Soon the ring ins started rolling in, remember this guy?

Lefty had a heap of input when he returned Gaz’s DR400 for me to finish, he is his best work

The VSM peg lowering kit was fitted and the Pivot pegz MK3

The wolfman racks from Adventure Moto

The Eagle screen from Sutto’s

Polisport front guard Sutto’s

Goodridge braided front brake line and 660 anti boil fluid from Lefty, this stuff doesnt boil it has been said your caliper rubbers will catch fire first

Bark busters fro Adventure Moto

Spot 2 and ram mount from Adventure Moto

Heated grips and pillow tops Sutto’s

More later
After hearing about Fish breaking his on the recent Tony Kirby ride we got Sutto’s to chase up a alloy brace for the chain guide

Minutes later it was naked

We looked at the standard exhaust with the catalytic converter weighed a tonne and said that has to go

New and light, sounds great. We dealt with Jason at Barretts direct, Jason does awesome work makes great full systems and slip ons. Jason is proudly Australian and his pipes are all made on site. how good are his exhausts, well they are used by GHR, team KTM at Finke and the Safari to name but a few. Watch this space for a new OBT supporter

Next was the MSC damper sourced from Sutto’s. Standard bars and stuff stripped off and bar mount fitted

All done

Renthal fat bars fitted, bark busters, heated grips and pillow tops

Then we bought in a DR650 specialist who shall remain nameless, call him the Stig of DR650’s

So about 10 days ago DeeJay comes to me and says I want an adventure bike lets make it happen. We decided we would utilise the OBT sponsors for the whole build. Some off the components were sourced from other shops but through the OBT sponsors. It needs to be said here that we saved over 1800 bucks over RRP because OBT discounting/
So DeeJay fronts Sunday morning on the 81km old DR650 purchased from site supporter Mud N Tar in Wauchope. The purchase started with a call to the Mayor, he rang me back I rang Rod and sorted a deal and DeeJay took it from there.
Sunday Morning at my place

DeeJay had purchased a heap of stuff including a full Kilm Traverse riding suit which he has on in the above picture. The Kilm gear was purchased fro Adventure Moto along with the Wolfman Racks, Wolfman soft panniers, Wolfman top bag, Spot tracker 2, Ram mount for the Spot, Wolfman bottle holders, Bark Busters, B&B bash plate, B&B rear rack, Pivot Pegz 3, VSM peg lowering kit, VSM frame guards and straps etc Big thanks to Steve for the massive OBT discount
Some of the parts ready Sunday morning

Ready and waiting

Sutto’s supplied Michelin ultra heavy duty tubes, rim locks, Dunlop 606 tyres, Eagle Screen, Braided front brake hose, Renthal fat bars, MSC under bar mount damper, heated grips, Shoei Hornet helmet, 30 litre Safari tank and much more. Thanks to Scotty for getting everything so fast and for the OBT discount
81kms old Sunday Morning

Bash plate goes on before the bike went on the lift stand

OWL 02 wrote:TB,Yes agreed, we have spoken on the phone re my earlier post and sorted things out in the main. To be fare to all concerned and I might add that I am not here to complain about the way in which this ride is being organised however, I am doing this for a couple of reasons.
1. Never been there. Either have I
2. Some thing I need to prove to myself that I can do. Why? just front up buy me a Rum and have a good time
3. After last years attempt, I do believe that the others going including myself were invited. Yeah maybe a moment of weakness on my behalf, if I invited you all does that mean I can un invite you
4. I’ve spent to much money on this trip already not to go. Shit you dont even have my bill yet :laugh:Now stop rooting around and get my bike ready will ya. On it captain

* I have read your last post and I am not sure who you refer to as “we”.
The we is Nick and I we have planned and organised this ride, you have chosen to come of your own free will
* When you say we are planning to camp every night, once we leave Cameron’s, it would be nice to know if this is all nights. In the past I do believe that this was also planned however, didn’t happen
Yes we are planning to camp EVERY night, it may not happen but it is the plan be aware its an adventure ride
* Lunch locations can’t be guaranteed (happy with that) however, I had planned on taking 7 meals (dinner every day) how the hell am I supposed to carry enough grub to last me until it suits (we) that we stop and waste some time in a town as you put it.
We will all need to restock along the way that goes without saying, you have the same bags the same space. I dont want to stop at every town but we will be stopping and restocking
* This ride is meant to be suitable for amatures like me and maybe 1 or 2 others.
This ride is a ride I want to do, you have wanted to tag along. I am not your mother you are a grown adult and I expect you to ride within your own limits. Again there is a certain amount of ground that needs to be covered everyday, after its all said and done it is an adventure ride. Gaz I wouldnt place you in harms way anymore than myself we ride motorbikes they are dangerous
In summation,
This is not Boot camp. If I wanted that, I would have joined the Army
to join the army https://www.defencejobs.gov.au/recruitmentcentre/default.aspx
I’m going on an adventure ride, not some Military, hard nosed, crazy race over 8 days. Maybe this ride ain’t for me.
It isnt a race, where did I say it was a race? I didnt, it will be an adventure but, That may mean some long days, it may take you out of your comfort zone, there maybe sand, mud, animals, cars, drunks, trashy trailer park hoes, hot days, cold nights, rain, sun etc I dont know, but there will be early starts and some late finish days. THERE WILL BE NO NIGHT TRAVEL. Hard nosed, ummm maybe sometimes because sometimes that has to be to make stuff happen. There are somethings I want to do on MY ride
If the obove is correct, don’t bother fitting all the new bits to my bike as I won’t be going.
We just spoke on the phone, I hadnt replied, we spoke you said go ahead and do your bike is that still the case now I have replied
Upset anybody here, don’t care. This is Bull SH&T
Upset no, explained this so there will be no saying I didnt know yes. It isnt BULLSHIT its actually my ride
Grumpy Now, Hope your happy now and still coming mateHey and next time just ring me its easier
WOW thats the bull by the horns Kat  Will watch with interest, I know the rally the details, the costs the route etc very very well as Nickj and I thought about doing last years. In the end thought we would let the first one run and see what happened and read the reports, also the reported tracks would have made 500kms per day hard, it seemed as though there was a lot more tar than the advertised 380kms. We are looking at it as well next year but as we only have 4 – 5 weeks avaiable all year and want to go over to WA as well we may not do the APC but will let you know.
Like you last huge ride if there is anything with bike prep or gear sourced you want a hand with just give me a yell
Go you good thing!!!

In a few years you may eat those words TB, you just never know.Mate I hope he does, he didn’t know what a Murphsberg was until we got home and I showed him. Those guys are nuts he said
Told him the day he passes me and fills me in is the day he supports his own bike riding  He said he will pass slowly
TB
When you say pro riders Mick you know that in Australia we have only about 10 full pro enduro racers (pro meaning only income that’s all they do) the rest are support racers that work during the week etc. They maybe sponsored but aren’t pro.
Great report and pictures, would have loved to be there. If they are on again next year will there for sure. Good to see the XR going around all day Mick, those dudes yelling out must have been funny  Well done to Moose and Mick and everyone that made it happen
Yes Rebore when they invent a camera that makes hills as steep as they are people not there will understand. Good on Sam for giving the penny a crack that’s balls mate a long way to fall.
Is Matt Phillips a local boy Mick? Was it a big bore kitted YZ a Ballard team bike?
More photos please
