settled Toes who didn’t know what’s was going on sped past, I chased hard and even though I topped out on the private section at 171 (speedo) he was gone

A snack and fuel at Gingers creek and back up past where we joined, then back to the dirt out through Nowandoc (spelling) Deejay and I just about wore a set of brake pads out stopping every 10kms for Lefty, seems as though he has a Chinese bladder  or iis taking his lining out or putting it back in or something  But it was good cause it stopped us running into the groups dust all the time. It tried to rain and the run down the hill into Nundle on knobbies in the wet wasn’t fun

We arrived at the caravan park and paid for our sites. Setting up camp is second nature at the minute, it was actually discussed and worked out that I had spent more nights in October in my tent or away riding than at home

Sorry no pictures from today and I failed to mention the many black snakes we saw  one made me squeal like a girl

It was a great night as per the Xmas party ride report

So we left home on time, slabbed it to Wisemans where Lefty topped his fuel. A quick ferry ride and we rode up through St Alburns. Onto the dirt proper and away we went, there was heaps of water around the Common

    53024699.jpg

From there it was into the Watagans, the road crew had been out and cleaned all the edges and drains with a dozer which and ripped the roads up which would be ripper :woohoo: Well it had rained and rained it appeared buy the grader hadn’t  It made it very interesting, big long two wheels drifts while going straight on a big ADV bike is a huge attention getter :P
We soon turned into the mountain bike track area to head over to Freemans waterhole. It was wet with many a bog hole to keep you on your toes, all was well until Deejay had a little lay down. No harm done we thought at first, but it turned out he had broken the top bolt on his right hand pannier bracket. We pulled it all apart, fixed it and repacked but we had lost sometime. I rang Eagle and we met Deano and Eags after a quick slab up the last bit of the F3. After a quick hi we left and got to Buladelah as fast as we could. It was almost 12 and we hadn’t even had lunch  once all that was sorted and more fuel for Lefty we hit the dirt. Between there and Wauchope we did as much dirt as we could time permitting

    697a1427.jpg

    a8a9f330.jpg

There was a bog hole section while on the phone to Mick :pinch:

    164049cc.jpg

Once in Wauchope went straight to the bottle shop and got me a cartoon on Bundies to strap to the back of the Tenere with Deejays Jacks. Lefty was seen heading for Micks with his shopping bags on the handle bars ;)

Once at Micks it was on like Donkey Kong. It was a good night, Eagle left early as usual but sadly took Moose, Kram and Deano with him  Mean while at the shed party it got weird

Lefty practicing his causeway crossing but it was a waste of time.

    e4da5dac.jpg

Then he took his pants off

    6d08761b.jpg

But still he tried other bikes, practice makes perfect Lefty :P

Deejay just watched on looking snappy

Mick just wondered what was happening as normal :silly:

Then things just got hazy

Well done all involved Boony, Bolls, Snow and crew. I have to admit it was funny listening to Snow and Boony talking about the weekend and what goes into organising and running a big weekend  You guys did a great job.
Bolls thanks for my stubby holder and the ride from Nundle to Moonan Flat pub. The Peel Inn is awesome, the caravan park is awesome also, as is all the tracks I rode past getting to and from Nundle I am sure from what everybody was saying. Murph your performance around the fire was as funny a thing as I have every seen :P How about Toes telling Murph that he loved him in the bible
Seeing Toes hangover :pinch: It hurt to look at him. Great effort King for a half days ride, guess that’s why you are for the next 7 months
