Quote:TB,Let me know how many people required at Sunday’s meeting that can’t actually attend.I should be able to set up a bridge for them to dial into. All we need at Boulders is a hands free telephone. Hopefully Bouder has a land line we can use. The bridge will be Sydney based, so it’s a local call from his place. I have a H/Free phone if required.
I’m attending on behalf of Krusty with instructions to say either SURE or I SUPPOSECheers 02
Thats great Gaz but let me explain and break it down to english
Gaz has setup a CONFERENCE CALL NETWORK you will get a PM with a time on Sunday a phone number and a pin number. You will ring the phone number at the time, follow the prompts and enter the pin number and BANG!! Conference call like you are sitting there, without the visual side of course
Gaz isnt going on the ride but has already been a big help behind the scenes with this his generator etc
Would those not attending and require the details for the call in on Sunday morning please PM me
TB

Hey Gus welcome mate
Keep the updates during the ride. Remember thats a ridiculously long way on a postie, but it is a Honda so it will make it no worries
7.5 raw horsepower :laugh:TB
BumpNext meeting to discuss the final points of this trip will be at Berowa (Address to be PM’ed later) on Sunday the 26th of September at 10.30am. It would be best if as many of the people going attend this or be available for a conference style call at some stage
Also a weather update from elders

Quote:I better let you guys know I’m preparing for this ride.I set up the camp in the back yard yesterday. Packed it up this morning
Does that mean you had a little sleep out
I’ve improved the fuel consuption by not ringing the neck out of it
Got to say we dont need any ringing the neck out of them on this trip
and found I can pick up a DR650 from lying on it’s side while it is fully loaded.
Yeah I can pick mine up but its a struggle am aiming to do the whole trip without picking it up though

The things you learn, eh.Other preparation was having a cup of instant coffee. I managed…just. Now that’s roughing it.
Bollocks cant you do a barristers course before the trip
Sorry Nick
I repacked my bike today, moved some of the gear, got the weight reduced and lower I feel. I now have all my emergency overnight gear in the rear top dry bag. Moved the first aid kit to my camelback for faster access (even though we wont need it
)
I fitted and wired my new hour meter, and fitted some of Boony’s Roo whistles

Replaced the missing bolt from the bash plate, rewired the 12volt supply socket (cause it was only working when the heated grips were on   )
I took it to the servo with a dry tank (run out going to the servo I added 1 litre to get there) there I squeezed 22.5litres in so it must be a 23odd litre tank :blink:TB
How did you fix the flat Jeffro?? Did you get a tubeless repair kit or was it Finny Leak

Tight prologue course sets the field for Leg 1 of Safari
â˘Jacob Smith on KTM to start the field
â˘Mitsubishi Pajeros to start 1 & 2 in the Autos
â˘Craig Lowndes to start in fourth Auto positionLast yearâs second place winner in the Moto division, Todd Smith, will be first on Leg One of the Australasian Safari when the gruelling seven-day event takes off from Southern Cross in the Western Australian eastern wheatbelt tomorrow (Sunday 19 September).
Despite coming off his KTM 530 towards the end of the short 19.34km stage, Todd finished 19 seconds ahead of fellow NSW riders AJ Roberts on a Honda CRF 450, and Ben Grabham on his KTM 530.
Todd said he was happy about leading out tomorrow because it meant he wouldnât have to deal with as much dust.
âItâs probably a bit harder to be first out – thereâs no tracks to follow but thatâs also an advantage as I need to focus on my own navigation and will be less tempted to follow someone elseâs tracks.
AJ said he was also happy to be following Todd in first position and was looking forward to the week, following his forced retirement last year.
âTodd knows what heâs doing so itâs good to have him in front. Anything can happen over a week of racing but Iâm happy with my bike and this is an event where its as much about the natural elements as your skills or the machine,â he said.
Mitsubishi Pajeros were the standout in the auto division with Geoff Olham and John Doble from the Cairns Coconut team finishing first at 20mins 20seconds, and Tony Quinn and Toni Feaver in the VIP Petfoods team second fastest at 20mins 36seconds.
Craig Lowndes and Kees Weel finished the Prologue with the fourth fastest time at 20:52 and a few scratches on the Holden Colorado from the tight twists and turns of the course. Craig was happy with the time, but said the course today was a lot tighter than what he had practiced on.
âWe had a few first gear corners so Iâm hoping tomorrow the stages will open up and we can really get the car going,â Craig said.
Three-time Safari competitor Paul Smith on a Honda TRX700 was fastest in the Quad category at 20:52.
Tomorrowâs Leg One takes competitors north east to the goldfields town of Leonora with 356.79 competitive kilometres over three stages and a mid-leg service in Menzies. Total distance travelled will be 579km for the leg.
The course is expected provide a range of challenges including overgrown tracks, twists and turns through heavy sand, a crossing of the Trans Australia Railway line, salt lakes and heavy rutts, rough mine site roads and rocky terrain.
Considered one of the worldâs great endurance events, the Australasian Safari will travel from Southern Cross in the wheatbelt through to the historic Western Australian goldfields, desert, rugged bush and coastal sand dunes, finishing at Esperance.
