micknmeld wrote:Just to put things into perspective, California alone makes up for 47% of Suzuki’s totals sales and Australia just manages to come in at 4%. So I would be inclined to think Yamaha would be experiencing a similar sale rate.Thats an amazing stat regarding California  Not surprising Australia as with Cummins we are about 3% of the market

really, who give a rats right testical what the MX crazy Seppo’s think…..
if you were anywhere in europe, or the rest of the world for that matter, you might have been just as hard pressed to find a Jap dealer.
when are people gonna stop giving a shit what the USA thinks, those fools are still using imperial measurement
Yeah they can’t / won’t get with the metric system  and yes Europe your right off course. But the only enduro bikes I saw in the part of the states I was at were WRs no CRFs, no DR’s nothing  Every other bike basically was a Harley.
As for who cares what the sepo’s think, well actually Japan does because the US emission laws pretty well killed the Japanese two stroke
which I guess shows how many they sell there. Sux as it ruined it for the rest of the worldTB
white rocket wrote:think you will find that australia and newzealand are the main market place for these bikes not california think they buy the yz s ?also 7.2 litre tank and 5 speed box reckon 6 speed with a 11 litre tank would be betterSure Rocket whatever state you want its an example mate, when in the US I didnt see a KTM, or could I find a dealer  in Indiana state. But I saw a lot of WRs and yes YZs.
If you honestly think the main market for WRs is New Zealand and Austraila well I dont know what to say maybe the below will help
Some quick roughish facts I just got from a solid industry source we shall say

The US sell around 1.5 million dirt bikes a year remember they have a population of over 250 million thats less then 3/4 of a percent
KTM Australia sell between 8 to 10 thousand per year total dirt and black top
Trust me Yamaha take far more interest in WR sales in the US then here or NZ. That is clear by the release of the NEW WR there and not here !!!
I will see what I can dig up if I get time as I am now interested in the numbers myself

Thats bloody unreal Chris

Ollie wrote:white rocket wrote:think they would be cheaper here than the states our dollars worth more hay oh well thats life geting ripped ofNah Rocket Yamaha Aust still have to put ADR crap on it so that will be a bit.
Do you also think the fact that more will be sold in the state of California than all of Australia have anything to do with it (and they have another 49 odd states  )
ADR wont make up the difference, they should be cheaper yes I agree but

When in the US lately I went to heaps of bike shops and checked prices first hand. I can tell you for the most part shops like Mud and Tar size up to Sutto’s size are priced on whole within a few dollars of us. Somethings here like tyres are cheaper or dearer then us. Its the big players like Giant, BTO, ATV etc that are heaps cheaper and that is purely bulk buying power. I have been told BTO sell more neck braces from their one super store in six months then the whole of Australia had bought in 3 years!
If Yamaha for example had one importer for the whole of the South Pacific like Cummins do well that would cut out a few middle men that have a slice of the pie to pay their way. Food for thought

Nick from Tekniks told me, he was the one and he was right again, I rang him and said I heard and was told and he kept saying it’s injected
Seems he was in the know, there was another person that told me but I better not mention his name  He also kept saying injected and he told me about the frame etc. As I said somewhere else here very interesting what goes on :laugh:Now who would buy a first model?
TB
The DR has received the full Teknik make over now. I am expecting Rudy to kick in here sooner or later with a few details of the spec and what was done. I have been really surprised by the out come of this project. It seems a really nice, capable, good looking bike. The suspension was a major part of the transformation it is much taller now has ground clearance a real make over. Thanks to Nick, Rudy and mostly Pauly (he did the work  ) to make it happen in the time frame.
