EAGLE`02 wrote:SPOT 3 ??? IS there any probs with the old one, or are you testing & upgrading for the heck of it ???
These things are getting more confusing the more I look into it :laugh:A little from column A and a little from Column B
A spot 2 like the King says will do you fine, the 3 has the ability to receive texts from a smart phone and then send to people which suits what Nick and I plan to do next year when we are away for 4 or 5 weeks. Still does everything else same as a two as well
Will post some pictures later

What happens or what is said on rides stays on rides! LOL
The guest rider was added to the list Toes I am told when he was away, he didn’t even know he was on the list
Given how much he rides and spends time away riding I am sure Mick knows what I am talking about

These stands are good gear, the bead breaker is worth its weight in gold. Not running mousse tubes anymore Mal?

badbowie wrote:Something you guys with spots may need to look at. When I got mine 2.5 years ago there must have been somewhere on the register page about auto renewing your subscription after 12months??????Well 12 months went by and I had no real use for the spot so it didn’t concern me my subsciption was going to expire. In that twelve months my credit card had also expired. Spot continually tried to debit my now expired credit card until the point I received letters of demand seeking money for that whole period. The spot was not operational during this time.
I basically told them to eat a d#ck. Well I got a very long letter apologising about the whole deal and they will let it slide THIS time.
BUT it will be interesting if I ever try to start up my spot again what charges they try to hit me with
Yes I have heard of them auto renewing the subscription, which is OK for my forseeable future but your point is well and made and should be noted by everyone that has one. I heard you have to send them an email before the subsrcription runs out stating that you are terminating the subscription or something along those lines
TB
Ok I am testing there service now myself. I have obtained a new spot tracker 3 and am asking can someone’s existing account and credit be transferred from old spot to a new spot if you catch my drift.
I have just send the email so the clock is ticking

he has spent and bought gear and Wolfman bags / racks etc but work commitments have him by the short and curlys. Having just been away with him recently on his ride he will be missed. There is a fill in ready to take up the challeges one of the ride and two of being ChrisT’s partner  His name will be announced soon.
The tee shirt offer by Nick has seen only two peeps respond which is disappointing considering how much people liked last years, or did they like the fact that Nick paid for last years I wonder
There will be a telephone hook up on a Sunday coming to you soon watch for a date. There will also be an amount of money from each person for the sat or sat phones. The recommended accommodation for the pre ride saturday night at Lighting Ridge will be given out so accommodation can be booked. There are only two planned accommodation nights, Saturday night the 8th at the Ridge and Cammerons corner if they have accommodation whenever we get there. (it won’t be booked ahead because who knows what may happen or when we get there)
Remember there are minimum maintenance and wear item replacement requirements for this ride, if they aren’t done and cant be proven that they have been done there will be no going on the trip. We don’t have the benefit of a support vehicle to throw the bike on, we won’t be passing bike shops every couple of days so the requested bits are to be replaced or stay home. It isn’t fair for 11 others to sit on the side of the track because you think your wheel bearings should be ok, or you thought your chain and sprockets would be ok. Brand new the weeks before or not at all. It also isn’t fair if we ride on and leave you on the side of the track is it? If you have a problem with that PM me or stay home. My bike will be checked as will yours at Lighting Ridge, the list of stuff that needs to be replaced / renewed before the ride
The route is almost finished, if you want a copy turn your GPS tracker on and when you get back you will have a copy.
Reread the first post it has the maintenance requirements, the updated riders list etc it has been updated and will continue to be updated as it gets closer.
Kram’s out
yup sad but true he is getting married :laugh:He is coming to the Grafton send of he reckons

First post has been amended to suit

Lefty wrote:Hey Jimmy, the biggest killer of CRF, WRF, YZF valves etc and most other manufactuers with titamium valves is not the air filtration, because if it was the bore and rings would be rooted and the piston skirt would probably be scuffed. And in most instances bore, piston, rings etc are ok. After many hours of engine building, then disassembly and inspection and after consultation with many other people experienced in the field both here and overseas.
The main reason is that the valves in these bikes are manufactured from a compressed titanium powder not a billet. (Cheap to manufacture) They have a hardened external surface which after time the valve seat actually work hardens and becomes far harder than the valve; which in turn breaks through the surface hardening of the valve. Then the valve seating surface pounds away at the seat and starts to take the same shape as the seat. Then slowly loosing valve clearance till there is none and the bike won’t start as it has no compression. It is called Valve Recession.
This is also a common problem with the Toyota BEAMS 3SGE engines that I build for rallying. (The cylinder Heads are manufactured by Yamaha and they have the same valves). Another reason for this is cam profile, but this is a story for another day.
The fix for this is alternative valve seat/valve combination, and I don’t mind saying this as the best people to sort this out is RAMS Head Service in Windsor.Hope this helps a little to understand this “Valve Recession” issue.

Cheers,
LeftyNow Lefty let me start my saying your knowledge of performance engines is way above my level and I agree with what you have written above but not all valve recession is because of that
If dusting has nothing to do with it why is it only the inlets. I have done enough dusted bikes here in the last few years to say I have seen dust evidence that destroyed inlet valves, yet piston and bores have been ok. I know what your are saying we see the results of dusting at work
Why in the past has CRFs suffered not WRs if they have the same style valves
Why did only the GHR bikes that raced off road as opposed to their motard bikes (when they did a few seasons) close inlets, yet they admit the motard engines got flogged harder. No dust motard remember or no where near as much
Why with the use of new filters every filter service did they extent valve life to over 100hrs (can be no residual dust left in a new filter eh)
Not arguing that valve recession can be and is caused in some cases from material failure as you stated
Lastly RAMs do good work but after seeing some of their bills they don’t mind charging, which is ok if your the builder passing it on
