Well an update on Chris. He left Micks last year and as instructed by Mick had new bearings fitted in QLD unfortunately unknown to Mick or Chris at the time the movement in the wheel when Mick fixed him up was a worn hub not bearings. Without new bearings at the time no one could know what was going on. Anyway before Christmas I think it was Chris had put a post up asking could anyone help him I offered knowing he was in QLD but thinking we may have been able to get one to him through the Old Bull network. Imagine my surprise when Chris said he would ride to Sydney in Feb if I could help  . He contacted me just before we left for Wauchope last weekend saying he was on his way down the coast. I bought him a 2nd hand wheel last week for $150 that I was told had worn bearings (remember Mick had thought the same thing as the XR600 has a threaded retainer that stops you checking) so I organised for Chris to run out home from the City where he is staying to fit the wheel. I met him up the road and he followed me home, we said hi and had a beer. The poor old XR sounds great, starts easy but needs some love. It needs a oil change SO BAD, couple of oil leaks fixed, brake pads replaced, air filter done (he has never done it, ever  )

I removed the wheel and went to fit the new bearings I got for his 2nd hand wheel. Guess what, yup the hub is rooted on the 2nd hand wheel  . I have two sets of 650 wheels but no discs as the discs are bigger and the mounting bolt holes are different. So after a rethink a plan has been hatched. I centre punched the hub he got from Mick and loctited the bearing in. The threaded retainer is pretty rooted so I tightened it and centre punched see here

Because he is doing some big remote miles over the next 12 months as he heads around Australia. Tomorrow Salina will take the 2nd hand hub down to Teknik’s and have Nick sleeve it for a new bearing thus reconditioning the hub. He is coming back next Saturday and I will fit two 2nd hand new to him tyres that I have here and supply him with a spare or two whatever he can carry. I will give him a couple of 2nd hand standard tubes (he has none and I have heaps of them here when I fit ultras for peeps) I have 2nd hand throttle and clutch cables here from my XR600 days that have been kicking around here for 6 years, I have some spare gear levers, and heaps of other XR600 shit and have told him if he can carry it he can have it. One mans trash is another mans treasure

It will get an oil change, air filter done and I will get some oil seals for the clutch and gear start shafts and fix them and some new front wheel bearings. (Can give him a set of second hand ones for front and back) It’s a win all round I get rid of some 2nd hand tyres that are OK but I wouldn’t use normally and would cost me to dump. The XR600 stuff I have kept for some unknown reason goes to someone that needs and can use it. Salina is stoked as I gave him my Rjays ADV helmet today, I hate that thing only used it about 5 times and hated it and she is always telling me to get rid of some of my helmets  (back to 10 now  )Might see if I can find an exhaust shield to replace the tin foil aftermarket one he has fitted

Will take some pictures next weekend, and enjoy the day as he is living in the middle of the city at the moment with Hippies

I am not having a go at you it was lifted it was a paragraph and said that and yes it was the preparation thread. Let me tell you from someone that spent two weeks with Chicken and Factoryphil working for “a” team including preparing customer race bikes for a major australian race you would be very surprised as to what goes on behind closed doors and what customers who pay mega bucks actually get
against what they think they are getting or told they are getting
they had two truck mechanics and a plant fitter building the bikes in a shed in the town te race was held from and the same three clutching at straws while they did the suspension settings for riders at a place like say Deep Wells
Like has been said we all have opinions, racing is different to ADV riding, road riding sports bikes are different to 10 hrs on a dirt bike, people are they doing ADV riding on 450s, you raced the Safari so in the end yours and everyone’s opinions are valued
None of this is helping Bollocks or his thread.
Bollocks any update on the build or engine rebuild. Have you ordered the flywheel weights yet :laugh:TB

Bloody rain, recieved this tonight
Dear Ténéré Tragics,
After much consideration, it is with great regret that we have decided to POSTPONE the 2012 Ténéré Tragics Mountain to Mountain Run.
Unfortunately, the extreme weather conditions currently impacting southern NSW, which is due to host the majority of our course, and the current flood warnings and evacuation alerts in these areas have beaten us. It would be unlikely that we would be able to ride much, if any, dirt roads and even some tar roads will be impassable.
Heading the advice of authorities, the safety of all participants and crew on the ride must be foremost in our planning.
Of course, we also want to be able to enjoy a ride befitting our mighty Ténéré and Super Ténéré machines. So rather than staging a 5 day road ride, we have decided to postpone for 6 months to give everyone time to re-arrange time off work and other commitments.
Those booked in at Goldfields, Bathurst have NOT been charged their accommodation and we have been assured your credit card won’t be charged.
We have cancelled the Big Trout at Oberon. Any who may have already paid will need to contact the motel direct to arrange a credit.
Riverglades Caravan Park at Tumut have cancelled all bookings.
The Bridge Motel in Bateman’s Bay has also cancelled all bookings for Ténéré Tragics.
The Station Resort will transfer your bookings to the new date.
If you have made bookings elsewhere, please make sure to cancel them.
So, here is the new date for the 2012 Ténéré Tragics Mountain to Mountain Run:
Start: Goldfields, Bathurst Sunday October 14.
End: The Station Resort, Jindabyne Friday October 19.At this stage the days in between will be the same daily schedule as March.
We are really disappointed about having to postpone but we feel this is the best decision to make.
We hope to see you all in October and we’ll be in touch soon with more details.
Thank you for your understanding.
With thanks and best regards,
Clubby & Tania
