Quote:I was basing my opinion on Ant’s 530. It rattled when it was cold but stopped once warm,(this started at about 40hrs). I just wound out the cam chain tensioner untill I heard an audible “click” then wound it back in to the same place and all was good and it hasn’t rattled since. It had something to do with the size of the teeth on the ratchet set up in the tensioner. Apparently the later models were to have bigger teeth to eleviate the problem, although I haven’t confirmed the fact. Thanks that explains it. As its a later model it shouldnt be that but who knows, Chris explained it when we spoke as a tick should have an answer on Saturday arvo will check it all out

Will check it with Chris on saturday arvo guys but my understanding is that there was a noise when it was cold, the noise went away when the engine warmed up and never returned. Its only when cold at all rpms Temperature wont quieten a loose chain
Did KTM fix the cam chain tensioner issue with the 530’s cause you dont hear about it anymore? Was it mainly 530’s because I dont remember hearing of any others beside Ants and Rockets? (although my memory is not that good )

Your welcome Krusty. Its a very simple job and we should one day do it again with photos and a write for all the DR owners like yourself. Even having to remove the cam chain tensioner, hang the chain and remove the inlet cam if procedure is followed with and ounce of common sense its easy.
Can we borrow your bike when we get back from Cameron’s and do a tech video picture “How to do” segment?

Here is the METZELER – Catalogue but I am sure you have read that

They look as though they would do the miles easy, and it reads that way on the reviews I found.
Here is some chat on a http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129320&highlight=Metzeler+Enduro+Sahara+tyres.
I see guy talking about the Continental TKC 80s, I think thats the one I have ordered but I cant remember I will have to check with Mal  its a Continental something
Maybe ask Scott if its for the Wee Strom although he runs something thats VERY aggressive looking but he has the experience with them

So we can rule that out. After a phone call with Chris this morning (business and OBT runnings) we did some questions and answers, I am now inclined towards and exhaust leak at the header cylinder head joint. Why? Well because its a ticking noise that was only there when cold, when the engine heats up it goes quiet. As the thinner material header pipe heats fast the rapidly expanding pipe seals the leak until its cold next time. Well that’s what I have worked out without looking at it. Loose header flange bolts / nuts maybeTB
